XeEmO
I'm very sorry if this is spam, but I have a quick question. I have some money to spend on some DVDs, and I would like to get into Gundam, but I don't know what series to get. What series came first? Is there a specific series I should watch before any other? I assume that the series are connected in some way.
Domon
Actually, the only real series that is connected to each other is the Universal Century time line. That's The original Mobile Suit Gundam, 0080 War in the Pocket, 0083 Stardust Memory, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Formula 91 Gundam which is a movie production, and Victory Gundam. The rest are of Alternate Universes. Really if you want my opinion I'd say get the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy. Its three boxes that have a holographic wrapping on it. I have the movies on VHS O_o.

Domon
Blaz I hate to sound rude or anything but you double posted. Please use the edit button at the bottom of your posts if you forgot to add anything. And there isn't a series called 0087, there are 0080 and 0083. Flamme Immorale
I suggest you start with one of the AU series. They seem to do much better with newbits to Gundam. Plus, the story is complete in less than several hundered episodes and many movies. Hm... It all really depends on what your looking for; a one night stand or a long-term commitment through thick and thin? If you have the cash, import Gundam SEED. It's much more believable in the big picture than even the earlier UC Gundam series. It still has all the action-packed fight scenes everyone loves, but mobile suits are more practical. Plus the characters and story are much more nicely done than any AU series and quite a few UC. If you aren't a big fan of subtitles nor fluent in Japanese, just stick with Wing. Hell, as long as it's been on DVD over here, the prices should have dropped and you can probably get it for rather cheap.

boothten
I agrre with Domon. Get the movie Trilogy. I'd also get Mobile Suit Gundam (the original one) or the 008th MS Team. I've heard about Gundam SeeD, but have never seen it. I've heard it's good. I really want to get any DVD's of it.
Morinaka
i've watched the gundam seed fansubs upto episode 39 (there's 52 total) and think its great. The story doesn't get really good until about episode 14-15 but i'd still recommend it. Gundam Wing is good as well, can't say i've watched any of the others, i've heard that 0083 is a great one though.

Guest Altron Gundam
Before you get into Alternate U. gundam series, just try to go with the base series' one by one so you can get a feel of what the base stories are like. Then after you get done with that, 0083 etc, go with stuff like Gundam X...steer clear of Wing..--;
Zen
I suggsest that you start of with one of the classics like 0080th MS Team or 0083 Stardust Memories. They are the best and best looking Gundams i've seen. Its cool in 0080th how in one scene, a Gouf stabs a downed GM and oil splirts out like blood on the Gouf's head. Guest Altron Gundam
After you finish with the 00's, take a look at Char's Counterattack. That thing is one of the gems of all Gundam. RX-93 Nu Gundam and the Sazabi steal the show. Fin Funnels were really an ingenious creation to add.
Fake-Zen
I will go ahead and tell you to get the as many as the origanl Mobile suit Gundam's as you can or just get the movies (whatever floats your boat) after that you can try out the 0080s and so forth but Z will be out on dvd soon so i suggest you wait and get that. And you have to Char's Counterattack, one of the best gundam movies ever made. You dont need to see Z to understand to much of it, Just Original series.
