Finished the series. They built up the story so much, that I was kinda disappointed at the ending. The story plot is so damn good that I was really kinda er...sketchy of the ending. But it is still Highly recommended to watch this.

out of 5...

* * * * and half.

Quality=====out of 10

Animation: 8

CHaracter development: 9

Story: 9

Ending: 7

Plot: 9

In the end, it's pretty good. It's worth the money, and well, good for a collection.

If you like the mystery/NGE/samurai feel, you'll like this.

Yes, everyone whos seen Gasaraki always complains about the ending...

They just spend soo much time working on the story, that alot of other things are left out. Theres so many characters that werent developed...

Anyways, I myself havent seen the whole thing. I'm up to the second DVD.. U_U

So many DVDs to watch still! U_U;;

Has anyone else ever seen this series? What do you think of it?

I picked up the first tape (four episodes) at my library and watched it today. All I can say is that it has the strangest mix of genres I have seen. At first it takes on the form of a sci fi mecha movie, then quickly changes to a fantasy, then back to a sci fi.

I will say that it is a very well done anime, and some of the world events have a shocking similarity to how the U.S. dealt with Iraq (even though this title predates 2000, IIRC).

has anyone heard of this anime? i just rented the first 8 eps and watched 4 of them but i cant watch the rest tonight cause i got other work to do. So far ive gathered that there was some sort of supernatural test that caused some sort of massive explosion and the UN thought it was a weapons test so they are trying to ivade and take over the country where it happend but when they tried to take the capital all their forces where destroyed mysteriously and a private company has loaned the Un forces TA or Tactical Armor a sort on walking talk that totaly outrank any other form of tactical attack platform. So has anyone else seen it? anyone know how many episodes there are total?

Yep, I have seen it before too. I made a post about awhile back, but nothing came of it.

I find Gasaraki to be very genre-confused. It skips between a fantasy storyline and sci-fi fight scenes. Other then that I really enjoyed it. Perhaps the most disturbing thing was how the story for the Belgestan (or however it is spelled) war seemed to mirror some of the recent events with the wars America has been waging.

I believe there are the standard 26 episodes, spread across about 5 or 6 tapes. Just be careful to follow the plot twists, or else you are bound to get very lost in many ways.

I was wondering if anyone here has watched any of this show. I donwloaded all the episodes but have still yet to watch it (for about two years now.) So, I was just wondering if anyone really enjoyed or disliked the show. Also, is it anywhere near NGE level?

P.S. Hi Sarah!!:blush:

I've heard of Gasaraki, but haven't seen it. If I recall correctly, it was directed by Ryusuke Takahashi, the same man who also directed RahXephon (a more recent mecha series).

The general consensus seems to be that its plot is one giant muddle. To quote an Amazon.com reviewer, "Gasaraki divides viewers into fervent partisans and furious detractors."

If you're looking for a show that can hold its own against Evangelion, watch RahXephon. It's among the best series I've ever seen, period--and I've yet to speak with someone who dislikes it.

I have seen all episodes of it, and really enjoyed it. The strangest thing about it is the fact that it is very genre confused. The basic plot is fantasy mixed with mystery, but it is also big on the mecha fight scenes.

The plot is much like the one in Boggiepop Phantom in the respect that you have to watch the whole thing in order to make any real sense of what they are trying to get at.

Simply put, I would be sure to watch a few episodes to see if you like the basic tone of it before diving headfirst into the series.

How is that spam? I was on topic. Do you mean like, writing short replies like that?

Yes, that it what I mean. It is good that you are on topic, but you are not really put any effort into your posts. If you look at the rules on post quality, you'll see what I mean. Just look around the forums at all of the members and how their posts are constructed. Pretty nice, eh?

I've seen this series as well as EVA, and enjoyed both so much that I bought the dvd collections of both.

Gasaraki is a superb series, its deep (if confusing) plot is incredible, as are the characters and animation. The mechs in this series are even pretty realistic (well...the TAs and FAKEs at least, not the Kugai). A lot of people complain about the confusing plot and usual slow pace of action, but if you are a big fan of dark anime dramas, the this is almost the definitive one for it.

But a warning - this is ONLY for those who like dark dramas, not those Excel Saga or Tenchi afficionados, unless you're a drama AND comedy fan - like me.

So, give the series time and you might find it facinating...or else you will just find it boring and/or confusing...that's actually an occasionally heard comment about EVA in fact, so it's up to your own tastes.

What has being said is true, it is a great series. Confusing and very quick in some spots and slow in others, yet if you like the first couple of eps, you will like it.

After recently buying the Gasaraki box set, I'm about halfway through the show. So far I have mixed feelings about the series--I'm strongly impressed by the realism and level of detail evident in everything from the mechanical designs to the technobabble, but the main character comes across as being sort of bland. The strange thing about this is that many members of the large supporting cast are surprisingly well developed; even Yushiro's brothers are somewhat easier to understand than him. It doesn't really help when Yushiro gets paired off with Miharu, who would make the perfect foil for someone more impulsive and hot-tempered than he.

On the plus side, Gasaraki's English cast is excellent and features many of the same people who also ended up working on RahXephon (Chris Patton and Monica Rial play the two leads). I'm not always drawn to mecha anime that emphasize the political/military aspect of things, but Gasaraki's director seems to have done a good job of incorporating the mystical and supernatural elements which are characteristic of the Eva/Rah sub-genre.

I've heard (i havent seen this anime yet but probably am going to buy it soon) that this is one of the best animes out there. I've also read up on just the first episode and it seems like an enjoyable anime. Plus if a lot of the english voice cast from RahXephon is also in Gasaraki just like Dagger said, then this makes me want to purchase it even more. With that in mind though, what type of anime does this sort of relate too? I know its a mech-type of anime but is it similar to any of the other mech-type of animes out there?

Gasaraki is reminiscient of Evangelion, Argentosoma, RahXephon, Soukyuu no Fafner and so forth, with a couple of caveats: it's more realistic and somber, and tends to emphasize plot over character development. A big portion of the show deals with political machinations and all sorts of behind-the-scenes scheming--powerful secret organizations abound, and it can be difficult to figure out where the characters' loyalties lie.

The animation is pretty strong for a production from late 1998, and the art (with character designs by the same person who worked on Argentosoma and Witch Hunter Robin) appeals to me, although not everyone will like it.
