Legacy Of Kain: Defiance

I am a big fan of the Legacy of Kain Series and I am really looking forward to Defiance. The coolest thing is that you get to play as both Raziel and Kain.

The story from what I know is that it picks off right after Soul Reaver 2 and the setting is in Blood Omen 1(Which explains Vorador's appearance). Its goona be great to see the original Nosgoth before it was corrupted in 3D. Still Kain and Raziel will have odds against each other, but will realize that there is a greater threat.

The gameplay and combat system is great too. Both characters will still have their abilites from SR2 and BO2 and they will have advanced telekinetic attacks(which will be regulated by a meter). The battle system sort of resembles the combat system of Devil May Cry but I like that.

One problem is that Raziel and Kain can't pick up items anymore but they keep the different incarnations of the Soul Reaver. (Kain with the blade, Raziel with the wraith blade).

Another cool thing is that Kain will be able to feed by biting and that and that there will be bonuses for voluntary exploration.

Now Raziel needs to possess the bodies of his defeated enemies in order to get into the Material Plane and that their will be challenges in the Spectral Plane.

That is all I know about Defiance and please post your comments on the game and any info you may know that I havent posted already.

::remembers video trailer available at official website, forcing drool:: Uh... give me a minute ::continuously wipes drool:: There, ahem, yes, I have seen the mentioned game, AND I CAN'T WAIT! I remember how I first got into the legacy of kain series: a simple DC rental (Soul Reaver 1), but the story was so epic, rivaling that of popular books, and the gameplay was pretty out-of-the-ordinary for me (before SR, I've never killed badguys by any means besides beating them down :)). It was so clever, as there was always a way to kill your enemies: you just had to find it.

Question about your comment:
but why would Raziel and Kain be at odds with each other? Kain saved Raziel from an infinite loop at the end of SR2.
That really bites about the weapons, since they were more fun to use than the Reaver, but you could pick up anything in BO2 after you got it, so I could see where they are coming from. Maybe they are just referring for Kain? It might be possible that Raziel will still be able to pick up items since his reaver is ethereal. I sure hope so...

One thing that really ticked me off was how people reviewed Blood Omen 2, always saying it happened before SR1 and SR2, which showed that the reviewer was not in a position to actually review the game. Anyway, to stay on track, on Eidos' official website, there's a mailing list you can sign up for, as well as a trailer (at least I think there is).

Azure Wolf, There is a reason why Kain and Raziel are still at odds with each other.

How about the fact that Kain threw Raziel into The Lake Of The Dead making him suffer eternally until he was saved by The Elder God.

And by saving Raziel from the infinite time loop he caused a distortion in time(When Kain yelled out "The Hlyden!")

And Blood Omen 2 did happen before Soul Reaver 1 and 2(story-wise that is).

::cracks knuckles:: Alright, I always love talking about the series. These are all spoilers if you haven't played the video games. Anyway, let's do this thing. :)
How about the fact that Kain threw Raziel into The Lake Of The Dead making him suffer eternally until he was saved by The Elder God.
Raziel's bright enough to know that this event needed to occur for Kain's brilliant plan. Kain knew the events of the future, and while Raziel did not know that when he was thrown into the abyss, he did find out about it at the end of SR1. Kain actually had care and concern for Raziel, but he barely shows it until the end of SR2. Continuously, Kain taunts at Raziel's ideas of free will, forcing Raziel to question his own actions over and over.

In the end of SR2, you learn that EVERYTHING was already scripted, and that Raziel had done every action that he, as a pawn, was meant to do-except to kill Kain at the instant of that distortion (with the two reavers, when Kain says, "If you truly believe in free will, prove it now," handing Raziel the reaver). Two reavers, creating a paradox, allowed history to change, but not without the help of Raziel's free will, which he struggled to choose. That is the reason why you only see Morpheus, the seer of time, scared once, which is right after this event.
And by saving Raziel from the infinite time loop he caused a distortion in time(When Kain yelled out "The Hlyden!")

And Blood Omen 2 did happen before Soul Reaver 1 and 2(story-wise that is).
Yeah, the reason why Kain yells, "The Hilden!" at the end of SR2 is because of Kain's new memories. BO2 refers to one of Kain's newly shuffled memories, where he loses the Soul Reaver to a Hilden Knight disguised as a human(which never happened originally). He urges Raziel, "Yanos must not be resurrected!" You do not hear his warning, and we see what becomes of Yanos because of his revival (Hilden's source of power), and we have yet to see what else becomes of him (when he falls into the Hilden's dimension).

So, BO2's events happen in the past, but they are a direct result of Kain stopping the loop in SR2. They are Kain's memories, but only because Kain and Raziel finally made an unscripted event log.

Well, I've played the entire series and beat it. The series itself is INCREDIBLE, and from what I've read up on, it seems that Legacy of Kain: Defiance is going to answer any questions, any plot holes in the story. Kain's new look is awesome. But Raziel's look will always be cooler. I'm definately going to be purchasing this game after its cut down in price cause I like buying my games late and cheap. ;) Saves me money and we all go home happy.

I am, obviously, a huge fan of the Legacy of Kain series, Kain in general, once again that's pretty obvious. While the plot confuses the hell out of me, the overall story and voice acting in all of the games are incredible. I even loved the somewhat flawed Blood Omen 2, even though they screwed up in a lot of different areas of the game. The lip synching towards the end is the most apparent, not to mention the constant looping of background noises occasionally which forces you to reload your saved data to stop it.

Anyway, I finished off Soul Reaver 2 recently, all though I liked playing as Kain more, it was still pretty cool. It was a bit too short, and wasn't very challenging, much like Blood Omen 2, but the voice acting and plot make it all worth it.

I am looking forward to Legacy of Kain: Defiance, however I have heard some bad things all ready. Raziel, nor Kain will be able to pick up or use weapons. That makes sense for Kain since he will be wielding the Blood Reaver, the Soul Reaver before it consumes Raziel's soul. But it makes no sense for Raziel since he usually cannot use the Wraith Blade all the time. It'll probably still be awesome, but I for one love to get weapons and impale enemies upon them or behead them. But at least players will be allowed to play as both Kain, and Raziel in a single game. Not to mention I hear they will not tone down Kain's abilities or strength now that he is playable in his evolved form. I think this game will be awesome, and from the looks of it, it seems to be coming along nicely.

Supposedly, the game will be coming out November 12th.

New Info!

Its about the first chapter of Defiance!

It starts with Raziel trying to get out of the Spectral Plane and one part of the level is inside the Elder God.

As for Kain, he is 500 years apart from Raziel, fighting off waves of soldiers in a large castle.

Ill post more info when I find it.

More New Info!

The Elder God, Janos, and Vorador will be in Defiance.

Mobeius' schemes are not over yet.

There will be 5 boss battles and 8 sub-bosses, including Janos.

The camera will be more dramatic and you can choose to see in first person.

And Raziel's shift into the spectral plane will be more gruesome looking.
