Well, i'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday..I was wondering if anybody could tell me what the procedure is and how long it takes to recover, stuff like that. I'm kinda scared - my sister told me that i'd look like a chipmunk for about a week - and I know that the doctors are going to do an IV, which I hate..but could anybody just tell me what it feels like or something...to make me feel better?? :)

Mine took about 15 mins to pull, and you don't even know that the time passes. You wake up with a lot of cotton in your mouth. Most girls do cry after the procedure, it's something to do with the anestesia. DONT drink through a straw while you are recovering. It really isn't that bad a thing at all...Eat lots of yougert and soft foods that a spoon can be used for, chicken noodle soup is good.

WEll, I don't know myself, but my friend just told me of her pulling of the wisdom teeth. She said that it doesn't hurt (probably 'cause they numb ya), but you may feel a bit sore after it's all over. I dunno about the chipmunk part. Maybe, but she didn't get that side effect. She didn't tell me of the procedure, but it's nothing to worry about. But she still wished she could keep them since the procedure seems useless, anyways.

When I had mine out, I don't remember how long it took. The IV was the most painful part of the whole proceedure. When I woke up, they walked me to a recovery room, which I had to sit there for 15 minutes until the anesthesia wore off. I had no pain so far because of the novicane I was given before the operation started, but it felt like my face was about 5 inches wider. :-\ I was given pain killers to take home, but my parents said that they would give them to me when the pain started. Which was a mistake. The pills take around 15-20 minutes to work. So when my mouth started to hurt, I was given the pills, and by the time they started to work, it f**kin hurt. So remember, start to take the pain killers while the novicain is still in effect, so you don't have any pain when it wears off. And Change is right, soft ice cream (no cone), yogurt, and other cold soft things are your friends for about 3 days. After the stitches dissolve (I got dissolvable stitches :D), it will feel like you have holes in the back of your mouth. Food tends to get caught back there, so remember to flush those area's out good or else they might get infected and hurt worse. I got a syringe type deal with a plastic tip that I could flush out the holes with. It's nothing to worry about, getting them out if they are going to cause problems are better then leaving them in. :) Good luck.

LOL! Me too! I think my exact words were something along the lines of "I've had enough of this f**king s**t." and I went for the door. But the nurse laughed said I couldn't go yet and led my half-alive body over to a bed to let the anesthesia wear off. ^_^

My friend thinks I'm going to have to have them pulled sooner or later. According to him, my teeth are so straight and perfect that they won't have room to come in. oO; I don't believe him, though. ~_^

I would have thought that if they needed to be pulled, I should know already. Would they normally have come in if you're around 16?

The only bad part about getting your wisdom teeth out is seeing all sorts of yummy food that you cannot eat yet! :D

My whole experience with getting my teeth pulled wasn't bad at ALL. I think I took a total of two Vicadin for the pain -or lack thereof- because it didn't really hurt that bad after the first day. Plus, Vicandin (the painkiller they give you) made me really sick, so don't keep taking it if it makes you feel sick, too.

I was eating solid food [within reason] three days after the surgery, and when I went for my week check-up the doctor said that I had healed faster than anyone he'd ever seen.

I think a major part about why the ordeal wasn't a negative experience was because I went into it thinking positively. I think that if you worry about it beforr the surgery, and then moan about it afterward, that's when it turns into a nasty time. So really, it's not that bad at all.

And by the way, the anesthetic IS really fun. I don't remember the ride home at all, even though I was awake ^_^;; Oh! And Chicken Broth is extremely tasty and easy to drink! Try it!

WELL..aren't you special. It just so happens that my wisdom teeth are about to grow into a main nerve that curves around all of the teeth..the w. teeth are coming in diagonally, and all of my other teeth are straight..the docs said that they should take them out now instead of when i'm sixteen or something..i'm only fourteen.

Well...i'll try to stay positive....but I like hate IV's and everytime i'm going under I always moan and everybody in the room laughs..::sigh::..and then my mother makes fun of me afterward. I'm sure it sounds really nasty....but anyway, that's the part that I hate most, and then afterward, i'll ask (w/ all the cotton in my mouth) "is the operation over yet?" which sounds like, "ehthehopwerasionovayeh?" all in one big slur. ::SIGH::...

Keep giving me ideas and comfort..please!!

Wisdom teeth are the teeth at the back of your jaw, aren't they? And some people get them pulled out, because they can cause a lot of pain when they're coming in.

Mine are coming in now, but they don't hurt too much. Terpischore, like Baby Girl said, stay positive about it, try not to worry too much. Hope you recover quickly! ^_^

Well if that's the case, mine are already in. They came in ages ago. I mean.. along, long time ago. And they aren't hurting.

Either that, or I've got absolutely no idea. I've always thought you kept them in (not pull them out).

Looks like someone beat me to making a topic.

My wisdom teeth are coming out on the first of August. I'm getting all four pulled at once. And it would just figure that I'm in a musical and have to sing. I'm going to probably miss an entire week of rehersal...

Boo Hoo...

On the upside, no more horendous jaw pain.

I got all of mine pulled out last year around this time. The laughing gas (or nitrous oxide) they give you before the IV will make you not care about the poke so it should be alright. The only pain that I experienced was after sleeping again at home and waking up, but the vicadin took care of that. I was delrious coming home, singing weird things.

I think wisdom teeth are the body's design to make up for missing teeth...but now that there's dentists and all to keep our teeth clean, there's really no need for it so when it tries to surface, it starts pushing on your other teeth and pinches on nerves if they're not extracted.

Word of advice...if you're family is eating something solid, like steak...you might not want them to stick it in a blender so you can have some too.

You go there, get knocked up, and your mouth hurts for a week. You will look like a chipmunk and solid foods will not even be an option at all. To say it's not painful, that's a lie. Your jaw will be hurting for a while after the surgery.

I had to get mine cut out so I would imagine getting them pulled wouldn?t be to bad. They injected me and knocked me out and it took about 3 hours and I had stitches for about 2 weeks. They gave me painkillers but it didn't really hurt so I didn't take them. The only time it was uncomfortable was when I had to eat. The only bad thing about getting them pulled is the chance of getting dry socket but that rarely happens so don't worry too much about that.

...dry socket? ::scared::...I have to get them pulled out because if I don't, then they'll pinch the nerve that runs along my mouth..which will be painful. ::sigh:: i'm still not happy about getting them pulled..but at least that means that I have an excuse to be in bed all day and miss guard for 2 days...yeeaahh..
