Semjaza
godhead is an industrial group basically. They've been around for years, but did their best saleswise with their last CD, 2000 Years of Human Error. The CD was put out on Marilyn Manson's Posthuman Records label (which was under Priority... which was since bought out, so Posthuman is now defunct). They got some exposure thanks to a lot of Manson's influence on their tour as well as putting their songs in various soundtracks along with some larger, similiar bands (Blair Witch 2, Queen of the Damned, etc). Anyway, I felt it was a really great CD... Some excellent writing and good beats. They really had moved on from Power Tool Stigmata, their previous disc. This was especially obvious in Eleanor Rigby (yes, a Beatles cover) and Penetrate, which were both redone on 2000 Years of Human Error to much, much better effect. Anyway, I love the band if you can't tell. Their new CD, Evolver, came out this past Tuesday. I've not gotten it yet, but I've heard a bit. It seems a lot more guitar based than their previous efforts, with heavier emphasis on vocal distortions. I'm not sure if I liked what I heard yet, but the quality was horrible... so who knows. So any other fans here? And if so, any plans to get Evolver?
treton_noir
hmm... i didnt even know (surprisingly enough) that they had a new record in the works at all, much less that it was out. yeah. i've got 2000 years and i like it well enough. i think they do a better job of what they do than a lot of the guys doing it now. gonna have to see about evolver. Semjaza
I remember you mentioning them in the past... I figured you'd post in here, if anyone heh. Yeah. I didn't even know until a couple months ago. Came as a bit of a surprise. That's about the same time I found out that Posthuman Records was gone. I've always liked godhead... I don't know if you've heard their previous two CDs, but 2000 Years was a massive step up in quality. There are a few songs on there I still listen to constantly (I Sell Society, etc). I figure this album will be pretty cheap. I picked up the last one for $5.99 at Best Buy. Hope it turned out, but I admit, what I've heard so far didn't really win me over. treton_noir
thats a shame about the new stuff. no. i havent really heard anything from the older records. is it just bad recording quality, or is it crappy writing, or what? ps while we're on industrial stuff, i started an industrial cover of pink floyd's "comfortably numb". its gonna be rad-daddy as crap. Semjaza
Heh. I look forward to hearing it... if possible. I've still not heard any of your stuff lol. The older records are still very good, but it's kind of a mixture of studio problems and a lack of focus on the music side. Many of the songs really have some useless sounds to them that detract from the overall composition. The recording quality was never bad, but I'd assume that Posthuman had to have had a better studio and equipment... it just sounds quite a bit better. So really, I think they just matured a lot between those records. It had been years, they finally were on a bigger label and apparently Manson had a decent influence on the sound. treton_noir
lol has manson ever not had a decent amount of influence of anything? he probably had quite a significant difference in budget as well, allowing them to use better crap (or to do some better crap(of course you know what i mean) which had a different influence on their stuff. lol) who bought priority? and why didnt manson just hold on to post-human (or was it a contract thing between priority and post-human?) Semjaza
I'd imagine he let them use a lot of the recording equipment Marilyn Manson itself uses. I've seen videos of their offices, and it wasn't exactly a totally small time operation. What I've heard about Priority is basically a lot of word of mouth. I'm not sure what happened to Priority itself... but however it all went down, some of the smaller labels at Priority were removed after the acquisition. Priority is still obviously around though. Manson, godhead and everyone inbetween don't seem to ever talk about it... so it's hard to just give hard facts heh. The label hadn't done all that much anyway... All I can think of is the Blair Witch 2 soundtrack and 2,000 Years.
XeEmO
My friend showed me their cover of Eleanor Rigby and some other stuff on the same album (I don't remember which album it was). From what I heard though I thought they were pretty good. I didn't even know they were on the Blair Witch 2 soundtrack, but I hated that movie anyway. I might try to dig up some money and get one of their albums used later. I've been looking for some new bands to check out. If I do go looking for one of their albums, which one would you recommend? Semjaza
Well, at this point... the only ones you'll probably find at most places are 2,000 Years of Human Error and Evolver (and possibly Power Tool Stigmata). I've not heard enough of Evolver to recommend it... so I'd grab 2,000 Years. Eleanor Rigby was on a couple albums, but the better version is on 2,000 Years. I believe Break You Down is on the Blair Witch 2 soundtrack. I never saw the film, but there were some decent tracks on the CD. Notably a cover of the MASH film theme song, Suicide is Painless, by Manson (the lyrical version). If you're looking for other new bands and you like this sort of sound... I'd also recommend Curve. You can't really go wrong with any of their albums.
