Zen
I'm sure you've all come across this before, but i'm new and want to know, who do you guys think are the best mechs and there pilots. I personally like Roger Smith and the Big O, SHinji and the Eva unit 02(or 01, its been a while since i last saw it) Sai Saishi and the Dragon Gundam, and Duo Maxwell and the Deathscythe Hell(in that order.) I want to know what you're guys'opinions are on the subject.:smirk:
silpheedpilot
Besides Evangelion....more Cartoon Network anime....I personally like Turn-A Gundam and Loran Seack its pilot. I'm betting eventually you'll all see it on Cartoon Network in some form..
Zen
Turn-A Gundam is cool and all, but the mech design is very, very strange and i wish that they had just stuck to the more realistic formula.
silpheedpilot
Everything needs a change sometime. I thought the designs were spectacular! It was one of the best Gundams I had ever watched! Great story, the fights were...WOW, beautiful! I would admit the usual Gundam Crown on the chin was kinda strange, but it all worked out in the end. They delived a great Anime that most liked. So its all good.
Zen
The only MS i liked in that show was the Mobile Kapool and Flat. All of the other ones looked like the seventies-eighties giant robots. They were either all pointy or just looked strange. I'm not saying that the story was bad. But apart from that, don't you think its funny how in Big O, the Mega Deus' look more well animated than the people?
silpheedpilot
Its a mech, it HAS to or no one would like the show! Psh..no one cares how the people look. The mechs have to look good or the Anime will be a dud, thats just how it is. No one cares if Roger gets hurt. They dont want the Mega Duece ruined. Mechs make Mecha Anime how it is. Zen
Okay, but it just that if the people would look better it would give a bigger feel of realism. Apart from Dorothy and Dastun, the character design is a little bland to me and that can get borring. And what is up with the pointy fingers on everyone?P.S.-Theres nothing wrong with CN ANime. Its not really different from the ones on Action Channel and Tech Tv. Just no nudity because its on basic cable.
silpheedpilot
Its Anime! Quit being so picky! Thats how the character designer wants their characters. Would you rather the characters have diamond shaped fingers? Or balls for hands? C'mon, dont be so picky, just watch, and love.
Zen
I do love it, i wouldn't have put it down as one of my favorites if i didn't like it. I just wish the characters were like Cowboy Bebop level since Spike and Roger have the same voice actor. But hey lets stop arguing over this, did you like the Gundam Movie, "Chars REvenge". silpheedpilot
"Char's Counterattack" You mean? Just trying to clarify...anyways, yeah. It was good. Not what I had exected, but good nonetheless. I didn't like how he was gone at the end of Z Gundam but resurfaced in "Char's Counterattack" The best part of the movie was how Amuro was after Char the whole time. It was great. EDIT: I dont think Spike and Roger where voiced by the same guy, David Lucos...Nah..I dont think so, they just sound the same.
Zen
Yeah i loved that movies Mobile Suits. When i think of Eva's though, i can't really deside if there mechs or not, because the like Cell from DBZ, there like Cyborgs. Part organic part mechanical. Would you consider them mechs?P.S.-maybe it happened before Z Gundam, but i wouldn't know because i didn't see that one.:mrt:
silpheedpilot
Cell and the Driods from DBZ? No...Mechs are usually giant humanoid robots. They cant really think on their own, they need a pilot. Cell was a thinker, he was his own pilot.
Zen
No, i'm mean, do you think there like biomechanical beings, like Cell was, but without brains, and in place of there brains was the pilots cockpit and that cable thing attached to there backs? Syk3
I don't know about the best Mech, because I havn't seen that many Mech animes, but my favorites by far are the Evangelions. To start off with the Evangelions themselves, they are probably the deepest, most involved Mechs in any anime.
In reality, these mechs are actually creatures made in God's image who are controlled by NERV through the armor that surrounds them. Heck, they even have souls residing in them of people who are no longer alive, and have a deadly autopilot that's like a raging beast. To top it off, they are practically invincible and are made to handle extremely powerful weapons.
After that, though, I couldn't say that the pilots are really my favorites.
First of all, they only allow kids to control them, who have somewhat fragile minds and are reluctant to do a large deal of damage. They are given a good ammount of manuverability once they are in the cockpit, however, and I like just how attached they become to the Evas, to the point where if the Eva is being strangled, so are they.
So overall, yeah, the Evas are probably my favorite mechs. Maybe not the best, I'm not a big fan of Gundam so I don't watch it that often, but deffinitly my favorite.
WW2
All I'm hearing so far is Gundam and Eva. Has everyone forgoten about Macross/Robotech? Macross's Veritech fighters may not be the best mechs around, but they are some of the coolest, and more stylized. Plus they're super fast and have the ability to transform. Out of the entire Macross universe, I have to say my favorite mech was Guld's blue veritech from Macross Plus. I mean he controled the entire fighter with his brain power, which was pretty cool. silpheedpilot
Dont forget then Zentradi! They had Mech's! They were some powerfeul mechs too. Dont forget about the Mechs from Sakura Wars! Good mechs! Umm....Yeah....There two more other style of mechs, they are good!
Shinji-Kun
The only reason the Eva pliots are kids is because for the Eva to function it needs the brain activity of a 13 year old.
Zen
I read in a mag called anime invasion that it was because the Evas could only be piloted by
the people born after the second impact and that no one else had what it took. P.S.-there 14 not 13.
Kwai
Sorry, WW2, but being the Eva fan that I am, I will have to go with Eva. But I personally like Eva Unit 05-13 because of their sheer power, regenerative capabilities, and
those awesome lance of longinus they carry.
Second to that, I think I prefer Eva Unit 03 when it was
infested by Bardiel.
I think that form was probably the strongest out of all the Evas.

Yeah, I know why they have to use kids as the pilots, I'm just saying that because they do, they wouldn't ever be able to have some bad *** pilot dude that shows no mercy. heh That would be tight to see in an Eva, lol; manually, that is. But then, because of the age, it also shows us another way how the Evangelions are such complicated mechs, which I like, tehee. So I guess that would make me confused. ;)
bignatedawg
being the huge robotech fan that i am, i'm going to have to say that my favorite mechs are veritechs, and specificaly Rick Hunter's veritech, its got a nice paint scheme. Evas are cool and all, but i'v always hated shinji(see greg, i can acctualy say it!) and i'm a bigger gundam fan that evangelion anyway.

Don't kill me, Shy, he made me do it)...but I can also sort of understand why, in a way. Afterall, to only be 14 and have the fate of the world resting on your hands (especially the first time he piloted it), it's enough to make anyone break down. So yes, once again, Evangelion has my favorite mechs, but not necessarily my favorite mech pilots, and this is the only series with mechs that I've really gotten to know. Zen
Yeah, and his dad uses him like a tool of war. So he kinda deserves to be whiney.

Yes, the producers seem to have done the series as realistically as possible, showing exactly what they believe what happen if there were things called Evas that protected the world from Angels and had to be piloted by kids. And really, you're not going to see a 14 year old under this kind of pressure just "suck it up". It makes sense, but he's still not going to be my favorite mech pilot. ;)
OtakuSennen
Hm.. ^_^ Yeah, I think Evangelion has the best mechs, Unit 01 being my favorite. They move easier than most other mechs in anime due to the fact that if the pilot thinks it, it happens (if they focus enough and Sync Ratios are good). The only anime I can think of with mechs with better maneuverability would be G Gundam.. The fact that N-2 mines have little or no effect on Evas (N-2s are like nuclear weapons, or something near that level) shows that they are pretty darn near indestructible.. ^_^ Shinji, Asuka and Rei kick Gundam booty, IMO.
