Best 3D Zelda Game

I don't think anyone's talked about this recently, if at all, so please forgive me if there's already a thread about this. I was wondering what your favorite 3D Zelda game was. Personally I like OOT. It was the first 3D Zelda game and for some reason, it feels more like the original 2D Zelda games than MM or WW(well it feels that way to me anyway).

First of all, awesome avatar, Xeemo. Clockwork Orange is a great film.

Now, I prefer the NES original over any of the sequels, but if I had to choose between the recents...

WW over OOT, simply because it has more of a feel of the original Zeldas. The item selections in OOT really turned me off. I mean, Golden Gloves? Power Bracelet is the only strength-enhancer that's worth having. Golden Gloves just gave the game too much of a superheroey feel. I half expected to see a Silver Cape that could deflect bullets.

Another negative for OOT was the restriction. I didn't feel like I was in a vast world when playing it. The game didn't feel epic. LoZ, though, the world was huge. The world in WW was huge, too. OOT made me feel stuck.

I remember in the original, to get from one side of Hyrule to the other took around 25 minutes, fighting a whole slew of enemies on the way. In OOT, it took 5 minutes with minimal baddie encounters. In this comparison, WW is closer to OOT, but the freedom of environment in WW takes the cake.

I do not mean to open up a tired argument with my next point and I hope nobody does, but here goes.

The look of WW fit in more easily with the series. OOT's portrayal was too serious and dark. LoZ was all about cartoons. Link, Zelda, Ganon, Zora...cartoons and caricatures, no proportionate bodies or realistic features. We were playing a cartoon in the original and it was very nice to see WW come back to that cartoon.

Sorry, Poisontongue, I don't mean to pick on you--I'm just responding to you. ;)

OK, sticking only to the 3Ds here, and it's hard to choose, really.

I [i]loved[/i] the look of Wind Waker, yes, but that's pretty much where the love stopped. Most of the puzzles were tired and old, and my complaint was that there was a serious deprivation of dungeons, overcompensated by a far too large overworld. If there was at least enemies to slay by the handful, all that sailing around wouldn't be so bad. As it was, I could start Link going in one direction, run off to the bathroom, check on my laundry, microwave some popcorn, come back upstairs, and Link would [i]still[/i] not be wherever I wanted him to be. (And this is [i]with[/i] the warping, argh.) OK, some exaggeration there, but not by much.

I fell in :love: with OoT, and no one can sway me otherwise. ^_^ Names are nothing--"A rose by any other name..." So let's call the Golden Gloves the "Tooty Fruity Fresh N Fruity Citrus Arm Deodorant Sprayers and Stone Lifters" for all I--wait, no. On second thought, don't do that. Anyways, names are irrelevant; Link is a Hero, end of story; it's the way of Japanime stuff--you're always going to have whacked out names for attacks/items/weapons/whathaveyou.
Plus the fact that there was something very satisfying about OoT. Too dark? Have you forgotten about the Dark World from LttP? Mmmm, now [i]that[/i] was dark. Adventurers being turned into critters or inanimate objects for being stupid.

Majora's Mask was...well, I felt it was a slide back to the kiddy nature of the earlier days. You spent all your time as Kid Link, for one. The search for the masks, for another. The transformation masks were keen, and finding all of them was a complete pain in the arse (so were some of the puzzles).

OK, so Oot, MM, and WW. That's my personal, allowable opinion.

[color=indigo]Why in such a hurry to get places? I highly enjoyed the sailing aspect of TWW, and how it actually took you quite a while to get across the overworld. I would've liked some more big islands, sure, but I found sailing around pillaging the platforms and dredging up treasure to be just as fun as simply walking across the overworld of OOT and encountering all of five enemies on the way. Even with the sparse amount of enemies in TWW's overworld, it's still at least as many as in OOT. (Unless you count those enemies that just keep coming back, no matter what, like Stalchildren and Leevers).

I will agree, however, that the game did suffer from a lack of dungeons, just like MM. Still, for the ones they had, the storyline kept me actually [i]wanting[/i] to go to each new one. I found myself enjoying the dungeons as much or more than the stuff inbetween the dungeons, on the overworld/islands--the complete opposite of MM. (I think OOT was kind of in the middle, in that regard).

As for the thing about how dark they were, I actually didn't find LTP's Dark World to be all that dark. Sure, the storyline was sort of dark, but when you're actually walking around it doesn't look any less fairytale-ish to me than TWW. It's just in 2D instead of 3D. (I mean, really; you go to a place called the Lake of Ill Omen, and what do you find? A giant fish thing that gives you the Quake Medallion when you toss a rock at it).

I found OOT to be the darkest in the series, though mainly because of the more realistic graphical style. I thought the storyline was a little darker than LTP's, but not much; it was mainly the graphical style, in my opinion, that made it seem so much darker than LTP. And in that regard, I think they did a good job. I loved OOT, and the Shadow Temple actually kind of creeped me out, yet still made me want to keep going to find out what was at the end. That's an effect not many games have had on me.

Majora's Mask was sort of a cross between OOT and LTP for me. On one hand, the storyline is kind of dark with the whole apocalyptic moon thing and Majora's Mask, yet on the other hand the whole thing with the Skull Kid and the Four Giants seemed more lighthearted to me. And again, as Ginny kind of said, the graphical style is the same as OOT's, but the graphics themselves lend more to a less-serious feel with the Happy Masks and all the weird stuff with the people you help. (The Link being a kid thing was pretty much for storyline purposes, I think. I don't think that has much to do with the feel of the game, at least for me personally, though I did prefer the taller Link in OOT).

And then, of course, you have the completely non-serious, cartoony look and feel of TWW, with just a bit of dark storyline. I'll say right now that I absolutely love the graphical style of TWW, and it reminded me a lot of LTP. (Always a good thing, seeing as it's my favorite in the series). After the really series OOT, and pretty serious MM, trekking (or sailing, as the case may be) through TWW's cartoony word was a very welcome change. And, like I said, it felt more like LTP and the pre-OOT Zeldas, which I also liked. A darker game such as OOT is nice once in a while, but for the most part, I think the more fairytale-ish approach suits the series better.

So, if you couldn't tell from the last six paragraphs, The Wind Waker is my favorite out of the three 3D Zelda games so far. Ocarina of Time follows three spaces behind, with Link's Awakening and Oracle of Seasons between it and TWW on my favorite list. Majora's Mask, sadly, falls into second-to-last place on the list, though not because of anything talked about above. (It's almost all because of the [expletive deleted] time limit).

I could go on about each game for hours, comparing them to one another in tons of different ways, but I'll stop now. :toothy:[/color]

Out of all the 3D Zelda games my favorite are Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker. Ocarina of Time has a lot of different places to travel to and I love how you get to see what happens in the future. As for Majora's Mask I always get an exciting feeling when playing it and when you run out of time you can always go back and redo everything while at the same time adding more things to your list of things to do.In Wind Waker I agree with Desbreko. It's fun to sail the ocean when trying to get to a certain island. Or just finding new islands you haven't explored yet. I like to keep a look out for treasure at the bottom of the ocean when I'm sailing.

Mine would have to be Ocarina of Time. OOT had a great storyline, and in my opinion, was the greatest game Miyomoto ever did. I didn't mind the cel-shading in TWW at all, i thought it was quite cute. But that's the thing, cel-shading is quite cute, while polygons are realistic. However, the graphics aren't the reason.
I got a different feel for the game OOT. I can't explain it. I love the game. Even though it was the average hero saves the princess story, this game brings that to the top. In The Wind Waker, i didn't get that same feeling. It felt like just another game even though it wasn't. OOT is special.
I'd prefer OOT's storyline over TWW, OOT's graphics, and its world. TWW's The Great Sea was too big for a ocean invested world. I just wonder if they made TWW set in Hyrule, it would be a much greater game, and it probably would outbeat OOT.

[spoiler]I think it's established in WW that it is Submerged Hyrule. When you look at the map, it's very similar to the layout of OOT. Though WW's names escape me, the aerial messengers' lair is in the exact place as the Goron Death Mountain home and is very much a similar shape. The Korok village/sanctuary bears strikingly similar resemblance to Kokiri village of OOT. The names here should be big flags that we're in Hyrule, too. Korok...Kokiri...forest spirits...Great Deku Tree...

Actually, I'm pretty sure the game has a heavy emphasis on the Flooded Hyrule history. The underwater castle can't be mistaken for anything other than OOT's Hyrule castle. And, the stained glass windows in the Master Sword's resting place are images of OOT's sages. Safe to say we're in Hyrule when we're playing WW.[/spoiler]

Why are people naming all three 3D Zeldas as their favorites? They're are ONLY three in the first place!! lol Whatever though.

I can understand not liking the transformation and time problems...but saying this was a slide back to the kiddy nature? What exactly does that mean?

The only thing you've said to support that is you playing as child Link. Link doesn't even talk as it is, he is what you make him. It doesn't really affect the story, especially considering Majora has one of the better ones in the series. To just have a problem because it's a child Link seems really odd to me.

Majora is still the darkest game in the series, and in my opinion, the best. I don't understand the general dislike for it.

[color=indigo]I agree; Link being a kid didn't affect how much I liked the game at all, and MM did seem to have the darkes storyline and world to me. The one and only reason why I dislike it as much as I do, really, is the time limit. Other than that, I thought it was great, but one of my most-hated things in video games are time limits. So having a constant time limit really put me off from it. The time-based events were cool, though. I'd like to see more things like that in the future.[/color]

When I said if it was placed in Hyrule, I meant an all land Hyrule. Not the sea. The Great Sea was a nice change, and a different experiance, but i still like the hyrule in OOT better.
MM to me was like a regular sequal. The game itself was good, I just didn't like the storyline. This is what i fear for TWW2. Even though its going to be cel-shaded, graphics aren't what the main problem is. I'm afraid the storyline for Tww2 will not live up to the first. Then again, who knows. It could pull a fast one on us and dominate.

I love Wind Waker. I love the archipelago idea. I love the puzzles. The storyline isn't bad. And the fighting is better than it ever has been. The only thing I really dislike about it is the animation. I mean, I like the cell shading and everything, I just didn't like the cartoony look. So it is not my favorite.

Majora's Mask was my least favorite because the dungeons were extremely annoying and having to do everything in three days kind of pissed me off, too. However, I did enjoy the masks and how you could turn into a goron or a zora or a deku or whatever. I also liked how there was some of the same music as there was in Ocarina of Time and you could use the songs to manipulate the short amount of time you had to do stuff. But this game is not my favorite.

My favorite 3D Zelda game is Ocarina of Time obviously and I'll tell you why. The storyline, for one thing is far better than the others. The music is better and the use of the ocarina rather than the conductor's baton. I love Hyrule. Hyrule is so awesome because there are so many different races of people and places to go. Let's see...there's the forest, the desert, Death Mountain, theres a water place(Zora's Domain), there's a farm, there's a lake,and there's two towns and a castle. Perfect. And unlike Termina, there are different ways to get to these places, like by teleporting with your ocarina and there are doors in each area where you can go directly to another area. For instance, there is a door in the goron place on Death Mountain that takes you directly to the forest. And you can dive down into a pool of water in the forest and you'll end up right in lake Hylia. I also like this game because it isn't cartoony, it is more serious than the others, but at the same time it has some funny parts too like when all the Gorons tried to hug Link and he ran away screaming.(That cracks me up every time I see it.)

So that is why OOT is my favorite.

My favourite 3D Zelda Game is the one where Link is a mercenary and he goes crazy for about half of the game because he finds out that he's just a clone of Ganon, and about halfway through it Zelda (the last remaining princess) is killed by Ganon. Also Link has to try and stop Ganon from summoning a giant commet to come and... Oh wait... oh crap. (Stupid stupid stupid dwarf!)
