Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comes out tommorow(July 16th) the game is set 4000 years before the events of the movies. From what I have seen so far the game looks great and looks like it could be on of the best X-box titles to date. In the game you supposedly become a Dark or Light Jedi depending on dialog and your actions during gameplay. I for one cant wait to play the game and have been waiting for this game for about 3 months now.

I'm picking mine up tomorrow. ^^

Bioware is behind the helm on this one, so that's generally a clear indication of a quality role-playing game. They have a fairly impressive pedigree. They usually concentrate their effort on PC games from what I understand. Although, I've never played many of their series, such as Baldur's Gate and whatnot, I've heard that they're very good. So, it's exciting to see them develop a comprehensive console RPG.

My interest in Knights of the Republic lies in the fact that it's not a recreation of the more popular sequences in the films. It's exciting to find that it takes place 4000 years before the Galactic Empire came into power. So, there's originality involved as far as characterization goes. You're not reliving anything, you're seeing it unfold for the first time.

When I first learned of the game, I expected it to be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Although it would have complimented the Xbox Live library nicely under those circumstances, I'm happy that it's not. I'm pretty sure that it'll be a while before I shell out the cash for a broadband connection. :D

Getting off my tangent--the decision making aspect sounds nice as it relates to branching paths and determining allegiance to the light or dark side of the force. Plus, the production values are said to be impressive. Especially as it relates to the sound. I can't want to hear the voice acting and music.

I'm not too familiar with the combat system they're using. I've read about it and it sounds somewhat different from what I'm accustomed to. The interface certainly sounds slick.

I won't bother to ramble on any longer. Once I play the game I'll post my impressions.

I'll just say that I hope this will be an RPG that I actually complete. I've not done too well with completing games lately. >>

I have never been a huge fan of Star Wars, as a matter of fact I hated the Star Wars Episode 1&2 movies. I never really like the original ones either. But this game does sound interesting. I like the idea of being able to control your alignment, especially if it involves a lot of freedom, as in doing things in any order you want, or by completely passing up things. Personally, I'd like to just run around killing things at random to make myself look unstoppable, and perhaps earn a place among the truly evil in the game.

I have not played it, but I have heard a lot of good things about it. I also like that it is original as Charles said, it's not building itself around an old plot like the Episode 1&2 movies, as well as the games. It's rare to get a totally new Star Wars game with an original story, and the ones that are like that are usually just air combat games, which I really don't care much for. It's probably a great game, I'll have to try it out soon.

s the best RPG I've ever had the pleasure to play. Everything's interwoven, everything can be tinkered with, everything can be customized...heck, you can be a Dark Jedi! Go check it out if you have'nt already! BTW, it's horribly addicting (I've had it for only 3 days, and I'm already 25 hours through it o.o''')

This game looks very, very cool. So cool that it makes me wish I had an X-Box (but I still won't get one - I've never bought a console for one game and this is the only one that interests me on X-Box thus far). The subtle changes (the way people react to you and such) based on which alignment you choose sounds like a great idea to me. The story should add some good stuff to the Star Wars mythos as well (4000 years before the Galactic Empire - count me in).

Man, this game is unhealthy. They should place a warning label on it or something. It's very addictive. I'm almost as far into it as you, PsycoGoth.

I don't know if it's the storytelling or the variety, but KOTOR is very engrossing. There are just so many characters to interact with and sub-quests to become involved in. I've already helped to solve a murder mystery, participated in an illegal death match on Taris, been on trial, attended a drinking party, and eliminated targets for a secret bounty hunter organization. The best part is that I'm not even scraping the surface with that list. Take into account the fact that you're often presented with multiple ways to achieve your goals--and there's a lot of replay factor to consider.

I also like how it's up to you to get to know your party members. If you want to know about them, ask. If not, don't. The characters can be very complex given the opportunity. Most are haunted by an interesting conflict from their past that continues to influence who they are in the present. It's all very well done.

The character building and classes are very well-rounded too, I might add. There are many statistics you can play around with. The best part being--they're all useful. I've not stumbled across one aspect of the character building process that seems superfluous or gimmicky yet. You can sacrifice strength and instead be a smooth talker, a demolition expert, a master of picking locks, or an efficient computer hacker. All of these aspects present themselves quite often throughout the game, so it's quite a challenge to balance yourself out between abilities. ^_^

Oh, and, struggling to keep yourself aligned to either side of the force is good fun. I actually came to the part EGM mentioned in a preview where a large shark blocks your path. You can get around it by simply poisoning the water or blowing up the machinery that is making the shark angry. By poisoning the water, you effectively kill the fish, but damage the planet's kolto supply, which happens to be the planet's key economy. Little choices like that abound alongside more obvious choices, like paying the bounty on someone's head or breaking into someone's apartment, murdering them, and collecting a reward. Obviously, the dark side is easier path to travel because you're filling your own pockets instead of paying another individual's debt.

Another example is when an organization hires you to assassinate the chief of the Sand People. You can either earn his trust and help his people or you can carry out your mission and kill him. When trying to join the Sith, do you help a group of students who no longer wish to join the group, escape, or do you destroy 'em?

As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of this game. It has definitely captured my interest. I've been able to get around minor issues like constantly repeating character models and a choppy frame rate because it's so easy to appreciate what KOTOR brings to the table.

Yeah, this game is addicting, and it's one of the most fun games I have played. I've only played about two hours into the game too, so that's saying something for only the first two hours worth of game. I probably would play it a hell of a lot more, but I don't have X-Box, and I played it over my friend's house. I, obviously, went straight for the Dark Side Points. My goal? To become the evilest S.O.B. in Star Wars history, lol.

This game has screwed me up mentally though. Now I am obsessed with the idea of stabbing someone in the face with a Light Saber.

I rented the game on Saturday, and completed it on Wednesday. I rarely buy games unless I know its going to be something great. I had my doubts about this title, mainly because I had thought it was going to be action based, but it turned that it wasn't. They have labeled it turnbased but its on the border of that. As you have said the game can suck you in, and before you know it you spent the entire day just playing this game.

So many things can be done in this game, bounty hunting, judging who is guilty in a case, and solving the an old family feud.(that one was one of my favorite, specially doing it the dark side way) The dialogue and your choices really makes you feel like you are having a big impact on the game and that you are that character. When I did complete the game doing EVERYTHING to get dark points, I didn't know that I could get Juhani, and now that Im using her its really good to have another Jedi on my side.

Speaking of characters, it seems all the characters have some story behind them, well cept that lil droid. In the beginning I wanted to hear what they had to say, but as time went on, I grew tired of there talking(maybe a sign of the Dark Side)

I just started doing things the good way, and have gotten to Tatooine, doing that part Charles mentioned with the Sand People. I did help them out, but then I just decided to slaughter them all. I had thought that I wouldn't find it all that addicting going to the light side, but its still the same as before. Many hours spent of gaming. But also I find the lightside way a lil bit more challenging, since I have to take the time to help this guy out and give this person credits.

Heres are some questions I will ask all KOTOR players:
Dark Side or Light Side?
Color and Type of Lightsaber?
Jedi Position?(Guardian, Consular, Sentinel)
Favorite Force Power?

For me on my 1st time playing it was:
Dark Side, Red Double Lightsaber, Guardian, and Force Kill
and now its
Light Side, Blue and Green lighsabers, Guadian(I like to be strong) and Force Whirlwind

The game seems to be getting great reviews GameInformer even went as far to say its the most noteworth X-box release since Halo. I am still broke so I wont be getting the game for about another week but it's all I can think about. I seriously had a dream about the game the other night, everytime the commercial comes on I pause and watch it. I cant wait to get it.

- Dark
- Purple Double-Bladed Lightsaber
- Sentinal (I should have been a Guardian, though; then my Level 18 character, Kalaarn, would be semi-god-like)
- I like Force Whirlwind, Force Lightning and Drain Life

Does anybody know whether KOTOR is always going to be XBox exclusive or will it be exclusive for a few months and then released on other systems (ala Splinter Cell)? I really, really want to get this game, but I'm still apprehensive about buying an XBox for it (because this is really the only game that interests me on XBox outside of Panzer Dragoon).

I dont have the game but ive played it at my friends house. Im very addicted! I like it more than any other xbox game because of the freedom to do any thing you like. I'm trying to keep my character neutral on the force scale.
