Moments in gaming.

This thread is to discuss some moments in gaming that were memorable, disappointing, emotional, or just really fun.

First of all, I think that most people will agree with me when I say that the
death of Aerith
in FFVII was very emotional.

The first time I played Super Mario World was pretty memorable too. I remember eating snacks, chips and drinking soda all day playing the game with my brother. We got close to Bowser's Cave that day too, which is pretty good for a couple of kids.

Playing Mario Kart/Mario Kart 64/Super Smash Bros with my siblings and friends. We spent countless hours talking trash, jumping up and down for joy, and getting mad at each other with these games.

Capcom making the idiotic mistake of taking the online mode of Marvel VS. Capcom 2 out of the American PS2 version.

Most recently, raising my chao in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the Gamecube. Even though the overall game was a bit disappointing, I love raising and breeding different chao.

My most memorable moment in gaming would be the first time that I played Super Mario Bros. for the NES. I was at my cousin's house and we were getting ready to go to sleep. Or rather, we were supposed to be getting ready to go to sleep. As soon as his mom closed the door, he pulled out his NES and started playing Super Mario Bros. I was very young (about 3 years old) at the time and didn't really understand what he was playing. However, I did see the Nintendo light gun on the floor that was plugged into the NES. Of course, being the little rascal I was at the time, I picked up the gun and started randomly shooting at the screen. After about four shots, I hit Mario with a shot from the gun and he died. Of course, I didn't care that he died, I only cared about the funny music that came when Mario died. So, I did it again when he came back on the screen. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my most memorable moment in gaming. Ah...memories.
Aerith being killed by Sephiroth...that still ranks pretty high on my list of moments in games, but not because I liked Aerith. In fact, I never really liked her and found her to be annoying. I just thought it looked cool when she bit the big one lol.
Ah, fudge... You have so many memorable moments in video gaming, but when a question like this thread comes along, it all disappears. :o

Meh, I didn't think much of FF7. In fact, that scene didn't really floor me. I admit that they did a good job building you up for the surprise, but I don't know... Maybe it was because I prefer FF3 (aka FF6), or because I was sick of the same old gameplay format Square kept recycling when I played FF7. I guess I just never got into FF7 like I do in other games. Anyway...

I would have to say one of the most memorable scenes were the endings to both Soul Reaver games. Now THAT floored me, especially part 2's ending. I mean, I still consider SR's epic story better than a lot of popular books/stories/novels. I was impressed that they handled so many themes and ideas with what they had to work with (Kain's coin, anyone?). On top of that, they were able to surprise you even after part 1's ending (come to think of it, even part 1's OPENING was amazing). From start to finish, from game to game, the SR series was a shock-fest. So, the SR games in their entirety I would vote to be one of the most memorable moments in gaming.

EDIT: I'll post more later, when things come to me.

While that particular FF7 scene and numerous other game moments are memorable to me, the scenes from Silent Hill 2 stuck with me more the first time I saw them.
Because Maria looks like James' wife, he sees her getting killed over and over again by that monster with the pyramind head. He's never gotten over his wife's death because of what he did to her, as the ending shows when the letter is read aloud, and throughout the entire story, his grief is reflected by the experiences in the town.
So that was interesting. Really sad, how it all turned out.

I remember getting my SNES when I was younger. I remember just being stuck in front of the television playing Mario all day. I can't remember how many times I beat that game. That was my world when I was younger. That was the best game back then.
Another one my gaming moments was when I beat Halo on every single difficulty level. I played my butt off trying to beat that game on legendary, by myself. That was the hardest game I had ever played. Now it is pretty easy since I am pretty good. The secret ending on legendary was kinda weird
you know, when the man and the covenant monster are fighting then they see that the ship is going to explode and then they hug each other and everything explodes.
Yah, that was weird the first time I saw it. Those are about all that I can think of right now.

I think it was one of the Mario games...When the mushroom says
Sorry Mario, the princess is in another castle.
.

I never forgot that 'till today...I was 7 years old...*sniffle* I threw a glass cup at the TV and ran out of the room...I STILL don't know how the game ends.

I also remeber when I broke my Sega Genesis because I couldn't beat Sonic 2...I never got another Sega Genesis after that...

Most memorable gaming moment? Ah, geeze, that's a hard one. Let me think for a bit....

Hmm, I think my most memorable moment is when I first beat Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I'll never forget the fight with Ganondorf and Ganon. My palms were sweaty and I was shaking all over by the time I beat Ganon. (Heck, my hands were shaking before I even went into the fight, I was so nervous, lol). Then when he finally went down, I just collapsed back into the chair and watched the ending in wonder and relief.

Another of the most memorable gaming moments is in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, right after you bust in on Peach's forced wedding with Booster. She says she'll give you(Mario) a kiss, then Bowser(who's on your side) complains that Mario's getting all the credit. Booster(who's a few corn dogs shy of a picnic) then says that he wants a kiss, too, and everyone moves in on Peach. Of course, Mario's between them and her, so things get a little confused. Someone always ends up kissing Mario, but it's normally not Peach. Sometimes two characters kiss Mario. This sceen is hillarious, epecially if Peach(and only Peach) kisses Mario, beacuse then Bowser and Booster end up kissing!

I have a quite a bit now that I think about it... None really involve actual gamplay though.

- The day I got my NES. It was for Christmas from my Great Grandmother. I remember the card and everything. I really didn't even know what the thing was at the time heh. This was like when I was 6.

- The day I got my SNES. My mother gave it to me for my birthday. It had already been out for quite some time, and mine was packed with Link to the Past. I remember setting it up and just being blown away. The sound on it simply owned any other videogame system up to that point. To this day, I've never been as impressed by a single game as much as I was by that.

- The day I bought FF3. The game had just come out. This was a time when RPG carts were expensive as hell. People seem to think that started with N64, but it definitely didn't. I paid $65 or so for it with tax and was really excited. The game was really hard to find at that point.

- The day I got Dragon Warrior. I was about 6 when I got this game, the first real RPG on the NES. The first real RPG in the US. It came free with a subscription to Nintendo Power. My mom was nice enough to renew my subscription and not tell me. It came in the mail randomly one day. I still have a HUGE attachment to the series that is obvious to anyone that talks to me about RPGs.

- The day I bought Earthbound for my SNES. I went with my mom and used a $5 off coupon. Man that box was massive. Still my favorite SNES game.

That's enough for now.

One of my most memorable moments in gaming was;I had just got Donkey Kong Country 2:Diddy's Kong Quest. This was when the game was brand new. My cousin came over to my house and we took turns playing the levels. Well neither of us could get past the third level so we decided to take a break and watch a movie. I remember I didn't like the movie so I went to sleep. An hour or so later my cousin woke me up and started yelling,"I beat the third level I beat the third level!" We both got up and started screaming and running around the room. We beat the land and got well into the second land before we stopped and went to sleep.

mmmmm the first video game i ever passed all by myself. No tips, or switching controls. the baby was all mine. Nights...into Dreams.
God that game is awesome! i remember thinking how the world was in my grasp and that i could have died then and there and been content.

I dabbled in games after that, but then when i played and passed grandia 2 i rediscovered that feeling. It was a game that made me feel like i knew everything and i was somehow wiser.

When i discovered galaga and space invaders as a kid, well(tugs at atari shirt) i found a home.

OOT was mad-easy the whole way through. What made you think that it would suddenly jump in difficulty? Haha, but it's cool that you can get into a game so much. Still, why were you nervous? Because you were going to end a game that gave you so much enjoyment? :)

Oh yes! I remember another one! I was just playing this game in anticipation for Chaos Legion. I have to say that this scene easily takes a spot on my top ten scenes.
In DMC, when you first meet the lizardmen (you know, with the claws and the helmets, in that open area
just before the room with the Ifrit gloves
). A lizard jumps out of the ground to your left, and then the camera immediately spins to the right to reveal another lizard, and lastly, it follows the middle lizard down, where he gives you the finger! Then he puts his helmet on. Haha, that was golden! I didn't realize that he gives you the finger (with his middle claw) until I saw it the second time. C'mon, how cool was that? It was put in so subtly.

Well, I was only 11 years old at the time, so it seemed harder than it did when playing Master Quest on the bonus disc just this year. It wasn't scary, but I was nervous about it being the last battle of the game, and I did also expect it to be harder than previous boss fights. That, and it was also the first game I ever beat, besides Super Mario World and a couple racing games. So it was quite an exhilerating experience, being the first adventure/RPG game where I actually even made it all the way to the end boss. I was also totally in awe of OOT throughout the whole game, so I couldn't even imagine what the end boss would be like.

That's about the best I can describe it; it's hard to explain. It wasn't so much the difficulty of the game, but more just the fact that it was actually the end boss. Like I said, besides Bowser in SMW, it was my first real end boss fight.

 • 2 weeks later...
Oh man! My favorite moment?! Thats like asking me to choose Beer or Women! Jeeze. It would have to be the day I moved to Hawai'i and met Mike, A good freind and son of a guy who works at Square Hawai'i. Translation dept! I got to play games that never made it to the US! Just not often. Like once a year while we waited for his dad to finsh work (Can you say Secret of Mana 2 and 3! Or how bout Secret of Evermore 2 and 7! I mighta read the kanji wrong, It mighta been 4.). Oh well. Either that or the first time I beat Chaos in FF the original. I proudly brag that I am one of the only 50 people in the world (I know of) to ever pass Timat the wind demon.

Two moments, one game. The console: NES. The game: Bubble Bobble.

First, this happened a good while ago, say, 9 to 10 years. I was spending the night at my cousin's house and he had his NES hooked up. So, my brother and cousin pop in Bubble Bobble and start going at it. After a while (and a late night) they get past level 99 and reach the final boss. Excited, we sit there and I watch them do battle. Unfortunately, they never could beat the final boss (VERY hard even with 2 players). But...that leads me to my next story...

...so, years later, about a year ago, my other cousin and I load up my old NES with BB and start hitting it hard. Knowing the level 99 code from 8 years prior, we *BEAT* the evil, uber-hard boss!!...except...
"You have received the false ending. This is not the true ending!" ...or something like that...
I can honestly say I bawled like a little girl that day...:p

Let's see...what else...

Well, there is playing through and beating FFX. That was awesome. Oh, and anything from the SMB series on NES. Great titles.

Finally, there is Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2. MGS1 was fantastic, but with MGS2, well, if you have played it you know about it...if not...
playing as newcomer Raiden and not Snake is a definite bittersweet situation; you love Snake more but want to kill Raiden :p
Anyway, those are some great moments of gaming I have been through...

:D

For me, it was the first time I ever played a video game, and I'm surprised I remember it. I was 3, and I don't remember much fom that period in my life (I have fallen on my head multiple times since then). I played the original Super Mario Bros. I just remeber it being the coolest thing in the universe!!!

And then there's Chrono Trigger, when Crono dies. swear, that was one of the saddest moments in my life. Kinda. I mean, I thought he was never coming back, and I played the rest of the night until I brought him back, which was consequently at dawn, much like in the game.

Finally, my last moment was much, much more recent. In fact, I experienced it, yesterday. It was at the end of Megaman Battle Network 3 when Megaman.EXE selfdestructs himself in order to say Lan. And I really wish more people would realize that that game is NOT A KIDDIE GAME. That just makes me mad when people say that.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I'd like to say that
the death of Aeris
was memorable, but there are many deaths of Comrades in RPGs nowadays that saying that particular one is memorable, I remember fondly the
death of Lavits from Legend of The Dragoon
. So saying the
the death of Aeris
was memorable is KIND OF like saying that the deaths of other "good guys" in games, wheter it be RPG or other genre is non-important.

But back to the matter at hand..A memorable gaming moment?

My 3 most memorable moments in gaming would have to be finally beating Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Devil May Cry 1.

Metal GEar Solid took me like a week to finally beat.

Metal Gear Solid 2 took me about 9 hours. I played it for about 8 hours straight one night at my aunts house and stayed up all night, proceeded to beat it and do my victory booya dance and then proceeded to go to my uncles motot cycle shop to do a little work. I haloosinated for half the day becasue of lack of sleep, but it was worth it.

Devil May Cry, i beat in one full day, my freinds came over and everything and we played it for about 24 hours until we beat it. That was a awsome game.

...Huh. Coulda sworn I posted in here..

Well anyways, I have a few really memorable moments in gaming...

1) The final fight in Golden Sun versus Saturos and Mendari. This one took me maybe 3 weeks to get through.. That one fight.. Then I left the game alone for a while, then decided to restart the entire game.. Which was a wise decision. Lots and lots of fun in that game. ^_^ Then I did the happy dance for about 4 hours after I beat the fusion dragon and called up my friend/rival and bragged for a while... Hehe...

2) The scene in Enter the Matrix when Niobe kissed that lady in the cheteau. Hehe.. That was priceless. "How about I shoot your kneecaps off instead?" My brother and I played through the game as Ghost first and saw that scene and we were saying that they'd change that scene somehow for Niobe.. But they didn't. :D That was hee-larious.

3) Watching my Sim city get destroyed by aliens. I had worked for about 6 months making a utopia in the Sim world, and the entire large lot of land be destroyed by UFOs.. I was foolish enough to use nuclear power. -_- So in the end, my entire town was a radioactive wasteland and I could just imagine the mutated freaks trekking around the town.. >_< That was aggrivating that I had forgotten to turn off the natural disasters..

I dunno why so many people had truoble with the fusion dragon.... It was easy, IMO.

And I forgot one more memorible moment.......
Splinter Cell.
It just got me focused enough that when I was seen (that happened far too often) I practically fell off my bed in a panic. Yes, I love that game.
