The Downside of Anime (+)

You know what makes anime extremely flawed? The fact that it is released in another country first. Yeah, I sound selfish, petty, arrogant, etc., but that's what I was aiming for. It's selfish and arrogant, isn't it? I think it is...

So, I ask: what is wrong with (some) people who have seen an anime before it's release in the US? All of a sudden, they act as if they have become gods, or have accomplished something great simply by completely watching an anime that other domestic persons are still scratching their heads about. Yeah, watching... they are real heroes, aren't they? Geez...

What is bothering me in particular is the blatant disregard of spoilers in the .hack//SIGN forum. It would be a different story if a few spoiler tags were put, but even then, their arrogance annoys me. When someone asks a question like, "What do you think will happen," I doubt they are asking for an answer that spoils the story. Simply, they wanted people's input on what's happening, and what they think will happen. Instead, we get, "Oh, everybody shut up with your wrong ideas and theories. I am god, and I have seen the future (of the series)! I shall tell you what's right, and kill all chance of future discussion or debate." In all honesty, what does spoiling the story and killing discussion give these people? A sense of accomplishment? They watched and anime and saw the ending before some other people... Woo-hoo, you win a Nobel Prize.

When you watch an anime (or anything for the first time) and there's a surprise twist or some ambiguous future that just floors you the first time you watch it. You don't expect it, and it gives you a feeling. When you go back and watch it, you remember how you felt the first time you saw the scene: the atmosphere it puts you in the first time around, the mood you were in, etc. Getting that part spoiled for you takes that away, and that's a big piece of the entertainment factor, you know? But what does it give those people who spoil it for you? Yeah, nothing, except maybe 5 seconds to feel like they are great.

I know this "spoil" thing doesn't apply just to anime, but it's more present in anime than anything, IMO. When I'm going to see a movie, the MOST I usually hear is, "Oh, you'll never guess the ending!" That's fine with me. When you see a series that's being released in your area first, where are the people who ruin it? That's right: these spoiler personnel are silent and (thankfully) useless.

Comments and condolences welcome. :D

You think you've got it bad? What about us over here in the UK. Not only do we get everything last (well most things) i.e. anime, films, tv, games, consoles etc etc... but then the lact of anime over here! There have been about 15 animes shown (and I have done alot of channel hopping (I have cable too!)) since I started watching anime about two years ago. Most are shown once and never again and others are repeated to a point its not funny (They only seem to repeat the best episodes to which makes them some of the worst because youve seen them so many times!)
Anyway yes you can go and buy anime and everything (even here) but I'm not made of money.

 Wow, AzureWolf. You did that all in one breath. Coooooool! (Yes, I am crazy)

At the very least people posting spoilers like that does have one advantage, it allows others to participate in the All-American sport of *****ing. :D

As I stated in some other post, advanced spoilers do not bug me too much, just so long as the "How and Why" are not answered. Hearing the ending in long-winded, image-shattering descriptions does tend to piss me off.

(rant mode on)
I agree with you that hentai is seriously messed up, and I wish that it didn't exist: it's sick, disgusting, an embarrassment to those of us who DON'T watch it, has led to actual crimes against women and children (admittedly by viewers who are mentally messed up, but then again, to actually enjoy hentai you must be mentally messed up somewhere) and it's something I can say I'm 100% against.

However, anime doesn't get you into hentai any more than Hollywood movies make you want live-action porn.

Although hentai is available enough online if you want to find it (digression: something I really want to applaud OB and theotaku.com for, at least here the mods and owners here do a very good job of maintaining a site that doesn't contain, promote, or encourage either original or fan hentai) it is YOUR responsibility not to get into hentai. It is your choice whether to buy that DVD, not to click that link, etc.

I'm sorry, but I'm just sick of seeing people blaming other things for their perversion and irresponsibility. It's your fault. Deal with it, if you refuse to deal with it, live with it, but at the least-take responsibility for it!
(rant mode off-someone must have stepped on some pudding ~.^)

Uh-oh....

Anyway, now that this thread covers two topics, I'll post on each...

Guys & gals, it's not just anime that has these people; every hobby/profession/art has those arrogant creeps who think they know all about the medium, and you just wanna' slap 'em a few times....

But you can't, mostly b/c there are laws and stuff. My advice? Ignore them, and report them if they don't use spoiler tags.
I love using spoiler tags!
As for hentai...ech. First, I'm going to say that nine times out of ten, it's the female otaku who are vocally opposed to it. (By which I mean they make a point of saying they are opposed to hentai.) I guess nine girls somewhere must have spoken up, because I'm also opposed to hentai.

Why? Several reasons: it's disgusting, it's unhealthy, it leads to negative stereotypes of otaku, it degrades the medium of manga and anime, it's inherantly stupid and it creeps me out.

(American comics might not be on par w/ Manga, but at least there's no American comic equivilant to hentai.)

However, the First Amendment being what it is in my country, I cannot say that hentai should be banned. Just don't expect me to support you if you go reading it. XP

I don't mind spoiler tags that much either. As long as they aren't very descriptive, I am fine with them. As for hentai, I think that is is nasty, downright perverted, and an embaressment to all of us(anime fans). A lot of people are startung to think that everyone who is a fan of anime/manga must be a fan of hentai. I hate that false accusation. This is true. A lot of these kind of people go to my school. It really annoys me!!!

Auzerwolf, The US releases a new episode of lets say, TeenTitans. Do you think we would give it to Japan so that they can air it at the same time we do, or maybe even before we do. Sure Japanese anime is more treasured. But the principle of it stays the same.
*I do share your pain* ::crying::
