GinnyLyn
I've applied to Elfwood, which is a online community all about sharing and talking about art and fiction. I must have four original (re: non-fan) artworks, so here is my first two stabs at submissions. (I have a few other backups, so if these don't work out, it's ok.) First up is the Mountain Unicorn I call "Brokehorn". I started doodling a young deer, then gave it the three horns, and it suddenly morphed into a mountain creature. http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/elementis/unihorn.jpg The other I've been laboring over all day, color wise, but it isn't working out, so here is the inked line version of the zebrahorn. http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/elementis/zebrahorn.jpg What do you think? eleanor
I like them both! ^_^ I really like the shading you did in the first one, especially the background. The animal look very nice as well, I like the design. I don't like the second one as much as the first, but it's still very good. The ink is good, and the design is very detailed, so...it's really good! lol. Nice job, as usual.
TheShinje
Impressive, they are well drawn and well shaded 9the first one) I can't find anything I don't like about them ^_^ I like the mountain creature one most because of it's 3 dimensional background and look. I like the Zebra type one because of it's jungle like background and t4he way the Zebra creature is positioned in the scene. well done ~_^
Mitch
This reminds me...someone on my LJ friend's list posted about their name being unicorn bracelet. They said that the only thing that makes a unicorn a unicorn is its horn. And if it would lose that, then it would no longer be considered different than a horse. It would be normal. As for the drawings. Amazing as always.
KKC
Wow! Those are very great! I love the Mountain Unicorn. They both are well drawn. The Zebra looking one's horn is a bit odd and the hair on its neck is also odd, but still very cool. I love them ^^ Mountain Rating: 10/10 Zebra rating: 9/
Sandy
Horsies!! :D Of course they both are great, as always in your case, but I , too, would suggest you concentrate on the zebrahorn more. The hair at the base of the horn makes it look flat, so I suggest you add more 3D-feeling to it. :D Also, the Mountain Unicorn's nose is a tad too doggy-like (unless it's meant to be.) Well, consider these pointers, that's all! :D Jumps off singing *horsies horsies horsies...*
klinanime1
Wow. The shading and texture is superb. How much time did you spend on these?
Mina
Wow...! That is beautiful! My sister would worship you, Ginny. She loves unicorns.^-^ The best I could do was this
GinnyLyn
The Zebrahorn took about an hour (sketching and inking), and Brokehorn took about two, methinks. (I was watching my favorite show at the same time, so it's hard to gauge.) Cute, Mina! I think I saw that in the Digimon forum. =) I'm going now to make the Narhorn and maybe a dragon or gryffon. See y'all in a bit and thanks for your input! EDIT OK, this wasn't exactly what I had in mind for the Narhorn. http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/elementis/aquamoon.jpg She is actually more of a orca than a narwhal, for obvious reasons. *kind grin* Because D&D already took the name "Aquahorn" (and because Aquahorn could cover several of the water unicorns I am making), this one ended up being named "Aquamoon". She's also pregnant. ^^; Don't ask me how that happened. It's like I say about writing or drawing...one thing leads to another and it's written/drawn itself before I realize it. Her stomach is sticking out slightly, and I hope to draw her baby soon. Final thoughts: this drawing looks much better IRL. My scanner has been rather nasty as of late, and I don't care too much for how I drew the background cave. And you can't see the details I really like, like how her mane is floating in the water, but sticking to her neck out of the water. Ah well. ^_^ Comments? Mina
She's very pretty. She also looks right for a pregnant Narhorn(?). Hope to see her baby soon, more of your cute art.^^ Edit: She's in water and she looks great! I can never draw water! Heh, if you didn't live five states away, I'd track you down for lessons.^^
GinnyLyn
Cute? :twitch: Part of the reason I broke away into the Final Fantasy style. Aw well, this next one definitely is cute, so...^_^ http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/elementis/newmoon.jpg Say hello to Newmoon, Aquamoon's baby. And yes, that is Aquamoon in the background. *happy smile* After this, I might drift into the woodland/mountain background again. I still need some practice on water. ephemeral
Very good pictures! I like the animals, they're really original and well-drawn! ^_^ I like the third on a lot, I think it's cute.
KittyLynn
Nice pictures! I absolutely love the first one...*adds to Cage Of Ginny's Drawings and Etc..* ^^;; You did them very well. ^^ Keep drawing mystical creatures. Your good at them (and about everything else) -Kitty
Shaun
Oh! I Love these! They have that old greek mythology feel to them, yet in a more...modern sense. I love these!
Mina
Cuties!! They're adorable..though Aquamoon's not all there. Awesome job on the shading, how do you do it?
Roxie Faye
Absolutely fabulous, Ginny! I say, you'll have no trouble getting into Elfwood at all. Don't they make you take a rules test, too, or something? (but you'll do fine on those, too) The last one took me a while to distinguish between the mother and the head of the child, but I can tell it's the evil scanner. ¬_¬ Were you watching Digimon in when you drew the very first pic (from your first post)? The bracelet on its leg looks an awful lot like Parrotmon's arm band, and Gatomon's tail ring. ^_~ (Not that that's bad, it's really cool. Just wondering...)
Sara
Those are great, Ginny. Brokehorn, especially, strikes me as being different from the cute style you're trying so desperately not to be associated with. Again, with Brokehorn...Good job, shading the backgrounds so the subject stands out more. But then, you know all that artistic stuff, and don't need to hear it from me. ^_~ What's the symbol on his..er...leg-thing...look like? And what's the term for that? >_< The "zebrahorn" I don't like as much. While the concept is cool (I've always liked non-classic unicorns. *smiles*) I guess I don't think that picture does it as much justice as the mountain goat and orcas do theirs. While it's a good picture, (nice job on the flowers, by the way) the background takes away from the subject, maybe just because of the leaf lines going every which way. Also, the shape of the face makes me think of a striped horse more than a zebra. Not that I really know much about the anatomy of either. Darken the nose, for one...and zebra manes stick up. While both points may have been intentional (I hardly know, heh) if you're going to make a zebra-unicorn, you may as well go all out. Also, the horn itself is almost painfully simple--there's a lot of fun stuff you could do with that. The picture as a whole makes me think of a suncatcher or some other piece of stained-glass stuff. The lineart, I guess, and the fact that it's...self-contained? Is that the word I'm looking for? So that's cool. As for Aquamoon...I'll admit I winced at the name. It seems like something I would have come up with when I was little, and just putting pretty words together to come up with pretty names. It's the "moon" that did it, I think. I really like the picture, though. I love the way you shaded the water, heh. And good job on the waterfall. As for the creature herself...great job. She looks...well, like an orca turned into a unicorn. Good shading, as usual...I would darken some aspects of the rocks/cave(?) a bit more, to give it a little more depth...round the rocks at the edge, and make the stalagmites darker. Can we see a larger image? I somehow have difficulties believing that this is it's largest form. (Then again, I am on a different computer, and *everything* looks smaller than it normally is.) Newmoon~ We get a close-up of the waterfall, heh. Yay! I like the crest around his (her?) not-a-horn. Are his ears different from Aquamoon's? Newer, and smaller, obviously, but they look less...aquatic. He looks...chunkier, or something, than I would expect for a baby. I thought there'd be more smooth lines, I guess. The legs are sort of throwing me off... I mentioned it before, but I've always (well, not always, always, but since fifth grade, always) liked unicorns that didn't really look like...well, unicorns. So I have a special fondness for these pictures (and a slight jealously that you posted such animals first, heh.) I'm acutely wishing I had my sketchbook with me on this "vacation," because ever since I saw this topic, I've been going nuts wanting to draw more and various unicorn-creatures. *zebra, zebra zebra--ooh! GIRAFFE!! heh* Great job, Gin. *grins* ...Dare I ask for color, or are you the only one allowed to do that in this forum? ^_~
GinnyLyn
Color was attempted on the Zebrahorn and failed miserably. ^_~ Three hour attempt and I finally threw it in the e-garbage can. As for the fully graphite ones, I daren't touch them--I'm so afraid of losing their effect. As for the names--*shrug*--they come, and I don't judge. I prefer the name of my orca dragons, which are known as Draaquas. *grin* Thanks all! Now I just sit back and wait for my next inspiration...I feel griffonish today.
