Dan Rugh
I haven't seen a topic like this so I decided to make one. Welp (yes I meant to type welp), what is your gaming genre preference? What games do you think are the best represented of these different types of games? Are you the Adventure type? Do you enjoy traveling with Link through forests, collecting anything that could possibly be collected and slashing down some enemies at the same time? Or perhaps you like the Fighting genre. Can't take a few days without smashing a few heads in Mortal Kombat? Find yourself longing the day that Soul Calibur II comes out? Platformers fit your taste? Who doesn't love a little old-school Mario action? Dont forget about the Arcade genre. Still playing Pac-Man? Can't wait to get your hands on those Super Monkey Balls? :therock: Are you as addicted to Puzzle games as much as a street-bum is to crack? Asking your parents to take you to Dr. Mario when you're sick? You bought Pokemon Puzzle League for the puzzles, not just to see your favorite cuddlies, right? Or maybe Role Playing Games are your fancy. Do you enjoy taking your party of friends out to search a castle and beat the giant monster boss at the end? Pssst.... Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is on it's way. Racers, you say? Going around in circles at over 100 mph can be fun, huh? Or is it that this is the closest you'll ever get to these expensive-as-hell cars? There's always the First Person Shooter fans. How can you not feel accomplished after shooting a roomfull of guys in their faces? Are you a jock at heart and play a lot of Sports games? This includes the extreme sports games as well. Did you just spout "Totally tubular, dude!" after going off of that jump? :nope: Lastly, do you prefer the Strategy kind of game? Willing to sacrifice great graphics for some commanding and conquering? My favorite genre is definitely the Adventure type of game. The Zelda series has become my favorite series of all time. I also like the Mario, Resident Evil, Megaman (hello game genie), and Sonic the Hedgehog series'. I love fighting games, too. Ever since I played the original Street Fighter at my cousin's house, I've been hooked on punching and kicking enemies into oblivion. How about everyone else?

Spikey
Adventure and RPG's are my favorite of all time. I just love the way they catch you to the game.
Shinmaru
I used to be the biggest RPG fan in the world, until I realized that almost all of them were the same thing (Final Fantasy, ahem). I'm more of an adventure guy myself. With games like Zelda and Metroid Prime (I consider Metroid Prime more of an adventure than an FPS) out there, the Adventure genre has really been given a big boost over the past few years. EDIT - Forgot to mention shooters. I have a soft spot in my heart for shooters. Just flying around and blasting stuff, while trying to retain enough reflexes to avoid tons of enemy fire can get very intense very quickly. Stuff like R-Type, Einhander, etc. will always remain some of my favorite games.
otakukev
I like most genres. I'll play pretty much any game. I probably play RPG's and Adventures the most, tho. The only genre I don't generally like to play is sports. There are a few exceptions, however, like NFL Blitz. I guess I'd have to say my overall favorite is Adventure. OtakuSennen
Role Playing Games. A lot of the time they're like adventures, only the harder you work, the more rewarding the game will be. (Leveling up). Plus, a lot of the time, RPGs are longer than action.. And in a lot of RPGs, you form groups of characters you play as instead of just one hero. And replay value is pretty great, due to the fact that you can always level up. Racers and Shooters and such are OK, if they are done well, but Role Playing Games are always great addictive games that I, for one, can't stop playing.
Semjaza
I would be tired of RPGs if I didn't realize what was out there. FF isn't the final frontier of RPGs, it's not the most original, it isn't the best written. It has a decent amount of good qualities that come together and a nice amount of money to market it, something no other RPG-centric company has in the US. If you're tired of FF, like me, you just have to look around more. I guess I'd have to go with RPGs, PC and console, and their various offshoots. Fallout, Planescape, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate II, Earthbound, Lunar 2, Persona 2, Divine Divinity, Elder Scrolls series, Ultima series, Front Mission 3, Vagrant Story, Lufia, Lufia 2, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Skies of Arcadia, Beyond Oasis, Shining Soul, Shining Force 3, Shadow Hearts, Okage, Thousand Arms, Tactics Ogre, Dragon Warrior series, Ogre Battle 64 and so on. All of which are very different games, I think. Some much better than others. That's only a fraction of what's out there. Other than that... music games. Such as Samba de Amigo, Mad Maestro, Frequency and Gitaroo Man.
Sniglefager
My favorite type of game is platform, because that's one of the more challenging genres. My favorite games for this genre is all the Mario and Sonic games, ecspecially Super Mario Bros. 3. I also like RPG's a lot, even though I really havn't played that many of them except for Final Fantasy.
Desbreko
Well, I don't really have any one prefered genre; more like two. I like action/adventure and RPG about the same. (Playing Star Fox Adventures curently, and after that, going to play Chrono Cross ^_^). I also like the point-and-click type adventure games that you find almost exclusively on the PC. (I did manage to get Discworld II on the PSX, however). Those require quite a bit of thought, and are often also quite funny. After those, I like platformers, but beyond that, I don't really have mach preference. Sports games are the only ones that I really dislike. I've never been much into sports in video games or real life.
Brasil
I'm finicky, I suppose, when it come to genres. I don't have too much fun with sports games, except when the gaming involves Mutant League Hockey style gameplay (kill or score). My favorite sports games are Mutant League Hockey, NFL Blitz, NBA On NBC (an archaic N64 NBA Jam clone), Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey (archaic N64 game), NHL Hitz, and Deathrow. For those of you who don't know of Deathrow, it is simply one of the greatest deathmatch party sports games ever made. Picture Mutant League Hockey 3000-X. That's what Deathrow is. For me, reason enough to get an Xbox. I shy away from platformers because they're too repetitive, especially 3D ones. Jump, collect [insert item here], unlock the gate, defeat the boss, repeat. The only 3D platformer that I was able to totally get into was Mario 64 because it was exciting and fun to play. RPGs bore me for the same reason as platformers. They're repetitive and feature the same thing over and over, no matter how many times you go through the game. I suppose I'm an FPS and fighting game kind of guy. Smash Melee and Timesplitters 2 occupy my Gamecube more than any of my other games. They have immense replay value, especially Melee. No battle is ever the same. I lost my train of thought here, so if I can remember what I wanted to say, I'll edit the post. Otherwise, primarily fighting and FPS.
GhostofSalvtore
Well I would say FPS, but there are some FPS games out there that arent that great, well I like to compare all FPS games to Perfect Dark, if they have that replayability that it did, and so far none of them have. Halo is fun, but after the single player missions thats all you get. The multiplayer is great, my friends and I spend hours and hours coming up with different match types. Even though we only play on 3 different multiplayer maps, Sidewinder, Blood Gulch, and Boarding Action. There is also Hali-Life, which I think was a great FPS game, single player FPS game that is. I never got to play Counter Strike, but I would like to, if I had a comp that could play games other than the Sims. BF'42 is another good game that I would like to play, but I still don't have that comp to play such games. So saying that, I would go with a genre that has never failed me......the sport genre. Well at least NFL sport games, have never failed me, and in that, Madden has never failed me. Every year I get the new Madden, its a must, the roster updates, some new modes, etc. I get to play out the season of my fav team, the Dallas Cowboys, and I win, even though they lose alot these days, but thats another story. NBA games are also really fun, and would be even more so if I would get more into the NBA. So I just play arcady b-ball games like NBA Street Vol. 2. Lately I have been talking about playing an RPG. I have played some RPGs in the past, you could say Pokemon, Secret/Legend of Mana, and some FFs, but I have never really gotten into the whole RPG thing. Until I finally got my hands on KOTOR, which is a superb game, all RPG players and Xbox owners(even tho there are so so few, should go out and buy this game, you wont regret)
