The Shinobi Trials

The world of Naruto has been peaceful for some time now. Or at least, that?s what everyone is made to believe. In reality, shinobi are constantly involved in battles over territory and petty issues such as politics. Now, a girl named Michiko, who lost her mother to a shinobi battle, will stop at nothing to rally for peace before the Kage. This is where our story begins . . .

Michiko Kasanaki?s blonde hair fluttered in the evening breeze. She sighed, remembering her promise to her father about going to see the Kage for shinobi peace. She slipped on her red kimono robe, feeling chilled. There was a knock at the door.

?Miss Michiko??

?You may enter.? Michiko?s family had a butler named Moko. He bowed to her.

?Miss Michiko, the man you hired to gather your shinobi guard is here.?

?You may show him in.? The man entered with a few long scrolls of parchment. He looked at Michiko and chuckled a bit to himself.

?Sir, my age has nothing to do with this. You just do your job, and I will do mine.? The man was startled, Moko chuckled to himself. ?You may leave us Moko, I will call you if I need anything.?

?Very good, miss.? He left. Michiko sat opposite the man.

?My name is Yoko Entoya. I-?

?Yes Mr. Entoya, I know why you are here.?

?Well, then, I can cut to the chase. What kind of financial situation are you in Miss Michiko??

?You are asking me what type of shinobi I want, am I correct??

?Well, yes-?

?Money is no object sir. My father is a very large economic power on the Wave Island.?

?Well then, you would like Jonin? Or Chunin??

?Elite ninja or journeymen? Hn, that doesn?t sound like what I want.?

?Your mission is very important, is it not??

?It is.?

?I would recommend-?

?You recommending anything isn?t going to help me, Mr. Entoya. I would like Genin.?

?GENIN?! JUNIOR NINJAS?! On a mission of this much importance ma?am, I would-?

?Did you hear me correctly Entoya?! I said I wanted Genin!! Not Jonin or Chunin!? She stood up and gave him a cold look down her nose. ?Gather every Genin that will come from every continent to the Wave country. I shall test them myself. Good evening, Mr. Entoya.?

The next week, Genin from all over the world, at least, those who would come, gathered at the Kasanaki residence. Murmurs came from the crowd about what they were all doing there. Most had come just to show up their rivals, but others really understood the severity of the mission. Michiko stood in front of the crowd on a balcony in a black cat suit, her hair twisted into a messy knot at the back of her head.

?Welcome everyone to the Kasanaki Mansion. You all know why you?re here, so I won?t bore you with details.? Michiko picked up a heavy crate and threw it off the balcony. Several Genin jumped out of the way. The crate split revealing a whole ninja arsenal. Michiko threw several more crates into the crowd.

?Don?t touch the weapons. If you do, you will be ill-prepared for the task ahead.? Nobody moved. ?Good. Here is your task.? Michiko signaled to Moko, who opened the double doors of the mansion. Inside was something of a maze. ?You are to find the exit to this maze. Be warned, it is full of traps and perils, so be on your guard. The ones who make it to the end will serve me in my guard.

?Now, take your weapons.? The Genin approached the broken crates. Inside were the following:

Ninja-to (Ninja sword)
Shuriken (Throwing blades, all styles)
Kusari-Gama (Chain and sickle)
Kusari-Fundo (Weighted chain)
Tetsubishi (Caltrops, small spikes used to discourage pursuers)
Shuko (Claws, used as a weapon or to scale walls)

?Choose wisely. If you have too much equipment, you won?t be able to use anything quickly. It might be advisable to break into groups and distribute weapons evenly, though I recommend that you all take shuriken.? The Genin moved towards the boxes.

(Choose weapons now! No one goes into the maze until I post to do so.)

[Tasrai]

[COLOR=green]Somewhere in the middle of the crowd there is a short 16 year old boy standing around 4'8, with short reddish-brown hair that sticks out everywhere, he has intense gray eyes, and wears black baggy pants that are a little too short for him. Over his pants is a dark green shirt that's too small, and over his shirt he has a orange-brown jacket that's entirely too big, the sleeves cover his hands, and still go on for three inches afterward. He has flat brown sandals and on his forehead he wears a green headband with the Grass Country's symbol on it, his name is Jiko.

Jiko let out a small sigh as he waited for his turn to pick his weapons, he was curious about what this was about, but knew he would have to wait. He began to listen to the people around him. They were all talking about what was going to be in the maze and telling how they were going to be the only ones to get out alive. [I]Idiots[/I] Jiko thought, [I]How stupid and conceited can you get?[/I]
Finally it was his turn, he looked at each kind of weapon carefully before deciding on six shuriken, four tetsubishi, and a pair of shuko.

"You sure you've got all you want?" The guy handing the weapons out to people asked.

"Yeah, thanks" Jiko, done picking walked away from the others who had picked and walked off a little ways by himself to breath in some fresh air and to get away from the noise of the crowd. Still within seeing distance, Jiko put his weapons on himself where he thought it would be easiest to grab one when he needed it. He put the six Shuriken onto the rope that was tied around his waist, three on each side, then he put the four tetsubishi in a pouch that was tied to the rope also, finally he put the shuko in his jacket pocket. With that done and nothing else to do, he sat down and started to hum as he made grass houses. All the while waiting for the word to go into the maze.[/COLOR]

Hope that's O.K. I know it's a bad intro post but I'm tired, and I wasn't sure if we were supposed to only have one weapon....

One of them picked up the Ninja-to and waved it in a small circle, and then put it on his belt. He walked to the side and leaned against the Mansion wall. He had dark red hair that cast a shadow over his eyes, making it impossible to detirmine their color. He looked up at the sky and waited to be allowed into the maze.

[color=darkblue][size=1]Xion was looking at the balcony, which held Michiko. Xion's black hair was fluttering a little under the wind. After a little while passed, he looked towards the boxes on the ground, smashed to bits by the force of the fall. He then saw weapons, slowly falling out of the crates.

A smile grew on his face. He was thinking about a few things. Michiko, the maze, and the weapons...

He thought to himself, "Heh, this is going to be fun!" He started to walk towards the weapons, he already knew which two weapons he was going to choose.

He looked back and forth at the weapons, searching for his chosen weaponry. He saw them, he picked up two Ninja-to's. He put them into place in his belt. He then picked up about 15 Shuriken. He opened up his item's pouch and aded the Shuriken inside. He then closed the pouch.

He stood there, looking at the Maze entrance, glancing back and forth towards Michiko...[/color][/size]

[Ayokano]

[COLOR=red]Ki's light brown hair waved with the wind.He look to see why everybody was in a hurry.He saw weapons,and picked up a Kusari-Gama,a Ninja-to,alot of Tetsubishi,and a dozen Kunai.He went to the maze's entrance,waiting to go in.He rested both arms on his head,and taped the ground,wanting to go in.[/COLOR]

[Ninjah]

Kiyo was quite annoyed that she had been taken to Kasanaki Mansion without a reason.For she doesn't want to work with anybody unless it has something big to do.It was finally her turn to pick her weapons.She picked 5 shruikens cause she knew she'd use them over even if they are in a body,and a Ninja-to.She put the shruikens on her belt and the sword on her back.She then sat on a rock cross legged looking around.
"I just hope that some make it out of the maze,heh."Kiyo said quietly to herself.

[Little Serenity]

Michiko tapped her foot impatiently. She hated waiting when she knew she could be doing something. She stalked over to Moko, who handed her a cell phone. She opened it and dialed three numbers.

"Is everything ready? I want to get this show on the road!"

"Just a few more minutes, Miss Kasanaka. Our men are getting into place."

She sighed, "Fine. I will be ready." She snapped the phone shut. "All of you best hurry and chose your weapons, lest you be left behind with the dregs of the best weapons!"

(Everyone who signed up please post! I'm going to start the maze test fairly soon... ^_^)

Hey, i'd just like to mention that I may be gone from later today to sometime in the next two days.

[I]Kisho adjusted his blue jacket while he was waiting in line. Even though he was being hunted by his family, he still wore their clan symbol. He knew it would be easier for them to spot him, but he didn't care. He sort of wanted them to find him...A kid tapped him on the shoulder and he snapped out of his daze. It was his turn to choose his weapons. He picked up two handfuls of Shurikens and put them in his jacket pockets.

"She suggested taking some Shurikens...Could this have been a hint that there will be long-range combat? If so, I'd better bring this along."

Kisho picked up a Kusari-Fundo and tied it around his waist, under his jacket. He then picked up a pair of Shuko and having no where to put them, he wore them on his hands. He walked away from the pile of weapons and watched as a few Genin complained about the wait. Kisho shook his head in disgust.

"Impatience is already an awful trait to have, but it seems that theirs is linked with arrogance which makes it even worse. I wonder how long they will last in this maze test."[/I]

[Xra]

*sorry, went on a road trip:D*

Kray floated in the shadows, above the crowd. This mission was to be noble, and very difficult. Michiko announced she only wished for Genin Ninja. What a foolish move to make. Kray decided he'd watch over them from afar. The test shall prove if he would be needed or not, so he got all his equipment ready and hid by the entrance. They would be leaving to start the test soon and he would be there to see the best make it out...

[Little Serenity]

Michiko tapped her foot impatiently and looked at her watch.

"Alright time's up! Those of you who HAVEN'T taken your weapons, you may do so even after the others have entered the maze. Now, if you'll proceed to-" She was cut off. The crowd gasped as a man dressed as a shinobi lept onto the balcony and grabbed Michiko firmly so that she could not escape. She gave a yell as he jumped down in front of the maze doors, holding a shurikun at Michiko's throat.

"LISTEN UP!!" The crowd was quiet. "IF ALL OF YOU VALUE THIS GIRLS' LIFE, YOU'LL CONVINCE THE WAVE COUNTRY THAT SHE DOES NOT NEED TO GO ON HER MISSION! IF YOU DON'T DO THIS IN TWO HOURS, I WILL KILL HER!!" The shinobi yanked open the door to the maze and disappeared inside.

"What are we going to do?!!" Yelled someone from the crowd.

"We can't convince the Wave country to cancel her mission!! There's no formal government!"

"He'll kill Miss Kasanaki!"

"We have to rescue her! All of us!"

"SILENCE!!" Moko cried, exasperated. "If all of you go into the maze, I'm sure that you'll be able to make it through all of the traps! That looked like an elite shinobi to me, so he won't set off any of them!" Moko pulled open the doors, "Everyone inside, and please rescue Miss Michiko!!"

(Okay, maze is open. ^_^)

[Xra]

Kray felt the breeze of the man that went by him into the maze. He was so shocked, that he blew his cover as he ran in after him.

"This is the novice ninja's test, not mine, so i best not to trigger any traps."

Kray jumped up into the air and tried to locate the assassin. He was getting through the maze, no problem. He landed back on the ground and drew his sword. He then started running through the maze in pursuit.

The traps in the maze were very well tricky to a lowlevel ninja. The maze itself was very well designed along with it. Still, Kray got through it with ease, and was careful not to spring most of the traps. He was catching up to the shinobi, he was just beyond the bend......

[Little Serenity]

The elite ninja slung Michiko over his shoulder and began to run faster, ignoring many of the traps. Michiko noticed a shinobi coming up on them, also not tripping up any of the traps.

[i]Dang... gotta improve these later.[/i]

"Hey," she leaned toward the shinobi, "One's coming up on you."

"Well I'm sorry, [i]miss[/i]." The Chunin sighed, exasperated. "I didn't want to have to hurt anyone but..." He took out a shurikun and threw it against a wire on the floor, which he had jumped easily. The throwing knife cut the wire and a panel slid out of the floor, closing off the hallway, leaving Kray at a dead end.

"You're just lucky there's another way to the end of this thing," Michiko growled. The Chunin sighed and continued on his way to the end of the maze with Michiko still slung over his shoulder.

[Xra]

'What the? That a cheap trick. I all of my 200 ye- wait...'

Kray looked toward the side of the wall. There was a slight opening on the side of the wall. It was too small for humanly possible, so there wasn't much he could do. He peeked through the hole to see the shinobi was makin his way further into the maze.

Well he could do one thing. Kray jumped up into the air, turn towardsthe ground with his sword straight down, and spun into the ground. If he wasn't gonna catch him by chasing him, he was gonna cut him off. So he drove near the rouge close by, under the ground...

[Ninjah]

Kiyo got up from her rock and started to run through the maze.The traps weren't easy to dodge since she is a Genin.Kiyo would jump to see were Miss Michiko was.He then spotted the man with Michiko.Kiyo smirked.She then ran fast throwing some shruikens at the ground and picking them up making sure that there wasn't any traps.She didn't dodge about 4 traps so she was wounded but she didn't mind her wounds she just wanted this to get done.She then soon caught up with Miss Michiko and the elite ninja.

[Ayokano]

[COLOR=red][I]Ki looked to his back,as he ran into the maze.He droped all of his Koroshiya at the entrance of the maze.He soon ran in,and did backflips as arrows shot passed him.He would get to the end.He soon came to a trap that shot spear objects from the ground,and he jumped above them,and landed on the ground,and ran more.He came to the point when the ground calapsed below,and he saw that it was a net above large points.He found himself hangging from his Kusari-Gama,and he pulled himself up to the edge of the cold stone.He saw Miss Michiko with the elite ninja,and she was followed by others.[/I]

Ki:Hey,Come back you....kidnapper.

[I]The ninja still went on.If Ki got close he could kill him with his Kusari-Gama.He threw the chain and missed.He pulled out some Kunai,and saw another tarp.More of the spears came out,and he jumped those.He was going to land,as more came.[/I]

Ki:Awwwww!!!!!!!!!!

[I]He threwed the Kunai at a space in the spears.They stoped them,and he pulled the Kunai out.Came near to Miss Michiko and the elite ninja.[/I][/COLOR]

[Squall]

Vince ran as fast as he could to get to the end of the maze. The traps were bookstyle constructed, each with a simple way to evade. He set down the corridor until he found a row of seven doorways. He saw the remains of a genin and relised that all but one were fatal. He picked up the remains of the genin and started throwing peices of his armor into different passedge ways. All but the first peice were destroyed, so he went to the one farthest on the left. He saw the elite carrying Michico and bolted after them.

[Tasrai]

[COLOR=blue][SIZE=1][B]Jiko looked up from his grass town, to see everyone going into the maze. Calmly he stood up and carefully avoided stepping on his grass town,[I] Don't want to mess this one up, it's better than my last one.[/I] Sure that he wasn't going to knock them down he walked over to the entrance of the maze. He watched as the genin infront of him ran into it without one cautious glance. [I]Five...Four...Three...Two...One..[/I] A shout erupted from the entrance and the same genin came walking out with two arrows stuck into him, nothing fatal, but certainly painful.

"Here let me help you," Jiko said, kindly. The genin was about to say no, but he changed his mind and nodded. Ten or fifteen minutes later, Jiko had sucessfully finished bandaging his newfound friend Chihiro, and helped him to his feet.

"Thanks, Jiko. I'm glad I swallowed my pride and let you help me. If I hadn't we would never had become friends."

"Hey, no problem. How about we go into it together, two heads are better than one."

"Sure, you lead."

"Good idea." Jiko said jokingly, and walked into the maze, carefully watching the walls and floors infront of him, looking for trip wires and such. With the combined efforts of Jiko and Chihiro, they went at a pretty steady pace, not setting off one trap or mechanism. About thirty minutes in, Jiko and Chihiro decided to seperate.

"Meet you at the end," Jiko said with pretend cheerfulness. As he watched Chihiro head off down the right fork in the maze. A little sadly he turned to the left. He walked along for about five minutes without seeing a single trip wire. [I]Weird...Maybe it's supposed to let me get too cocky and get off gaurd[/I] Suddenly more alert he spotted the faint c carved into the ground. [I]That's what I would have stepped on, these traps are getting harder to spot.[/I] Jiko suddenly wished Chihiro was back.

"Oh well..." Jiko said outloud to himself letting his eyes wander to the maze walls, an idea slowly formed in his head. Getting his shuko out he put them on his hands. Then he slowly scailed the wall, reaching the top he looked out over the maze.

"Wow! I could just walk along the walls. Why didn't I think of that before?" Laughing inwardly he stood up, balanced himself, and was off. Looking around he spotted the Shinobi carrying the girl and kept his eye on them, while still watching the wall for sudden dead ends and turns.[/COLOR][/SIZE][/B]

[Little Serenity]

"You know, some of these guys are pretty dang smart." Michiko chuckled.

"You're supposed to be a hostage, act like one."

"Oh come on. I can at least have fun with this right?"

"Fun with what?!! I'm going to kill you in around an hour and a half!!"

"Oh sure. Not if my Genin guard gets to you first." She winked at him. He sighed and sped up, hearing two more Genin following them. He had tripped around five traps already, and the only one who he'd been able to shake was that Kray guy. These Genin were good, too good.

"I can't believe they're keeping up with me!" He raved, catching a glimpse of Jiko on the wall.

"At least SOMEONE was smart and took the claws." Michiko sighed. "And what are you doing making conversation, huh?"

"Well... I have this thing with silence... ANYWAY!!" The Chunin stopped and turned. Jiko, Vince, Kiyo, and Ki all stopped, frozen to the spot, shurikuns and various weapons at the ready. The ninja's one eye narrowed at them. "You are all truly worthy to guard Miss Kasanaki. However, you shall never get the chance!!!" The Chunin pulled blinding powder out of his belt. "Cover." Michiko pulled her turtleneck over her face. He gripped the bottom of the open bag and made a large arc across the entire corridor. Smoke filled the passageway as the sand, ash, and pepper went airbourne.

"I- I can't see!!" Jiko exclaimed.

"BRILLIANT! Neither can we!!" Ki yelled angrilly, rubbing at his eyes.

Meanwhile, the Chunin and Michiko had already turned two or three corners.

"C'mon, at least give them a tiny hint. That was kind of low." Michiko frowned.

"Why don't you scream or something?"

"Well... I'm not really the type to scream, but, okay!" She filled her lungs with air.

"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!"

"Needs work."

"You think?"

[Tasrai]

[COLOR=blue][SIZE=1][B]Temporarily blinded by the powder, Jiko kneeled down on top of the wall. He had almost slipped when the Chunin threw the powder, thinking quickly he jumped down the side of the wall away from the powder and took his water bottle out of his pocket. Working quickly, but calmly he poured some into his hand and splashed his face, then he poured some into each eye. Which were watering in reaction, trying to get rid of the harmful powder. Within a minute or so Jiko could see again, everything was blurry, but he could see. Then he took a sip and washed it out of his mouth. [I]Maybe that outta stop me from coughing.[/I]Blinking his eyes furiously he climbed back up onto the wall. The powder had already settled up on the wall. Jiko looked down to where Vince, Ki, and Kiyo were, the dust hadn't settled because they were all moving around [I]No, no, no.[/I].

"Stop moving and it will settle!" Simotanously all three of them stopped moving, but were still rubbing their eyes. A minute later it had settled. Jiko climbed down and lead each one around the corner away from the powder. Then he handed his water bottle to Ki.

"Wash your eyes out, but try not to waste it. When your finished give it to another person and tell them the same. I'm going ahead to see if I can spot them. O.K.?"

"Uh, sure...O.K...thanks" Jiko turned and climbed back onto the wall, leaving it to him. His vision still wasn't the best, but he could see. So, no time to waste, he ran skillfully along the wall, jumping ocassionally when there was a dead end. Jiko finally spotted the chunin, a good twelve turns ahead. Jiko stopped running and began to walk, randomly running to keep up, but keeping a good enough distance from them so that he could be seen, but couldn't be attacked, or headed off by shuriken or tetsubishi. [I]What luck! That powder would have totally stopped me if I hadn't just read about in a magazine. I hope the others are doing O.K.[/I][/COLOR][/SIZE][/B]

[Ayokano]

[COLOR=red][I]Ki had just washed his eyes out,and was now turning corners.He saw Jiko,and had slowed down.They were at walking pase,and soon found the others with them.Ki put his hands on his head.[/I]

Ki:So.....
Jiko:Shhhhhhhhh.....
Ki:Fine.....just trying to get some talking going on.....man I hate it when it's quite.
All of the group:SHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Ki:FINE!!!!!!!!!

[I]Ki:Man I'm going to have a hard time with these guys if the are like this.Man.[/I][/COLOR]

[color=darkblue][size=1][i]Xion was running after the kidnapper and Miss Michiko. He only had the safety of Miss Michiko and catching the kidnaper on his mind right now. Once he thought of her safety, he ran against his will, at full force. [/i]

Xion: *thinking* Must... catch... up... to... him...

[i]He finally caught up to the rest of the gang, who were running as well, Xion decided to put on an even more burst of energy. He pulled ahead of the group, towards the kidnapper...[/i][/color][/size]

[Squall]

'Why would the kidnapper go farther into the base, instead of his own territory? Things just aren't adding up.' Vince thought as he followed the chunin. 'I doubt he's really an elite.' He picked up his pace and started to close in on the kidnapper. He wouldn't usually care about her safety, but she was the employer which left Vince with little options. He was getting closer, but still kept his distance. He kept his eyes on his feet and copied his steps to avoid any traps.

[Xra]

Just then, Kray lept out of the ground and stood in front the Shinobi.

"You should know when you've met your match. Put the girl down...."

The warrior stood there with a shurken(sp sorry) to Michiko's neck.
"What, do you care for this girl's life?" the rouge hissed.

"No, I don't care for her life....but I care for her mission."

Michiko's eyes opened real wide. She couldn't tell if she was going to die, but then she heard Kray's voice in her head.

[I]I have him distracted, signal the others to sneak you out of this maze....[/i]

Now she was confused, but she signaled them at once. The Genin kept running in, but now quieter than before....

[Little Serenity]

"Hold it right there, Miss Michiko!" The Chunin held the shurikun closer to her throat. "None of you Genin move an inch! You hear me?!!"

"For God's sake, all of you stop!!" Michiko cried. They stopped moving. He WAS an elite ninja... he had heard them coming!

"That was good,"

"Thank you."

"Why should we listen to you?!" Kray snorted.

"I hold her mission and her life in my hands. Now, if you'll all proceed to the end of the maze, we'll discuss things there. All of you go ahead of me."

"No way!" Xion yelled. "We can't trust you."

"Then, Michiko dies." The shurikun left a small cut on Michiko's neck. She screamed out in horror.

"YOU IMBECILE!!!"

"Be quiet."

"Alright!" Ki sighed. "Come on, all of you."

One at a time, Jiko, Vince, Kiyo, Ki, and Xion passed the Chunin and began to walk.

"How do we know you're still there?!!" Kray glared at the Chunin.

"Miss Kasanaki will tell me the directions out of the maze and I in turn will tell them to you." Kray turned around and began to walk down the passageway.

"Two steps ahead?" whispered the Chunin. Michiko nodded. A second later, Michiko yelled in suprise as she and the Chunin fell through a trap door.

"WHAT THE?!!" Xion yelled. Kray pushed him out of the way just as steel bars slid across the opening in the floor. Kray cursed loudly.

"What kind of elite ninja falls for a trap?" Ki laughed.

"You fool!" Kray yelled, "The chunin plans to come up through another trap door, they could be anywhere in this maze!"

"Then we have to split up again!" Kiyo began to run one way.

"No!" Vince yelled, "That won't do us any good, we'll all be picked off by him. He has the upper hand now."

Jiko paused to think, "You know... he said something about settling this at 'the end'."

"That's it!" Xion reasoned, "He was heading for the end of the maze all this time!"

"Then let's get outta here already!" Ki yelled.

Meanwhile...

"It's just trick after trick, isn't it?" Michiko muttered.

"Well, what was I supposed to do?"

"I thought that I'd picked the worst Chunin to be kidnapped by, you falling for that trap."

"Just a detour." The Chunin arrived at the end of the maze. "They now have half an hour to get here before I kill you."

"Sure sure..."
