now i know that a lot of you arent going to college yet, but some of you are or are already, perhaps you others have given it some thought of what you would like to do too. well since its so important and interesting i was wondering what everyone else was interested in and why.

i will be going to college this fall and my major is fire/arson investigation along with criminal justice. i know personally i have always wanted to be a part of the action, probably due to loving james bond, and other action/espoinage movies. it evolved over the years from a police officer, to FBI, and CIA (or any other lettered agency:) ) but who knows what the future holds for me.

regardless, i was curious about everyone else. :toothy:

I believe to get into the FBI you need two years of college. From what I remember, anything you really want. Then you can apply and see if you make it, eventually.

I'm majoring in interactive media, whatever that means.. Basically video production, audio production, web design, computer graphics, etc. I don't feel I'm great at any of these, but my favorite is definitely web design. I hope to get to do that at some point.

I'm technically a Junior... although I've skipped quarters and still haven't gotten courses that really challenge me. Stupid core nonsense.

Guest Randleman
I will be attending college in the fall of 2004. I plan to be majoring in History, then attending more school and eventually becomeing a History Professor. The college I want to go to has a great History program and it has a teaching school. So I'm all good. :)

My last major was Biochemistry...I don't know what I was on when I signed up for it. But I dropped that and took up Computer Science major with a concentration in Networking. While I do just fine in it, code does not get me fired up, especially if I'm going to be doing it for a very long time. So I got out of that and now I'm in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. I'm liking it so far, especially with the journalism class that I'm taking now.

I would really like to work for Pixar or Dreamworks animation studios. I think that would be the coolest job ever. :whoops: Granted, I say that knowing nothing about the subject....heheh.

I don't know what direction I'll be going after high school. I'd like to take some etymology-related* courses; that would be fantastic. Latin and whatnot. *grins happily*

I would also like to take classes relating to the afore-mentioned "dream job," but if I took all artsy classes, I would probably die from sheer joy--or artists' block. ^_~

So, yes. Arts and computers, all 'round. (And words, hmm.)

I don't know where I'll be going to college, either.

UCLA is a college. -Shy

Heh. :toothy:

My major at Penn State University in the fall will be Spanish. I'm not sure what job I want, but possibly something like an interpreter or something.

Second semester, I want to take a Japanese class. I couldn't first semester because I scheduled late and all the elementary japanese classes were filled up. Oh well.

Wow, it is really great to hear what all of you want to be. It looks like we all have very good goals!

Starting this September I will be going to Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins where I live. I am going to get associate degrees (B average or higher)in Internet Specialist-Web Design, and Networking Specialist. Becuase of the High school I went to I was able to take 3 parts of my 7 quarters worth of work of Internet Specialist-Web Design and for Networking Specialist I already have 4 parts out of 7 quarters worth of work, I am not sure, but besides my core classes I think there are something around 15 parts in each one....so 4 and 3 doesn't give me much, but hey, I'll take it!

Love, Kaola

Holy crap...have any of you noticed our posts have only been minutes away from each other!?!? That is cool

My frosh year at Rutgers, I was a 3 week Comp Sci major. I was failing the Intro To Computer Science course and quickly realised that I most certainly suck at math and science, and Comp Sci would be the death of my academic career.

So, I dropped the Comp Sci and picked up my English major. I'm doing very well in that, going into my junior year, have impressed quite a few of my English professors (and made friends with many of them), and have a very good chance of getting into the Teaching Assistantship program for Grad School in 2 years. The T.A. program waives Grad School tuition provided I teach a few Comp 101 courses, which isn't hard.

The English major suits me quite well, as I find I have a knack for literature theory and such.

I'm going to teach (so my English degree is actually worth something lol), go for a Doctorate in post-modern lit, and write creative things all the while...I'm seeing myself more like a Phillip K. Dick, in that I write more short stories and novellas like Dick, and not full length novels like Michael Chrichton. My goal is to become a children's literature author, because that way I can get away with having fun and not get blasted by critics for childish themes.

Of course, I'd still populate my work with subtle sexual innuendo and double entendres, much like Shakespeare, because he's got the subtle stuff down.

I'd love to publish a few epic poems, because there aren't really enough epics these days. I long for a time where things like The Odyssey, Gilgamesh, Rape Of The Lock, Canterbury Tales are created on a regular basis. Epic novels are fine and all, but epic poetry is what it's all about for me.

I just finished my first year of college. I am currently a Chemical Biology major. That just means the study of Biology through a chemical approach, so I'm really just a Bio major. To give you an example of what that means, I've done HIV-1 research at UMDNJ, but I was dealing with reverse transcriptase, the chemical/enzyme that the HIV uses to break and rewrite RNA with.

What ticks me off about that research was that no one would listen to anything I would say. I was arguing that there should be a way to make the infected RNA piece do nothing. Now, believe it or not, they are saying that descendants of Bubonic Plague survivors may actually be resistant to HIV's reverse transcriptase because the RNA coding in the targetted region does nothing (introns), or at least it seems that way so far. That's what I was saying, but NO, of course since I didn't have some fancy title, I couldn't be right... Haha, but then again, that was a whole other direction I wanted to go.
i will be going to college this fall and my major is fire/arson investigation along with criminal justice. i know personally i have always wanted to be a part of the action, probably due to loving james bond, and other action/espoinage movies. it evolved over the years from a police officer, to FBI, and CIA (or any other lettered agency ) but who knows what the future holds for me.
I just have to say, that's so cool. I remember that I wanted to be a cop, always saying "hi" to every cop I saw, knowing that they were good people (or so I thought, I was like 5). Haha, are you going to be one of those forensics people, or one of those investigators that goes around hunting for clues figuring things out? Both are cool, but you have to hand it to those who go out and put their life on the line... Currently, I'm reading this sci-fi mystery story (Kiln People), and it just gives you an even greater respect for people who do that line of work.
I'm majoring in interactive media, whatever that means.. Haha, I'm just curious: I would never pursue a career in art because I have no taste (reactions to my tastes: what? That's SO ugly! Why didn't you get the other one?). Do you know how many great writers were originally aiming to become scientists, then dropped out of it in college and pursued writing? Haha, I'll look forward to your work. :)
Starting this September I will be going to Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins where I live. You'll have a lot of spare time to take other classes that aren't covered in your major?
My frosh year at Rutgers, I was a 3 week Comp Sci major.
Rutgers?! That's awesome! Are you going to the New Brunswick or Newark one? I don't go there myself, but you should have a flood of kids from my school going their as the class of 2006. My sis even goes there.

Anyway, I know how you feel. Fall semester, I had to take intro to comp sci, and the teachers and TA's were jerks. Every freshman was given a free laptop, running WinXP. So, what do they use to test and grade our programs? Why, an extremely old Unix computer system, of course! What other obvious choice is there? I had the programming stuff down, and it was fun, but you had to log into a unix server and check if your program worked there. Even if it did, though, there was still no guarantee that it would work on their Unix. And you get a zero for a grade if it doesn't. God only knows how I pulled a B in that class. Although I'm still ticked off at that grade, it makes you appreciate curves. :D

Those of you who have language courses are lucky: my school doesn't offer any languages. :(

I'll be starting at a little technical college in October. I'm doing a Dual Associate Degree track, meaning in two and a half years I'll have Associate Degrees in Network Management and Web Design.

Yes, that's good.

I'm doubling in biochemistry and english. I started out with no idea and sort of ended up taking a lot of classes that would fit the biochemistry major, so I'm going to finish that up :-P but I decided I wasn't really that interested in it, so I picked up the english major as well. I'm taking summer classes right now to catch up on the english major, actually ... hopefully it'll be worth it in the end!

You don't really need any extreme talent at normal art. I've met people who can draw and people who can't. What matters really is good layout skills and an eye for design and color. Something can be the coolest thing you ever saw, but if it doesn't fit what the client wanted or has an obscure layout that doesn't work... you're screwed. So basically, some of both heh.

Computer graphic designers aren't generally artists in that sense.

Well, I'm starting at University of Georgia in about a month and surprising I'm majoring in Genetics. I was thinking of pre-med, but then I changed my mind on being a doctor. I can't believe I'm going into a science field (YES I CAN! I am a science NUT!), but everyone always told me I needed to do art. Oh well...I guess Ryan can have all the fun doing that.

Officially, my major is still listed as Undecided.

Unofficially, however, I'm majoring in Mass Communications. Right now I'm taking the Intro classes, and I'm hoping to get into full-swing Spring Semester. I'm thinking about concentrating in TV/Radio Broadcasting, but I'm still not sure. People do tell me I have a voice for radio, though. My mom and grandparents keep telling me to get into Computer Science, but I have the math skills of a mentally challenged goldfish that mates like a rabbit and needs to fill out its tax forms without the aid of an accountant.

I'm currently attending a Community College, and I'm hoping to transfer to a 4-year state school after my Sophomore year.

In fact, the only math you seem to need is simple algebra. If you've got common sense, you can have a future in computer science. Why don't you take like one course of comp sci and see how it suits you?
I'm majoring in Genetics. I was thinking of pre-med, but then I changed my mind on being a doctor. Haha, in our school, there's just a running competition between who is (or needs to be) the smarter: a science or engineering major? I took up the challenge and took a few engineering courses. Haha, it requires a whole different kind of smarts! Yeah, any engineering majors around?

lol i have a long major name:

Im a Physical Science major with a Specialization in Chemistry and also majoring in Secondary Education.

Man this is seriously the longest credit course type major. Im barely able to make it in five years. Besides that i love chemistry and i want to become a teacher for about 10 years. During teaching i want to go into adminstration and have a masters in education. Eventually i want to get into college and after teaching for about 10 years i want to become a principal.

Well i got my life basically figured out. Tell me if you think its a long tedious plan.

Well, they want me to major in Computer Science, not me. I'm just not that interested in it. My heart belongs to entertaining people or helping entertainers look good.
