why stargate sg-1 is the best sci-fi show around

Well, I don't know how much more it is grounded in reality than Star Trek... but personally, I've never liked Star Trek. I simply can't.

Stargate SG-1 is a freaking awesome show though. I've yet to see an episode I didn't like, although some are better than others. I've not seen it in quite some time, but I used to like to catch it when FOX aired reruns late on Sunday nights. Only sci-fi TV series I could stomach other than X-Files (and even that fell apart), although I've not watched many of the newer series.

It's pity that the next series number 7 will be the last, I don't want to spoil it on anyone so:
The seventh and last series sees the return of Daniel Jackson, after his battle with the Dark Ancient Anubis, Daniel was returned to the mortal universe with no memory of his past.

He is found on an primative but inhabited world by SG1, who return him home to Earth. After this they go in search on an ancient Atlantean city on Earth with a cache of advanced weapons that will help them finally defeat the Goa'uld.

The seriens will end with the release of the second Stargate movie which will finish the series, however there are plans to create a spin off show called Star Gate: Atlantis and will feature many of the SG1 characters as special guests
Hope that's been informative

SG-1 was an obsession of mine for the first three seasons. Lately, though, it's gotten dull, most episodes spent debating and discussing, like a sci-fi version of C-Span. I watch if an episode looks like it's going to be good, and if it has the Goa'uld in it, just because I want to know how it ends.

Sci-fi C-Span...::shudders:: Now, Hardball would be awesome with a sci-fi theme. Chris Matthews is a political analyst/smuggler in the 23rd century and stumbles upon an intergalactic conspiracy revolving around a Hitler-ish dictator controlling all media. I'd pay to see that.

I liked the movie more than the show, but their both good. The show has better character and the movie had the better effect. I espicially like the gods on the show; they have Greek, Egyption, Norse, and even Native American.

stargate sg-1 is the best sci-fi show around because it is more intellegent than a lot of other shows, its really funny, its got history(a few thousand years worth), more compelling than star trek(more better story arcs), grounded more in reality!
Please, could you use proper English and punctuation? It'd make your posts look much cleaner, and make them much more readable. That "more better story arcs" line is especially annoying...

Anyway, I'd like to dispute your opinion that Stargate SG-1 is the best Sci-Fi show currently running. While Stargate is a very interesting and compelling series, having made me a casual fan, I find it less interesting than other shows out there. It's very complex, which makes each episode difficult to watch on it's own.

The acting in Stargate is good, but I'd really like to see the actors act a little more involved in the plot, as opposed to their normal aloofness. They seem somehow detached, and that detracts from the storyline a little.

Don't get me wrong, Stargate SG-1 is a great series. It's innovative, interesting and full of fresh ideas. However I'd rather watch Enterprise...

Stargate SG1 is a good sci-fi should, but I wouldn't call it the best. Yes it has humour and history but personally I would dispute the compelling storylines. Most of the shows I've seen a stand-alone and only require marginal propping from another episode and while interesting, are sometimes... predictable. That's just y opinion though so don't take offence and flame me for it. Personally I'd prefer a nice bout with Farscape.

I love Stargate SG-1!!! I find it very interesting and cool to watch. The plot is well thought out and so are the character developments. I like this show better than Star Trek or Star Trek Voyager. Every episode is breath taking till the very end.

yay Stargate is cool.

I like Egyptian history.. but it was so typical that Daniel came back to life and Jonnas Quinn got kicked out. ><
You went and spoiled it for me! I live in England ya know.

And I don't have sky, or cable, so I'm stuck with whatever Sci-fi ch4 and the Beeb decide to show, and they both treat it like s**t. It gets bounced around the schedules like a tennis ball, bleh...

But I just stay up late and wath series two re-runs at 3:00am. Along with Enterprise repeats, Andromeda (Tyr and Harper ^_^) oh, and Monkey.

I like all Sci-fi, but I really like the way that Stargate SG-1 brings in all the Mythology, and brings that interesting twist to things. hmmm... when ya think about it, If you went back in time to Ancient Egypt, all you'd have to do was show them a gun and you'd be a god to them (or a wizard at least...) *shrug*

*runs off with Teal'cs' medallion* :D
