"Chibi" is a Japanese word. It's generally used to say that something's a smaller form of the original, or most people who read manga will call the little SD (or Super Deformed) caricatures that the artist sometimes draws in a little article they write in their book a chibi. I do believe it literally means "pipsqueak" or something like that, but I'm not entirely sure. But that's what it's usually used for.

^_^ Chibi also means "Baby", to an extent...

However, in anime and manga, any character with really big eyes on their really big head, standing on their really big feet, all held together by a really tiny torso is considered Chibi.

(Chibi Trunks from DBZ is more of the baby definition)

I believe that picture was drawn by Sara....maybe I'm hallucinating or something. Chibi, in anime terms, just means small, or child. They're usually depicted by huge eyes, no nose, small face, and...small body. O_o.

IIRC (from the book on anime I have) the picture that .hack//IZUAL posted would qualify as a Super Deformed character because the head is about 1/3 of the entire character. I forget where the line between Chibi and SD actually is.

Well, after reviewing the book I have I am still no closer to knowing which category this pic fits into. :grumble: According to the book Chibi is a character with a childish look and Super Deformed is one that has a very large head. This picture has both.

Somebody is trying to mess with what little sanity I actually have left. :modrod: :cussing:

if you want to i think you should PM this girl named "Bandit Joeykuba". Im pretty sure she'll give you a lond explaination about that topic of what a chibi is.
I take it you read about the Chibi Dance?

Also... bear in mind not to call people "Chibi" in the real world... its rather offending when someone calls you runt, midget, pipsqueak, etc. etc. isn't it?
Not to me, in fact, I wouldn't mind being called a chibi myself! WHEEEEEEEEEE! CHIBI-NESS! *does the Chibi Dance*

Anyways, back on topic, chibi does mean "small" in most cases. In the case of Chibi Trunks, "chibi" means young or baby.

LoL yep thats the first thing that came to my mind. I already knew what it was cause it even makes sense in the english language as well, but i thought we should get an expert opinion from it lol.

P.S. I also tried out the dance.....runs around doing the chibi dance.
