XeEmO Posted July 13, 2003 Share Posted July 13, 2003 The Pete & Pete thread was kind of heading in this direction so I decided to make a thread about it. Do you remember old nick shows? Do you still watch them? What's your favorite(s) (and why)? One reason I decided to post this is because Salute Your Shorts is going to be on Nick Gas in a half an hour. That was one of my favorite shows back when it was on. But my all time favorite show growing up was Rugrats. I hate that show now, but I think I watched it from when I was around 5years old to about 10years old. It was just all around entertaining, and no one told me to turn it off. Gilligan's Island (Nick At Nite) The Adventures Of Shirley Holmes (really didn't like this show) Rugrats (didn't like this cartoon either) Clarissa Explains It All (absolutely HATED IT. [i]And I still hate it[/i]. Man... I'll walk backwards the rest of my life if I ever see something of it AGAIN (It's still on Nickelodeon if you haven't noticed)) There's more, I can't remember their names though. Back then All That was actually funny. I loved the Kenan and Kel show. Are you afraid of the Dark was always great. I watched that show like everyday. I liked Doug cause it was Laid Back. I loved the Ol' School SNICK The show that Summer Sanders hosted was nice. I forgot the name of it. I liked all of the Ol' nick game shows. Pete N' Pete was strange I didn't like it too much. That one show where that one girl could turn into liquid was nice. And Allen Strange was a good show and I also like it cuz my name is Allen too. I always loved Muppet Babies, but that didn't even originate on Nick. It moved there much later. Ren and Stimpy (TNN has new ones know, but they're homosexual for some odd reason), Rocco's Modern Life, Salute Your Shorts and so on are all great. I must admit I do like Hey Arnold. Brasil Posted July 15, 2003 Share Posted July 15, 2003 Oh wow...back when I would watch Nickelodeon... I watched...Rugrats, Doug, Rocko, All That...my memory is so hazy right now. But I remember I loved Rocko because of the sheer insanity of the show. I loved the juxtaposition of the title against the actual methodology of the show. It was called Rocko's Modern Life but it really featured archaic, almost...Dark Ages sensibilities. The general oppressive neurosis of the characters and the crushing of new age ideals represented by Rocko's hopes and dreams really make me think back to a time when society was stuck in a stagnation of imbecilic thought and primitive provincial beliefs. Shinmaru Posted July 16, 2003 Share Posted July 16, 2003 I usually watched Nick just to catch their animated shows which were (mostly) brilliant. Rocko's Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Ahhhh!!! Real Monsters!; great stuff, that was. I always loved Salute Your Shorts, too. I'm glad Noggin's started showing that. But I'm finding that I'm not as fond of Nick Arcade as I used to be. I think that it's because I know I could go on that show and beat any of those teams that they had by myself (add that to the fact that the contestants had horrible taste in video games lol). Because that name sounds familiar and I can't seem to remember the name of the camping show. Are You Afraid of the Dark, yah that used to freak me out. I also loved the old school All that and Snick. Dang...those turned BAD. Now they suck. I also loved Ahh! Real Monsters - i liked Oblina. And Ickis...and I liked Angry Beavers..Dagget was teh BEST..I named my rifle after him..haha cuz it sounds like "Dang it".. I didn't really like Salute your shorts or Hey Dude, just beacuse they were older then I was at the time. I was around..I dunno, 4 or 5, and I liked the cartoons better then the real life. The only real life one that I liked was "What Would You Do" and Double Dare. I liked What Would You Do better then Double Dare. OH! The Hidden Temples of that..whatever...I cant remember the name! WHere they went inside the cave and they had to do obstacles...oh yeah and that other show...GUTS!! yes!! That's it!! It was a pretty good show and, for some reason, I crack up when Olmec mentions The Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Are You Afraid of the Dark was a cool show too, but I can't remember the name of that episode unfortunately. I'll go look it up somewhere. Old school All That was just hilarious. Kenan, Kel, and Josh will forever go down as the best cast members ever. EDIT: I researched it and the episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark in question is called "The Tale of the Thirteenth Floor." The original was great, and it was changed into this awful mess... I don't even know if I'd call it music. Spunky was just odd. I'll never forget the episode where he kept trying to have sex with the mop. I'm still surprised that Nick showed that, as it was really obvious and a rather old episode. Sadly they show old and new ones but the old ones are there. Anyone remember the show where they kids could teleport wherever they wanted to go? It was a real show and I remember loving it.
