I mean there always seems to be a few people who make threads which are basically just ads every now and then. (OK, I dont know this for sure, I havent been around here for very long, but it just feels like thats what happens.) ...Your thoughts, fellow Otaku Board-ians, and moderators? And we've defined what we consider to be appropriate in our rules. So, while we don't allow advertising threads, we do allow people to advertise sites within their signatures. If it is, I think that rule should be changed. Sometimes, the link is a source of discussion (i.e., anime news or some interview). I'm currently unsure about making a thread in the .hack//SIGN forum because what I want to quote is an exclusive interview, and I don't know if I'll be doing something wrong or illegal. The problem is that certain mods got overzealous with the outside linking rule and went out of control. I've talked with James in the past, as I disagreed with many link deletions... and he said that shouldn't have happened. For example, someone made a thread about a band and left a link to their website. A mod went in and removed it. James told me there was nothing wrong with that link. This is totally different from making a thread or a post for nothing more than advertising... especially something that is your own personal work. That's where that signature stuff comes into play. If you post a [i]thread[/i] to advertise your site or any other site, you're spamming. Simple. But if you're talking about Nintendo for example, and you have screenshots/info on your personal homepage that is relevant to the discussion...sure, you can go ahead and post a link. No worries there. If the link is in context with the discussion and if you aren't linking to porn or something, you're quite free to provide links in posts. But as I said, we only ask that you do not create actual threads that contain advertising/links to other sites. juna Posted July 18, 2003 Share Posted July 18, 2003 I like OB largely for the fact that it is one of the ONLY anime boards that does not have pop-ups, banner ads, or an Advertising Forum, shrug... I think I wouldn't like this place as much if it had any of that stuff... This site is clean, and non-bothersome, I love it the way it is....
