Evangelion: Death and Rebirth

I recently purchased the Neon Genesis Evangelion movie on DVD titled "Death and rebirth" And I thoguht it was the most amazing anime experience ever!

It was very confusing, as are the few tapes I hired aout a while ago. It jumps forward in time, and then back in time, back in time some more. It seems to have no linear timeline and sub plots and paradoxes in the timeline are well written and timed.
I had seen a few scenes in the series tape i hired out, which confused me although I get the idea that it is basically an Armageddon storyline.

It is easy to get attached to the characters of NGE as they are so well written with their characteristics and personality. As you can tell by the name I chose for OB, I like Shinji. Shinji is very shy, and doesn't want to intrude on people or be a nuisance, when he isn't. Sometimes I feel like Shinji, and I can relate in some way, which makes the story even more interesting.
It was so sad too see Kaworu was the last angel. Shinji's best friend, and you couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy, he's been through so much!
If i could have changed something about EVA, i would have either developed a relationship over time beteeen Shinji and Asuka, or even Kaworu for a longer period of time (I would have introduced kaworu into the series a bit sooner) It would have been nice to have a relationship.friendship grow for Shinji.

I was a bit dissapointed witht the hospital scene in the beginning of the "Rebirth" movie, It was quite funny though. Did Shinji really have to do that? if he did, then did we need to see? If you don't know what i'm talking about, please hire the tape, you'll see. I can't say it here, I don't think.

Anyway, death and rebirth was a fanytastic movie, full of some wiccked EVA action
Like the Eva unit 01 eating the Angel and breaking free fo the Armour restraints.

and the scene where the final adversary to NERV was a fellow man and an army of men. I heard something about 666. It's got Christian themes! my favorite anime series has Christian themes!
I am now savign for the "End of evangelion DVD" Which, by the special preview on the DVD, looks very good.

Well... EoE is basically the finisher for what they started in DaR. And yes, I think Shinji was
an emotional wreck at that point so I guess it fit in. He liked Asuka, but he couldn't tell her, he just murdered his best friend, he is afraid of Misato and Rei, and the only one he felt comfortable with, Asuka, is now in the hospital. In the state of mental turmoil his love for Asuka(and his hormones) made him masturbate while looking at Asuka's naked body.
And once you get to EoE, get ready to have your brains blown out and all your nerves fused  one wicked movie I tell you...

Well, GAINAX did do a very good job of going through the whole series, but I think Death and Rebirth would only be a treat to hard-core Evangelion fans. I love it, of course, but a lot of people who just like Evangelion didn't think it was that great.

^^ I'm a little torn with these movies. I enjoyed the first part of DaR, because it reviewed the series for you and then the second part becuase it acctually tells you what happens at 3rd impact and then also the first part of EoE, becuase it finishes the battle, but I don't particularly care for the second half only becuase some of it drags on a little bit. All in all, though, I thought it was a great way to end the series. Ending it with another question and all...

AMEN! That's exactly what I would do. I am a BIG HUGE Asuka fan, and I thought that her and Shinji were perfect for one another. They needed each other to balance their personalities...

^_^ Well that explains your name, o queen. But I still think that Shinji and Rei is better.. Rei seems so alone most of the time.. She just needs SOMEONE.. And there's really nobody else.. That I think would work well. (I just like Rei for some reason and want to see her happy..)

No. I would not change a thing about the Eva series. The relationship was developed off screan between Shinji and Asuka. I would feel that it would ruin the series to build up the characters into something they are not ment to be =/

Rei and Shinji? I just don't like that. Of course, I agree that Rei does need someone, but I don't think it should be Shinji. Of course, they did need each other's friendship. It was too bad that Shinji was so scared of her.

What I think is so awesome is that they weren't a "team." They didn't get along all that great and they didn't have all the cheesy lines about teamwork and getting along. It was very true to life. :)

In the Evangelion manga, there seems to be more of a relationship building between Rei and Shinji instead of Shinji and Asuka... but then again, Shinji isn't freaked by Rei just yet (
he didn't find out about the clone part
) so there might be a bit more relationship building between Shinji and Asuka later on.

Actually, I thought Shinji was developing a relationship with both Rei and Asuka in the manga. He's such a player, lol.

Anyways, in Death and Rebirth, there's scene with Asuka and Shinji in a hospital room...and uh...I think you figure it out if you watch it.

That's the scene I feel the most uncomfortable about.

And that's not a relationship, that's just hormones :p

It would have been great for Shinji to have at least have one friendship. Kaworu perhaps, even better if He had a loving relationship with either Rei or Asuka. He's just such an emotional wreck at the end of Evangelion it's so sad.

Oh yeah, how could I forget about Kaworu/Shinji? They looked so good together. Heh, I feel sorry for Shinji. He had to kill TWO of his friends. I liked the part when Shinji killed Toji because I Never saw that episode. No, I'm not that much of a sadist.

Ugh. I really did not like Death and Rebirth, honestly. Maybe it was because it was in Japanese and they were talking so fast and such, but I think it had more to do with the fact that they kept going back on different issues in the series, and rather than clearing them up, they just made them much more confusing. In most of the movie, they simply reshowed parts rather than make new ones, so part of that makes me want to say that the producers were really lazy up near the end of Evangelion as a whole. I like the show a lot, don't get me wrong, but I guess I'm not "hardcore" enough. *shrug* Though summarizing those last two episodes was pretty intense. o.o'

I personally prefer End of Evangelion, for the simple reason that they just show more new scenes and finally end the series. Once you watch that,
I think you will be satisfied in the relationship between Shinji and Asuka, which shows that Shinji is actually in love with her, if I remember correctly.
The story in EoE makes a lot more sense, even though it is still confusing compared to the series itself, save the last two episodes. After you finish seeing it, I guaruntee that you will be much less confused than after DaR. The thing about EoE that I didn't like was how they had to re-show half of DaR, since it continued the story. Of course, that wasn't entirely End of Eva's fault; they should have put more emphasis in Death and Rebirth so that they didn't have to do that.

The hospital scene is so tragic to me. I think that what Shinji was doing was only human nature. You have to remember, he's only 14 afterall. How many naked women do you think he's ever seen in his lifetime? And I'm sure he's not a closet porn freak.

I like the manga because Shinji and Asuka seem much closer. I haven't read everyone of them, but I just noted this from reading some volumes. And since I'm a hopeless romantic, sometimes I imagine things are there that probably AREN'T.

I agree abouth the comment on the hospital scene, after all Shinji has been through a massive amount of mental trauma and he has to do....erm.....something to take his mind off it.....okay I think I just better shut up now.....

Anyway, I just bought End of Evangelion and am planning to watch it tonight, although I am not looking forward to it.....
