offgame: No way, Raven, I'm sticking with you! BTW, I was a tad surprised about Mayu licking Elairith. I mean, Nephilim (at least in Sakret) are feline by shape, they're not animals. ;) Besides, Mayu was raised in a Temple to be a songstress, so I don't think she'd be licking just anybody... ;) But it doesn't really matter! Moving on! (Just don't make her lick anybody again, okay? :smirk: )

Mayu watched horrified as Elairith jumped from the hole to Exile - the last place she wanted to go! But she had saved the girl from the apparently evil half-Vahnati, and couldn't just leave her now. But what about the Forest? she thought to herself. But when she thought more closely, she realized that she had already been in the Forest, and she had been as lonely there as in Sakret. Until Elairith had come...

Quickly she made up her mind and leaped after the girl.

Mayu slided a long way in the growing darkness, hearing an occasional scream from Elairith. Slowly her eyes adjusted to the lightlessness, and she saw everything in warmthpatterns.

Finally the sliding ended, and Mayu found Elairith lying on the floor. She was holding her ankle, and whining in pain.

For a moment Mayu stood there, dazzled, feeling helpless, but then the memories of the healing lessons came back to her mind, and she kneeled over Elairith.

And she sang a song of Recovery.

Elairith stopped whining, and searched Mayu with her eyes and hands. Mayu reached her own hand, and grabbed the girls.

They were alone in the darkness. Two girls who had no means to verbal communication together. Yet, they had tied a mutual bond of trust.

OOC: Meh...

IC:

I woke that morning to find some strange seed on my chest. I leaned forward, rising my back from the ground and looked around. To my suprise both of the Nephalim women had gone. Why, I wondered?
Bleh...I was too groggy right now to think straight. I walked back towards the forest for about half an hour, leaving behind the terrible wreck of a city.
I wandered through some underbrush and soon heard the sound of water falling into water. I stripped down and walked into the pool.
I swam there for some time. Diving and playing alone in the serene cool of the area. I wonder if I had been a water dragon in a past life? Perhaps I could find some mystic who could tell me about my past lives. I loved the water.

OOC: There's nothing wrong with licking random people....Not to my knowledge anyway...

IC: Qyrain was lead into the library, but not into Miles' study. He and the captain followed curiously as they were lead past it, into another smaller room, which Qyrain would have sworn looked like a closet. Miles suddenly stopped thoughtfully, then opened the door.

Miles: Do you have any jurisdiction in Formello?

Captain: I don'th think so, why-

Miles abruptly kicked him back, and yanked Qyrain into the room. When they stepped out, they were in the much more familiar library at Formello.

Qyrain: He's not going to be happy...

Miles: And we have far more important problems at the moment.

Qyrain: How true. Such as that damn horse....

Miles: It'll end up here. Trust me. And I'll tell you about the horse later.

Qyrain wasn't sure whether he wanted to hear it or not, all things considered.

Elairith felt around in the darkness, feeling only lifeless stone and the tangle of the strange girl about her. She was sore, but well. The fall had been broken by some kind of magic - like thick air. Elairith stood and reached up, her hands brushing on the solid mist like a blanket above them.
The girl stirred and shook her head, feeling about her in the pitch black.
Elairith moved onto the walls, it were as if they were in the bottom of a hole. The walls were of black stone, and rough, with a few footholes leading to the surface. Around, around, around... Elairith was by this time sure she had circumnavigated the area completely. Dropping her hands and turning to the centre, she found she could see now with the soft light only barely making it down this far. The girl stood there, as if accusing her of getting them into this mess.
Sighing, Elairith leant back against the wall. It shifted beneath her slightly, as if getting comfortable... before caving away entirely. Shrieking, she tumbled backwards and flailed forwards with her hands at the same time. The girl reached forward in the nick of time and again, grabbed her hand as Elairith once again managed to fall into something where the other end was a complete unknown.

The next thing Elairith saw was the girl landing lightly on her feet in the middle of a richly furnished room, tapestries on the walls and a delicate musical instrument, like a harp, near the bay window. Curtains drawn. Elairith lay on the floor, in a heap. righting herself, she began to swear, but then realised the door to the room was open.... and beyond, more buildings.
Elairith: Well, would you look at that...

Walking forward as if drawn to the door, she realised that the room must be the front entrance to the building. When she reached the door and peered out, a gasp was pulled from her throat almost without her noticing. The girl followed, as if in as much wonder.

The structure was on a raised area of ground, on the outskirts of a city of some sort. The odd jumble of structures lay cramped in a bowl of black stone, the edges steepening into walls and then a huge domed roof, with thin chains holding walkways close to the ceiling. Looking to the left and the right of the portal, Elairith saw that this house was joined in a great line, all perching precariously on the rim of this bowl. If this wasn't startling enough, she noticed as her eyes followed round a great hole in the wall, not leading into a tunnel, but what appeared to be yet another huge cavern.

From the ceiling hung lanterns close to the roofline, but as the white light reached the walls it paled into a deep blue. Crystals, stalactites and a whole assortment of geological oddities adorned the rock, as well as a strange species of fungus and a white-leaved sort of vine. Water trickled from above continuously, gving the place the air of a great, inverted garden water feature. Or a fairy land.

Or hell, speculated Elairith, as her mind wandered back to the delicious paintings in the monastary. A cerulean hell.

Mayu followed Elairith deeper into the room. She was every bit as astouned as Elairith. Mayu had never seen a place like this - well, mainly because she had been raised in isolation inside the pure white walls of Sakret Temples.

Mayu stared up at the details of the lanterns. She saw the carving in them form stories. A man riding a strange-looking mammal, the man charging into a castle, and carrying a beautiful woman away with him.

Suddenly she felt that she had been left alone. When she lowered her look, she saw that Elairith had gone out of the room. Mayu started to worry, and soon the worry grew into panic.

"E-Elairith?" she whispered thinly, trying out her voice. "Elairith?!" Bit louder this time. "Elairith!?!"

The high pitched scream echoed from room to room, and soon Elairith came running to her.

She asked something that Mayu understood as some sort of "What is it?"

Mayu realized that her own eyes were covered in tears. Elairith came to her, and embraced her gently.

For the first time Mayu prayed that she would have understood the half-nephil girl, that she could speak to her.

Suddenly the manashard on her neck started to glow eerie blue light. It burned and froze her, but she was too shocked to do anything. Elairith pulled herself away from Mayu, staring at the Eclipse wide eyed.

The blue light of the shard slowly detached from it, moving in front of Mayu's face. When Mayu gasped in amazement, the light moved to her mouth, and faded.

"Are you alright?" Elairith asked quietly. It took Mayu few seconds to realize that she understood her.

So there! Now we can communicate properly, Raven. It's always good to carry a magical necklace. ;)

 • 2 weeks later...
God bless those imaginary amulets...

The girl suddenly seemed elated about something. She gasped for a while, stuttering, laughing... and then speaking.

Girl: I'm fine... I'm... wonderful!

Elairith: Behold, there is speech.

Girl: I, um... don't know what happened... but...

Elarith: But you're not complaining? What is your name?

Girl: My name is Mayu.

Elairith: My pleasure, Mayu. As you have demonstrated, I need not identify myself to you.

Mayu: Where are we?

Elairith: I have no idea. I'm assuming you are the same?

Mayu: Yes, I've not a clue either. I haven't been around much anyway...

Elairith: Well, apart from the monastary I grew up in, this is the only other place I've been apart from the forest, and a brief sighting of Corus.

Mayu: What shall we do, then?

Elairith: Um... shall we walk?

It seemed a good idea, so the pair tentatively walked out the front door and along the street, turning left into a vein of street that seemed to spiral into the center, lower part of the bowl. What would happen once they got there, however...

OOC: Lame, I know, but I'm not in the mood for interesting dialouge or letting this RPG die.

Elairith: "So, Mayu, where do you come from?"

Mayu: "I am the daughter of the Highcleric and the Highsongstress of the now lost nephil city of Sakret. It's ruins still lay somewhere here in Exile, but I have no idea where."

Elairith: "So... you were something big, then? As in some sort of princess?"

Mayu: "Oh, nothing like that! Sure, my parents ruled the city, but I was a prisoner in my own home. My whole life consisted only in praying and singing."

Elairith: "Sounds familiar..."

Mayu gave Elairith an encouraging smile, and took her by the hand. Elairith petted the fine white fur on the back of Mayu's hand.

Mayu: "I'm so glad I have someone to talk to now..."

Elairith: "Me too! Say, how is this possible? I mean, obviously your amulet did it, but how?"

Mayu took out the blue sun-shaped shard from her bosom.

Mayu: "This is a manashard called "Eclipse", and it is the reason why the entire Sakret was destroyed by the Vahnati."

Elairith: "So that's why you were so scared of my companion above there! But what do the Vahnati want from that little piece of crystal?"

Mayu: "This is said to be one of the shards of the broken great Manacrystal of the Vahnati. It was the source of their lost might, and they cannot get it back before the Manacrystal is rebuild again. I reckon this is one of the last pieces they need."

Elairith: "This means we're in grave danger down here. We must avoid the Vahnati in all cost! But don't you worry, dear. I'm here with you!"

Mayu: "Thank you..."

Qyain sat down, Miles taking a seat across from him. They were in a deserted part of the immense library, not surprising in these days. People were far too concerned with other matters, assuming they were alive. Which was somewhat of a broad assumption these days. Ah well.

Miles: Just how much do you know about what the hell is going on, and more to the point, how do you know?

Qyrain: Well, I ran into a lone Vahnati on the surface, just outside Corus,

Miles: Isn't it in ruins?

Qyrain: Yes, but I didn't know that at the time. Anyway, I was greeted by a fireball, and a few metres away, an area of building seemed to suddenly cease to exist.

Miles: Exactly. We've been having areas of nullification appear within the proximity of magic for a few weeks now, without explanation. And it doesn't seem to matter who's magic either, so it's not likely to be some kind of attack.

Qyrain: It isn't.

Miles: How do you know?

Qyrain related the story of his existance, along with his earlier conclusions, to the stunned Miles. The retelling took quite a long time. Afterwards, Miles leant back in his chair, shaking his head.

Sometime during the tale, a servant had crept in and lit the rather large fireplace. Qyrain took further note of his surroundings.

What he'd earlier perceived as a deserted corner turned out to be a private room lined with shelves. They say in comfortable armchairs, and the room was richly decorated. Miles's private study. An area few got to see of the vaunted mage. Qyrain looked back to Miles, who stilled seemed to be trying to absorb it all, and smiled softly.

The city was old, and these parts of it rather unkempt. Maya was glancing around nervously an awful lot - but then again, Elairith didn't blame her. Some of the creatures passing them didn't look very friendly, but a lot of them were nephilim, like herself and Maya.

Suddenly, Elairith saw a sign she recognised. It said food on it, and it reminded her that she hadn't eaten for a number of days. Led by her nose, Elairith peeled away from the stream of people and walked into the tavern. Maya followed.

The food looked horrible, but tasted excellent. Whether or not that was just because she was hungry, or had lived off church food her whole life, she didn't know. She didn't care.

Not bothering to keep an eye out for her companion, Elairith bought food, said grace, and ate. She was finished in two minutes. Maya, looking slightly amused, picked at a bread roll.

At last, Miles rose from his chair, motioning for Qyrain to do the same. He followed Miles as the elderly mage lead him outside the study, out of the library even.

Miles: Allow me to show you the state we live in now. You can see where buildings have been damaged directly by magic, or by nullification, or simply torn down. We're a magic dependant nation, and this inability to use it without the fear of its consquences is not making life easy.

Qyrain walked silently, absorbed in the city. He had attacked these people, torn their lives apart. He was the cause for their forlon visages. Miles suddenly stopped, and lead Qyrain in a different direction. They walked into a small tavern, one crowded with people. They ordered a meal, and cast around.

The place was packed, both tables and standing room almost completely taken. There were two spare seats at one table, avoided because the occupants were nephilim. Not being prejudiced himself, Qyrain gestured. Miles nodded, and they approached the table.

Qyrain: Mind if we sit here?

One of the nephilim, a female, was too busy eating to really care, the other merely shrugged. Qyrain and Miles sat down, and waited for their meal to arrive, Qyrain still glancing at those around him, as if he were afraid someone would recognise him for who he was.

Elairith finished her meal and was annoyed to see she couldn't rise to order another. Stealing half of Mayu's bread role, she ate that, staring menacingly at the person seated beside her. He seemed unsettled by this, and after a while, turned and looked directly at her. Had Elairith not been raised under graphic statues of the crucifixion, she would have flinched and looked away. As it was, she held his gaze, and found herself leaning forward until she could actually see into his eyes. There didn't seem to be anything inside this person....
Suddenly realising the social error she had made, she apologised and turned, staring straight ahead. Mayu was looking at her strangely, and again, she didn't blame her.

Man: What did you see?

Elairith started, scared that he knew about the void of space in his head. Acknowledgement meant it was real... she turned back to answer, but found that the other man was busy talking to him.

Elairith: Excuse me?

The man turned back, confused as to the interruption of speech by a third, uninvolved party.

Man: I said, "What did you say?"

Elairith: Oh, sorry...

Two misdemeanors in the space of a minute, Elairith found herself trapped at the table and turning bright red. Mayu suppressed a laugh into her breadroll, and averted her eyes from Elairith's lethal gaze.

Qyrain turned back to the woman, who appeared somewhat shamefaced. She wouldn't meet Qyrain's eyes.

Qyrain: It's okay. Just tell me what you saw.

Elairith: Who are you?

Qyrain: I'm not from around here, if that's what you mean.

Elairith: That's obvious.

Qyrain: Then why did you ask? That's as much as I can explain. Listen in though, if you want.

Elairith: But who are you?

Qyrain: Alright. My name is Qyrain Alethyne.

Unfortuantely, someone heard him. Immediately, the tavern was a polarised rabble, wielding large weapons. Miles swore at him, as the crowd clamoured for blood. Miles waved his hand, and they disappeared, reappearing in the private study. Unfortunately, Elairith and the other one were with them too. Miles swore. Again. Then it was Qyrain's turn to swear. The horse was there too.

Elairith stared at Mayu, and then Qyrain, and then the horse. Her hands went to the rosary beads, and she retreated into the corner to clear her head as Mayu became aquainted with/headbutted by the horse, and Qyrain was verbally beaten to a pulp from the other man. He must be important... or infamous.

"Holy Mary, Mother of Grace, the lord is with you, blessed are you and blessed is the fruit of your womb..."

Suddenly realising where she was, and what she was doing, she shoved the beads back in her pocket, relieved to see no one saw. Then, she realised that she had been seen... Qyrain was ignoring his friend and staring at her. Running out of ways to hide her shame, Elairith pulled her hood up over her head and put her face into her knees, waiting for everything to dissapear, or for her to die. Whichever came first.
