One, this is a voluntary with draw from other schools.
Two, this "gay school" is only availible to students who are openly gay.

Although I agree with nearly everything you said, I would like to point out that the director of the school said that anyone can be placed on the waiting list for the school, but gay/lesbian/bi/transexual children are given priority. I tdoesn't make it right, but that is what is going on.
You're taking it a bit too far there, Crimson Spider. Gay people's rights are just coming in, and people are still protesting against it. Gays don't have nearly as much rights as straight people do.
While I agree that Crimson Spider's post is incredibly ignorant, I don't think that gays are lacking too many rights (although they should be allowed to adopt kids and recieve marriage tax breaks) I just think that they are heavily persecuted and stereotyped. Although I'm probably mistaken...

I actually don't agree with schools that are based on one gender or one sexuality. But if you agree with schools that segregate based on gender, then you wouldn't be very consistent if you disagreed with a school that is exclusively for homosexuals.

Having said that, I'm not aware of whether or not girls/boys schools receive public money. If they are private, then who cares? If you're a private school, you can do what you like pretty much. You can allow people of only one religion, sexuality, gender, etc...

But if you're a public school, I think you are obligated to treat everyone in the same way. So, schools need to open their doors to everybody and not be exclusive to one group. Well, public schools, anyway.

I agree with HC about it feeding more hate. You don't just seperate people into their own schools because of discrimination that has existed previously. Putting gay kids in their own school isn't going to stop them being picked on by other kids -- it'll probably make things worse. The key is to put both groups together and to encourage understanding and tolerance. You can't do that with segregation.
I seriously doubt you will ever find a public school that could actually get away with segregating by gender. They might recieve some money from government grants, but besides that they are independent. As for this new school for gays, segragation=success?

They might let in some token students that aren't gay, but i'd be shocked if any considerable population of the school was heterosexual. Also, what heterosexual guy would go to a school where he knows he won't have a chance at getting a girlfriend, and vice versa.

Blah why do individuals have to always nic-pic things. If you got what i meant in my reply then fine if not oh well.

Plus like someone said afterwards...you arent born gay you have to choose to be gay. I dont see any other way than saying it that way. If you can think of another way of saying it then ill probably change it, but since i see there isnt really another way of revising it im going to leave it that way.

Atleast I know where to plant the bomb...

I think it is the stupidest thing done in this millenium so far. Being gay is a choice. For whatever reason, a person has to chose to be gay in order to enter a PUBLIC school. That is even more raciest than I am against gays as it is for gays. Why don't they just tax the strait people and pay it to the people who chose to be a ***. If they would quit bi... complaining about everything and how they have no rights because of their choice, even though they do, this wouldn't be a problem. Why don't they have public schools for just black kids, or just Mexicans, or a Europeon/american/mexican mut like me-school. Where would all of the mix people fit it.

A school for Queers... we know who needs to be assassinated now, don't we? The maker of that school, that's who!
You're the biggest idiot I've seen this millenium. Not to mention the biggest biggot, racist, arrogant, ignorant little asswhipe I've ever had the displeasure of ruling over.

1) Please note that this school doesn't reflect the thought of all gay people. If you knew how to read, you would have noticed I have posted quite against this being a public school, and I am gay. It can be a private one, but not a public one.

2) YOU and anyone else, but especially you, have NO idea if gay people choose to be gay or are born to be gay. You are a straight male, what do you know about being gay? Oh thats right, nothing. You don't know a damn thing about being gay. You don't know if I made a choice to be this way. You don't know if I was born this way. You are straight, thats all you'll be. I don't go around saying you were once gay and chose to be straight do I? Of course not you fool. I have no idea why you are straight. I'm not, so I, being at least somewhat intelligent, can figure out that I have no say in the way you live or the way you "choose" to live your life. That would by ignorant and hypicritical of me, but you've already done that for yourself. Moron.

3) They had public schools for just black kids and just Mexicans. Or did you not do your history homework? They were desegrigated in the 60's. Which is precisely why this school cannot and will not ever be a public school.

4) We have just as much right as you. We have every single right as you as a free people. Just because we like the same sex doesn't give YOU the right to tell us how to live or what to do. YOU have NO right to do that. So be a good American, or stupid person, or whatever you call yourself, and shut up cause you just got your A*S handed to you by a big 'ole queer.

Now never let me see anything so prejudice again, this is a board for kids, not the KKK.

Now after digressing quite a bit by wrapping this argument up, I'd like to remind you this is not a topic on gay people choosing to be gay. It is not prooven either way and straight people, no offense to the majority of you, have no right telling us how we came to be who we are. This topic is about a public school accepting gay students only, which is an oxy-moron. Now please, lets stay on topic or there will be no topic. And keep it clean. The example above is what you shouldn't do. You probably shouldn't do what i did either, but things have to be done sometimes. So keep it clean, fun, and meaningful. Not disrespectful, dirty, and a bunch of nonsense or there will be no more topic. Thank you.

This very point is exactly why the concept of an "all gay school" is un-constitutional.

Allowing the school to wiegh the value of any two students based on the students sexual prefference is subjective and not academic at any level.

Providing an institute of minds and perspectives is all important in a college enviroment, but intellectual capabilities and achievments should take presidence over behavioural/lifestyle diversity.

Lots of people must have replied again since I began this, so there is a good chance I will be back.

Till then...

:whoops:

edit:
I noticed the post tn and crimson. :o

What's the point? Do they think that somehow the kids will have an easier life because that they share the same sexual peference? Perhaps there will be some kind of bonding? They better get ready to build nerd schools, geek schools, fat schools and jock schools.

Actually, I rather like the nerd school idea.

There's something that I noticed sorta lacking from all the discussion. How the students will adjust to the world after going to the school.

It was always my (perhaps unfounded) thought that kids that went to a private school would lack in how to deal with the "real world". Such as, if it were an all girl school, you would have a little more difficulty being around guys vs. being around them all the time as the norm in public schools.

So I would think "hiding away" homosexuals in a school will only make it more difficult for all of us to learn to be more tolerant, as have been pointed out. And the fact that there will always be discrimination (sadly, my grandfather is still from the early part of the century, and still holds negative views on anyone not white).

School is preperation for real life, socially, intellectually, working-ly. Or so I've always been told.

Or maybe I am thinking boarding school, not private schools. :drunk:

In any case, saying it's a public school, but "special sexual preference first" (sorry, I...eeks...that's not meant to be offense! honest!) makes my mind to think they want to be private. Which is fine, but still, like I said, would be detreminental to everyone's acceptance health. And if they are letting anyone in, it's not private. No, it makes it just another public school. So how does that make this school any different?

I think the school people need to set down what exactly they are planning to do here, and I think I shall need to read on that, because I feel like there is still something missing out of this (for the most part so far) mature discussion.

PREACH! I agree wit hyou and i'm deffinetly not gay. This fool is being a big time BIGGOT! Your the ****ing ***, CS. Thats not something too say, ever. I mean, just becaues your gay, doesn't make you a bad person. Look at Elton John, (Michael Jackson???), the dude is a knight of the queen of england, some stright people can't even reach that. Oh, and PS- I'm sure you like watching lesbians you freakin' perv.

Man, first it was blacks, now there doing it all over again on gays, why does history have such a bad habbit of repeating itself?

History repeats itself because if someone is different, others feel they don't belong (I've had that problem, cause I like acting weird). I don't understand why people can't get along with people who have a different life style, but unless people change, the world's going to be even worse than it is now...

I guess its because its because some people refuse to learn from the past.

I think the entire idea is completely rediculous. I mean they're trying to solve a problem with discrimination, with segregation.
That plan is flawed from the beginning.

But thats just my opinion:D

You gotta be messin with our minds! A "gays only" public school?
Not much of a "public" school is it?
Also, i feel that could be a VERY bad thing to do, i mean, there will probably be alot of sexual tension there. That could lead to all sorts of things. Im guessing this is a high school? lol?
I mean there could b rapes/sexual harrassment/murder there with only gays.

There was an MTV special on a school like this in texas or something. I think that they should not receive federal money, since that would be unconstitutional... I read somewhere that it is unconstitutional that the government fund any college or somehting that is girls only or guyus only... Public schools, that is, I don't know about private schools.

But I don't see what's wrong with it. It's just another school....With all of the students being gay. I'd love to go there for a week or two just to see how it works.

I dont get that, It's against nature to be gay. It cant be in someone's genes to be gay, they have to choose. You dont see animals that are gay, because they dont really have a thought of their own. Its nature to have children, being gay goes against nature. Im not being homoist or whatever its just common sense
Here we go...

Being homosexual is neither a choice nor a controllable thing. People are born with it. From the time they are alive, they are gay.

Why is it against nature to be gay? Just because "God" says it is? Well, look at it without God. You have nothing, do you? Being gay is nothing less then being born with freckles. It's something you are, and it's something that will always be with you.

And don't you dare say it is common sense, for that is the most homophobic thing you could.

Get it? Got it? Good.

Lets try to stay on topic about schools, not whether being gay is natural or not, or how ignorant people are.

I doubt the school will get anywhere before someone does something about it, there's no real point to it really though, do you see a school allowing only "heterosexual" people?

In any case, I'd rather see the UK law which prevents gay males from getting together until they are at least 18 years old, whereas there is no law for females.
