describe the perfect game

Interesting question.

The FPS - I want the weapons from GoldenEye, because there's nothing better than running in the Facility with an AR33. The Perfect Dark Datadyne shotgun is included.

The game engine should be derived from GE or TS2.

I'd want a graphics style similar to Perfect Dark.

The single player campaign should rival GE or surpass it.

The multiplayer is based off of TS2, but has a feel of GE's multiplayer ease.

My perfect FPS controller would be a variation of the N64 controller, because no matter what gamers say, the N64 controller is the greatest FPS gaming tool. Pulling the Z trigger draws me into the game since I'm essentially holding the gun. The dual joystick system does not work as well as the C buttons did, either. I find myself constantly strafing and my aim flies up or is driven into the ground. Using 4 independent buttons to strafe and aim worked wonders.

For the gameplay, I want a solo game. I can never get into an FPS with squad-based action. That's the purpose of a single view screen: to deal with one POV versus the opposition. When I have to worry about if that CPU bot is going to run into that line of fire, I get annoyed.

The story should be something simple and exciting...you play as a mercenary who is hired to assassinate a rebel leader. Not many games have the gamer playing as the villain. It's an angle that should be played up more. Something along the lines of Spy Vs. Spy.

That's about it.

PoisonTongue, you play video games?! Haha, you didn't seem like the kind that would.

I guess by perfect game, you mean what makes a game classic to you? Well, right off the bat, I want full control of my character. That means no RPG nonsense, and no automatic things (except in cut scenes :D). I want to be able to use my character to MY limits. I guess that lowers the categories to fighting games and action/adventure games like Zelda and DMC. After that, I want the game to be challenging. There's not much competition here (meaning no one plays), so I would love the game to be just as challenging as the good ol' 8-bit games of the past.

To be honest, I really think the amount of control you have over your character is one of the most important things in video gaming. I hated how, in Silent Hill 2 (and SH1), you were very limited: it was like you yourself were not human. That also goes for RE games. That's what I'm talking about when I say I want full control and nothing less. Those games had horrible movement/control for your character, so it made them look really sad after DMC stepped in.

Azure, you definitely do not know PoisonTongue.

I like something that has replay power, and a good fighting base. For example: The Bouncer. While most would say "dude, that game sucks!" (direct quote from Alex), I like it. The graphics are classic Squaresoft, the controls are easy to figure out, the story is basically ok...I like how you can go through with the different characters. And the four player fighting option once you've unlocked all the characters is interesting. At family get togethers, I'm constantly whooping the butts of my brother and brother-in-laws.

I like games that you can get several people involved: SSMB, Mario Party, JetMoto, THPS. And considering the fact I could sit and watch people play videos games for hours (which I have done recently at a party with Mr. PT and company), TimeSplitters 2 and Deathrow have awesome watching power. Windwaker was fun, so was Sonic battle. Really, I like stuff all over the map. Whether playing, or watching...I say video games will someday rule the universe.

I really would like to see a game with decent graphics withought the pixels showing in it, and a role-playing game that isn't sure, but is like Dungeons and Drugeons type thing. And I would also like to see a game that has no glitches, I just hate glitches, they make me so mad. And I would like to see a good qualitied plot to it. That would be very nice.

What makes me buy a game, is the reviews on the game and if it's my type of genre. I also like to buy games because it gives me something to do. And Also temptation to see if I can beat the game. I love that challenge, half of the time is no, and half of the time it's yes I can beat it. :)

Before a buy a game, I just hope that it never has glitches, cause in most reviews they don't tell you if the game has possible glitches, that's why that is the only thing I hope it has when I buy it. Because if I didn't know that the game was good I probably wouldn't buy it.

hm... so do u want there to be a button that u press, such as the X on the PS2, that does everything, or something that would cause combos and such? and it sounds like you want a side scroller (is that what they call those games) with upped graphics

PoisonTongue
all i have to say is wow  everything you said is what FPS is all about. You reminded me of the days of Golden Eye:box:

Spikey i think your just going to have to wait till developers actually go throught their games many times to check that and graphics go up

I thought my examples of DMC and Zelda were good enough, but I guess I should clarify.

What I was emphasizing was not "all the actions" of a character, but movement. The movement - what and how your character gets around, both in battle and in transit - is crucial. Remember those old RPGs where a hole in the floor of a room would prevent you from getting a treasure chest? Or how about when people in RPGs are perfectly arranged to keep items or places away from you, without any logical reason?

However, I don't see how you could associate "full control" to a button that does everything for you... O_o
