Zidargh
''...and here we are. The rebels. Or so we're named. Exiled for serving our Kingdoms. No respect. Nobody listens. We only have one goal. To live the triumph of what we overcome, To reunite the belief as 'The Ramza Batallion'.'' Batallion Log Book: Year 128 It finally occurred. Our leader and founder, Ramza Beoulve, passed away. He constantly told us all to live proud and never forget what he taught us, yet, ever since the attempted assassination of him, the poison that was induced slowly caused our leader to die away. We never fully understood what he wanted us to live for, yet some of us supported him in the Lion War and they're fortunately still with us today, maybe we can be rewarded with closure of why we were exiled. There are still so few of us, only little of our ranks seek to avenge what the new monarchy had taken from us. However, there is hope, everyday a couple of recruits with the purpose that is equal of ours seek to join the Ramza Battalion, and we welcome them with open arms. Soon, we will strike back at the monarchy's newly introduced army. Of course we only have the strength to launch small guerrila attacks, but one day, after our resources become useful or an event triggers our hearts to turn berserk, we will overthrow this empire and put the righteous heir to the throne. If only Lord Overalt was not in prison, this would never have occurred. I do not feel proud to be given the rank of Lieutenant, Master Ramza. Why? Entry- Leo Tantosen Historical Context of the Ramza Batallion After the final end of the 50 year long Lion War, Ramza Beoulve declared his followers warriors and constructed a rebel group in case an outbreak of the corrupt monarchy occurred. Following the death of Ramza Beoulve, the monarchy was able to reconstruct itself under the treachory of the Prince Kelost. Under the monarchy, the kingdoms of the world were forced under the Kelost Monarchy's control, thus exiling those who opposed the previous monarchy. There was no opposition as the mempire of Kelost had grown too large to be overthrown, hence, the Ramza Batallion gained ranks unlike any others. Several attacks onto the empire whether they be to redirect resources toward the rebel groups in the world or guerilla operations, caused he Ramza Batallion to increase its publicity and yet further the need for its extermination. Under Lord Kelost's order, an army was formed, aimed with the blind goal to remove the rebels, and thus began the beginning of a second war. This war was then named ''The Dragoon Consequences' War''. As time passed, the rebel groups grew to a considerable size, and then operations were to be launched. Hence the world came to be as we know it. ----- Locations The Ramza Batallion Headquarters: The headquarters of the rebel group of the Ramza Batallion. Based primarily in woodland, this small landmark shares a borderline with the native Kupo Village. The headquarters is hidden in trees that surround the perimeter, hence it is given a natural habitat and cover from any invasions. The headquarters itself is made up of a newly-found material named 'Steel', this was chosen in order to prevent any explosive weaponry or bullets from piercing the walls. The Kelost Empire: A kingdom made primarily of machines. This highly industrial area is home to many classes of wealth. These being the dirty slums, or escalating to the central palace of its huge size. Hence, this makes an adequate area for Lord Kelost to stay in security. The Empire's continent is foritfied by its borderline walls made of solid stone. This stone was given by the excess use of the summon, Titan. There has never been an incident of any spy or person seeking refuge in this continent. This mainly being because of the number of enemies Lord Kelost has made. The Kupo Village: This mystical village is hidden between a maze of hedges and habitatal growth, thus preventing any human from viewing what the village holds. Rumor hold that in this village, there exists the friendly and magical race of ''Moogles''. It has been said that they can be called upon by summoners for their use of healing. The Machine Dockyards: This ocean based location is world-renowned for it's extensive use of importing and exporting. In this area, the invention of rifles and magical cannons were found. Now that the Dragoons Consequences' War has began, this dockyard has been supplying weaponry all over the world for each continent's defenses. However, this area is without wealthy, slums and thieves are always found in the outskirts of these docks. The Delita Grandway: Here, legend speaks of one hero whom left his friend Ramza Beoulve to become a Dark Knight, walked these very tracks in order to overcome any enemy that stood before. The blood spilt on thse tracks are supposed to glow a mystical beam of life, which guide any traveller around the world. This Grandway runs straight around the center of the world, connecting to any road leading to any location. The Missionary Fields: Here is said to have portrayed the end of the Lion Wars, each army was said to send a missionary declaring peace throughout the world. However, the Kelost Empire ignored this historical landmark and placed towers all around the surrounding border to claim the land as Kelost' territory. The Gunners' Canyon: Here is said to be the greatest of all places for the use of a Gunner. It's highlands that contrast with low lands provide excellent quality and range for any marksman to use. However, an underground connection of natural tunnels from erosion provide an escape for any victim. The Mages' Sanctum: Here the worlds' largest cathedral stands. It's huge structure provides many floors and rooms for any squire to learn the ways of the Mage. Soldiers were said to seek refuge here if injured, while the priests showing, no allegiance, would help any whom seeked aid. The Magick system still exists today. Wutai Village: This far eastern city is said to study its very own culture varying from ceremonial tea making, to the arts of the sword. The powerful and spiritual class of the Samurai is said to originate here, while they must pass the seven tests within the Bushido Pagoda. Wutai's people are said to be very secluded within their city and only unleash their abilities when they have the inevitable need to. The Civil Grounds: This huge area of life that spans the world is segregated within it's own countries. Villages and cities exist here to date, however, the Kelost Empire is said to be exiling men and women who refuse to join forces with them. This hugely populated area is a highly adequate location fro trade. These locations are only primary locations that stand out and give a historical context and deeper context to the world in this RPG. I am looking for some customisation if you are not happy with the locations. Just request and i will examine your ideas. I will also be designing a map. As you can see, this is a somewhat sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, I tried my hardest to overcome the open ended storyline to make this RPG more intriguing. I shall now state the sign-up sheet required for an entry to join. Sign-up Sheet Name: (Please try to make this appropriate to the storyline) Age: (This can vary between to a young adult or older war hero. Either way, this adds to the intrigue). Origin:(I shall allow customisation here, you could create a village's name etc. However, if you choose to be under the Empire's rule who opposes the Batallion, make sure you state the origin as 'Empire Kelost'). Allegiance:(The Ramza Batallion, The Kelost Army or neither) Rank:(Leave this blank. I shall decide upon each sign-up. It is not chosen on sign-up quality). Job Class:(Final Fantasy experience in classes please. For example; Class: Dragoon. A large thankyou to James for the link that should help you out with this section. Job Class aid ) Weapon:(Medieval firearms can be included such as a rifle) Bio: Appearance: ------- That is all there is to it. All I require is an example of your writing that is no less than three paragraphs. Just simply PM me a short sample of your writing from another RPG so I can decide on whom to include. The main specification is that you have Final Fantasy knowledge. This is mainly linked to the classes. Another point. You can also be characters from other Final Fantasy games, but make sure they have nothing to do with high technology. So Ginnylyn, yes you can be Auron. Any questions, just ask. Thankyou for reading, and I'll post my sign-up after some recognitionfrom other members has been made.
James
Name: Clavat Bunel (Boo-nell) Age: 20 Origin: The Kelost Empire Allegiance: Ramza Batallion Rank: Sergeant (as per Z's recommendation) ^_^ Class: Knight (Whilst Knights are primarily adept with HP/physical attack capability, as well as the ability to equip heavy armor, they also posess reasonable magical capability, unlike other warrior-type characters) Weapon: Sword Biography: Clavat was born into a well-to-do family in the Kelost Empire. His family lineage was steeped in gold mining. And Clavat's father, Cerion-Gall Bunel, worked directly for the Royal Family on certain occasions. Bunel's mining operation allowed great wealth to flow freely into the Empire and it provided jobs for many of the upper class. Of course, the picture wasn't entirely positive. Bunel's gold mines also employed lower class workers who were paid very little and who were overworked in dirty conditions. Cerion-Gall Bunel became quite a tyrant, who punished workers that complained and became highly accustomed to an upper class lifestyle. However, when gold became scarce around the Imperial Continent, Bunel needed to find new sources. And he did; he began to mine the coastlines of other islands, regardless of any complaints from their residents. When residents did complain, they were often silenced. Originally, Clavat was unaware of most of his father's dealings. He went to an expensive school in the Empire and learned the fine art of fencing. But one day, as he happened to overhear a meeting that his father as having, he learned of the terrible exploits of his father's mining operation. And on that very night, he packed his posessions together and left home. He was 18 at the time. For a year after, Clavat made a reasonably comfortable living as a bounty hunter. Despite the connotations of such a trade, Clavat generally favored those who genuinely needed help. He wasn't going to succumb to the temptations of quick wealth like his father had. And finally, he met a senior member of The Ramza Batallion, a group who opposed the arrogant Kelost Empire. Clavat saw this as a chance to join a worthy cause, and he did. For over a year, Clavat has been involved in the Batallion's efforts. Occasionally, when the war dies down a little, Clavat returns home to "Clavat's Loft", a tree house that he built in Fortitude Forest, in an effort to escape the industrial world of the Empire. Appearance: ------ I'll PM you a sample now, Z. I hope my sign up is okay. ^_^
Zidargh
I know I stated that I'd wait for members to sign up before I put up my sign up, however I felt there was no point. May as well get it over with. ^_~ Name: Leo Tantosen Age: 23 Origin: The Wutai Village Rank: Lieutenant Job Class: Knight (Knights are renowned for their statuses generating around high HP levels and higher physical strengths in comparison to other classes. Once completed their studying of magic, Knights can learn low-level White Magic and mid-Level Black magic, hence knights are thought of as a good 'all around' class.) Weapon/s: Dual Short Swords Biography:Leo was born within the walls of the secluded village of Wutai. Having begun learning the way of the squire while his father was serving his role in the Lion War under Ramza, Leo felt he automatically was given the role of protecting his mother. After time and fighting went on, Leo neared the age of 14 when he was adept in the skills of the knight and was about to begin to learn the teachings of Bushido. However, the end of the Lion War was nigh. After Leo's father returned with many medals and scars, it was heard that a sanctuary for Ramza was being created, and Leo's father was requested with serving Ramza again as corruption of the monarchy was about to begin. Within a few days, Leo packed his belongings and went onto the Ramza Batallion Headquarters, and at the age of 15, Leo carried on his training as a Knight. As the Dragoon's Consequences' War began, Leo's father was sent to the front line in a guerilla attack at a line of Lord Kelost's army. However, he did not return. Within a couple of weeks, the only lasting messenger returned with the report that the attack was a failure and that none of the men and women were spared except for the messenger who made a quick escape. Undertaking Ramza as his father, Leo began to form an unbreakable bond with the leader, and continued his training in the event that Leo was called to duty. As time went on, ranks began to form, and the Ramza Batallion's title was spreading throughout the lands, it was unfortunate that at the age of 23, Leo had to let his hero leave him aswell. Still keeping a positive attitude, Leo began to take on his role as Lieutenant more importantly, and took more notice of the new recruits entering the Batallion. It was only to await the real war to begin. terra
Name: Rydia Salayes (Note: I didn't intend for this to be the original Rydia, though it pretty much sounds exactly like her. I wrote her story first, then decided to use her name for the sake of ease.) Age: 19 Origin: Village of Mist Allegiance: Ramza Batallion Rank: Private Summoner (as per Zidargh's instructions :)) Job Class: Summoner (Though Summoners are generally weak at attacking and defense, they have the capability to call upon magical monsters to serve various purposes in battle.) Weapon/s: Staff Biography: Rydia was born in the Village of Mist, a tiny village within the vast Civil Grounds. The village had remained hidden for several hundred years from any outside contact, protected by one monster who prevented any humans from entering with her strong cloud of mist that caused confusion to all it touched. The Kelost Empire encountered the monster on one of their missions to the Civil Grounds to recruit new officers. After a fierce battle, the monster fell, and with it, Mist's protection. The army soon discovered the village's secret: it was full of powerful Summoners, who had stayed in hiding for generations to avoid using their powers to change the course of history. They had not, however, gone without hearing news of the Kelost Empire and their evil intent. The discovered Summoners' tiny village was soon surrounded by the army. Many chose to fight with their abilities; the army was resolved to force them into subordination, and with reinforcements was able to beat down the tiny village. Most summoners, realizing the direness of the situation, chose to kill themselves rather than give themselves over to the Empire. A lucky few escaped, Rydia among them. The group of escapees soon split up rather than provide the Empire easier access to track them down. Rydia traveled across the Civil Grounds, making her own way and calling upon her monsters only if she was in desperate need for help. When, hurt, she called upon the moogle Mogri for healing, he listened to all that had happened to her and said he might know just the place for her. He led her to the Ramza Batallion Headquarters, where she listened to their purpose. Remembering what had happened to her tiny village, she joined the ranks without hesitation. Mei
Name: Amai Zokushi Age: 18 Origin: Born in Wutai, now living just outside of the village. Allegiance: Neutral. Rank: Job Class: Samurai-A samurai must be exceptional in speed and strength, considering most of their attacks are powerful swipes, coming directly from the sheath. Weapon: Katana Bio: Born in the village of Wutai, and raised as a fighter, Amai spent most of her life training. Her father was very harsh on the issue of "a woman's place," and the fact that he wished for a son to train, not a daughter, made his attitude towards her worse. Amai was taught by her father to use her powers to the fullest, no matter what the situation, but her mother, a cook for the village, wished for Amai only to use her unique abilities when they were truly needed. For Amai, each day seemed like toture. Her father woke her up before dawn, and kept her training until it was time to cook breakfast. She would help her mother with the chores and meals, then go back to polishing her skills once again. Because of this hard schedule, Amai rarely had any time to herself. After being devastated by the death of her mother at the age of 14, and realizing the fact that her father's training was becoming too intense, Amai decided to leave Wutai. She settled down in a field area outside of Wutai, surrounded by a forest. Amai has been living under the sun, in the tall grass and shaded trees for four years now. She trains in her own way, living off the land with the creatures of Earth, and on special occasions, re-visiting the village of Wutai. Raiha
FINE! I give in. Name: Vastus Megelani Age: 28 Origin: The Civil Grounds....but is travelling south. Allegiance: Neutural Rank: Job Class: Dancer Weapon: Scarf, used as a garrotte, also as a whip when attatched to her bracelet. Bio: Vastus has been hailed as a sign of better times, as she's been employed by those in high power to entertain, although her skills with fighting are currently unknown to most. She'll defend herself, and join with whoever she deems to be in the right. Although she loves what she does, she might hate who she does it for. Whenever someone makes a misguided come on, they usualy dissaear mysteriously and she moves on. Of course, she usually gets away without a problem, owing to her stainless reputation. But if one dug a little deeper, they might find a file or two stating exactly who and what she is. As for family, she curses their memory. Selling her out to a dancer as an apprentice, then leaving and never coming back. She fervently hopes she meets them again, to kill them for abandoning her. But that is an empty and idle hope. Doesn't stop her from the ill wishing though. Appearance: see attatchment.
Desbreko
Um, do I need to know a lot about FF Tactics specifically? I'm totally winging it for my character's back story. :cross: Anyway, the PM with my example role play shall be sent shortly. Name: Arik Farrel Age: 29 Origin: The Mages' Sactum Allegiance: Ramza Battalion Rank: White Mage Captain Job Class: Priest (Physically weak and lacking in defense, Priests make up for these weaknesses with their powerful healing magic. Though weak by themselves, Priests are extremely valuable allies, allowing others to fight on far after they normally could, as a result of their white magic). Weapon: Oak Quarter Staff Bio: When Arik was still a young child, only two or three years old and just learning to walk, his family's small home near the Mages' Sactum was attacked by a band of thieves. After taking what they wanted, the thieves left the house a burnt and smoldering wreck, leaving Arik's parents outside to die as their son watched. Trapped under the debris, tears running down his torn, bloody, and burnt face, Arik could do nothing but watch as his parents died before his eyes. Saved when a group of mages came upon the burnt house, Arik was taken to live at the Mages' Sactum, and was put into early white magic classes when he later showed an affinity towards the art of healing. Years went by, and Arik retained very few memories of that dreadful day, only glimpses here and there, and the other mages were loath to tell him of his past. At the age of 19, Arik was given his signature violet-hemmed robe in honor of his completion of the advanced white magic classes, and because of his love of violets. (One of his few memories from living with his parents was the image of a vase of violets sitting on the mantel above the fireplace). During his small graduation party, his teacher informed him that it was time for him to leave the Sactum. "It is time you saw the world for yourself, and gained the wisdom that comes from experience." Shortly after, Arik set out from the great cathedral of the Mages' Sactum to travel the world. Years passed, and Arik's skill with white magic grew, maturing him into a powerful white mage. In the past year, he stumbled upon the remains of a small battlefield, a few bodies laying about and the smell of death in the air. One man was left alive, no doubt mistaken for dead, as he was unconscious and just barely living. Quickly casting Cure3, Arik was able to save the man, who told him of the Ramza Battalion whom he was part of. Interested in this small rebel group, Arik journeyed with the man back to the Ramza Battalion HQ, becoming more and more convinced that this was where he was meant to be as he listened to the man's tales of service with the Battalion. Upon arriving, Arik joined them, serving as a healer for the wounded, and has remained with them ever since. Appearance: Arik wears the traditional white robes of a priest, but there is one very noticable difference. That is, instead of the pattern on the hem being red, it's a deep violet. This matches well with his deep green eyes and long, dark brown hair which he usually wears in a loose ponytail. As proportions go, Arik isn't really anything special, at 5'10" and in fairly good shape with a normal build. For facial features, Arik is fair-skinned and would normally be considered quite handsome, if not for a number of scars and blemishes across his face from the attack on his home when he was still a young child. This, added to the seemlingly ever-present black stubble on his chin gives him a bit of a gruff look, though in reality he's one of the gentlest people in the world.
The Harlequin
Name: Kattarin Quisanth Age: 24 Origin: The Civil Grounds Allegiance: Neutral Rank: Job Class: Monk Weapon: Hand to hand. Bio: Kattarin was the daughter of a rich pampered trader, which made her less than unique among those is her set. Even less uniquely, her father fully intended to basically auction her off for various trade agreements. Another less than abnormal factor, she had an elder brother, who of course was pampered, educated, and basically had life given to him rather than ever actually experiencing it himself. Kattarin was the opposite. She to never experienced anything, but she had life wrenched away from her en masse, and was basically cloistered, normally in the company of idiot babbling girls, for her first fifteen years. At that point, she was introduced to society, normally on the arm of her brother, then twenty. So she watched, a face in a stasis expression of a smile, as her brother palmed her off to the typical drooling old men, and courted his own pretties. Kattarin remained congenial, behaved as she was expected to, and dropped dark hints about her father's wrath to anyone who decided to become a little bold. All in all, life wasn't that bad. Her brother, however, started growing moody. Sick of being pecked apart by over-chaperoning mothers, he took to drink rather than flirtation. As he stumbled down the path to blissful libatory intoxication, Kattarin tried to help him. She pleaded, railed, and eventually threatened him with their father's wrath. His response was entirely unexpected. He grew abusive. Inside that small chamber he slept in, where Kattarin strode in and demanded he recover, he beat her into unconsciousness. The incident was not mentioned afterwards, despite it being common knowledge, mainly due to Kattarin's long convalescence.. If anything, Kattarin received reproving glances for goading her brother. She grew sullen in silence, showing no hint to anyone. All continued rather sterilely, until her brother, on some strange whim, insisted they go to a social function, like they had in the old days. Kattarin was now 18. Everything seemed to be a recreation of the past. He palmed her off, flirted courteously, and she endured. This time however, the fondling approach of one of her...suitors.... was not put off so easily. Truly told, the man approached Kattarin's brother, and Kattarin's brother, blinking owlishly and rather happily semi-drunk, insisted she submit to him. Kattarin summarily refused. Her brother grew angry quickly, and lurched to his feet, slapping her hard, and then repeating the move with a closed fist. A few more quick, powerful hits, and Kattarin was on the verge of blacking out. Her brother made some vulgar joke about it being irrelevant, and raised his hand to strike again. Kattarin shuddered, quivering in tears with anticipation of pain. Instead, she heard a series of sharp cracks, then a loud thump. She opened her eyes, aghast that someone had dared intervene with her brother, regardless of what he was doing. She saw a man dressed in a plain robe, with a shaven head. Inquisitive, smiling blue eyes enquired silently as to her wellbeing, then he helped her up. She stood, disorientated a moment, her shock not helped by the sight of her brother prone on the floor. The man assured her he was fine, thinking that that was her cause for concern. Kattarin's eyes narrowed. She spat on her brother's fine garments, and stepped forward and kicked him in the ribs, savagely. She turned and stormed out, ignored the outraged glances and whispers that followed her. The man waited five minutes and came after her, finding her only a short distance away, curled up and whimpering desperately. He comforted her, and introduced himself as Wyvern, a title rather than a name, as he was a member of an order of monks known as the Fades. To calm her, he related what he knew of the order, for he knew not what else to say. She quietened, intrigued, and a month later was indoctrinated. The training was harsh, oriented mainly around physical and mental mastery of the self, through the most extreme activity known, that was a perfect synergy of mind and body. Combat. Nothing else requires such focused concentration. Nothing else is so unique to a person. A line of the order's imparted wisdom is "You tell me how you fight, and I shall tell you what you are". Kattarin, aided by the Wyvern, passed the final initation easily, far outstripping all the other current contenders. Unlike most monastic sects, the Fades are not celibate, and indeed encourage relationships, and quite naturally, Kattarin and the Wyvern had a rather intense, though short lived, passionate affair. To the suprise of most, she was the one to break it off, though there was certainly no ill-will from either party. Rather, Kattarin felt that the final trial of the order had to be faced. A period of return to the outside world, to experience life in all its facets, for this was how they acquired their titles. Their ability to weave the macrocosm into their simple existance, and finally, after having mastered the internal, master the external as well. Kattarin also has a vague notion of finding her brother....Perhaps she'd offer him a rematch. Appearance: The attachment. A few other notes though; she's close to 5"10, and obviously quite slender. That dress she is wearing cuts off at about mid thigh, for mobility. Tends to wear soft-soled black shoes.
James
Originally posted by Desbreko Um, do I need to know a lot about FF Tactics specifically? I'm totally winging it for my character's back story. :cross:
Hehe, you did a great job, 'breko. You got your class description very accurate. ^_^ This RPG reminds me of a cross between FFIX/VIII and Tactics. o_O Anyway, it's good to see more people sign up. I have high hopes for this one. ~_^
Patronus
Zidargh, if this starts before Tuesday, I won't be able to post until after, because I have to print out and read Final Fantasy: Networks of Destiny to catch up. I hope that is ok. Name: Sean William Age: 24 Origin: The Mages Sanctum Alliance: Ramza Rank: Job Class: Wizard Weapon: Scythe Bio: As a child, Sean lived a life of struggle. His older brother, Maximus, had fouoght and died in the Lion War under Ramza. He was so grief stricken, the young boy had to have his powers stripped until teen years arrived. Living as a normal boy, Sean always felt something was missing. And indeed it was. Upon turning 13, Sean was granted his powers again. With extreme caution, his parents taught him spells and charms. Under Wizard Gustoff, he learned curses, which greatly displeased the village. Believing that Gustoff was planning to harm the Sanctum, the head Mage's binded Gustoff and evicted him out of the area. No one knows where he is now, but he has always been on Sean's mind. At age 20, Sean joined the Ramza Battalion. Believing his powers could be used to avenge Maximus's death, he swore to serve Ramza. To this day, he hasn't ventured back to the Sanctum. Appearance: (see attachment) -L/Z
Break
Name: Sade Ivwynde (iv-wind) Age: 19 Origin: Near Wutai, a little village called Graata Allegiance: The Ramza Battalion Rank: ---- Job Class: Lancer/Dragoon Weapon: Naganita Bio: He left home at a young age, thirteen, after his family and friends were massacred by a group of theives that pillaged Graata. Having acquired enough fighting skills from watching his father fighting the theives off in vain, he left with his father's Naganita and Dragoon Armour in search of a better life. Three years later, whilst travelling down a lonely road in a forest, Sade was ambushed by four theives. The clothes they wore were the same as the costumes the theives had worn when they pillaged Graata. These theives seemed to recognise him as well and instantly were intent on destroying him. However, Sade seemed to have a natural ability and beat three of them with ease. Like a coward, the fourth jumped just as Sade was off guard and shoved a knife into his back and ran off. Luckily the thief's knife had not hit his spine, otherwise he'd have been done for. He pulled the knife out and examined it, the crest of the Kelost Monarchy was on the pommel. It suddenly all made sense; Kelost wanted rid of all rebels, Graate was full of people (including Sade's family) in favour of the Ramza Battalion, and it was a well known fact. He swore that every single thief and spy sent from Kelost to kill him would be destroyed without question. Nothing could make up for the death of his family, so he may as well send a message to the Kelost Empire that he was not happy. That night, he bandaged his wound, which was still bleeding. He did not get a wink of sleep.. he was up all night thinking about Graate, and missing everyone he'd known desperately. But he knew that he was going to avenge them someday. Sade has been wandering the land, without a map, to this day.
