People ae not born 'good' or 'bad'. They are shaped by their parents and their lifestyle and their friends. What they become depends on their environment. If they are raised in a good environment, have good relationships with their parents, have good friends, then the chances are they'll be good kids. and vice versa.

I'd say people are born people. There's really no such thing as being born good or bad. Not to mention babies don't exactly blow up buildings or save third world countries until their older, right? I'd say their environment shapes 'em, not some unknown power.

Heck, who knows though? Maybe there is something that points fingers at unborn babies and says, " You will crash planes into buildings, have war declared on you and your country, and be completely forgotten about in five monthes."

I agree with Mist. *nods*

People are born people, and it's just human nature that makes them not purely good, or evil. I'm actually more believing in the Yin Yang philosophy, that no one is totally good, and every person is partially good and evil, though they might be more of one.

I agree with Mist, Juu, and Baron. People...they aren't born any certain personality, good or bad. The world shapes them like that. They're just born people.

You COULD bring up the subject of past lives and whether or not that affects the life that you're in now....but let's not get into that.

People are born people. Period.

I beleive that no one person is born evil, but born aggresive or short tempered. Society is the one exponent too be blamed for corruption of the pure being into an evil being. So i think number 2.

You know, us Aethists go to some lengths to not offend Christians, but come on! What planet are you from?

*EDIT* It was a valid point...sorry for the over-reaction.

*blink* I dunno, but I kinda had a feeling he was being sarcastic. oO;

Besides, from a Christian priest, he told me he didn't believe there was a hell at all. He mentioned that God wouldn't send them to be tortured forever just for being human... etc, etc. Besides, in every religion, the basic set of things to follow in order to be a good person aren't rules. Just... guidelines to be a better person.

For one thing, he didn't really address the question. He simply posted one sentence saying that unless you accept Jesus, you're going to hell. He could have answered the question without the inflammatory comment.

You should know that condemning people to hell isn't a very pleasant thing to be doing. ;)

What's so uncivil about my post?

I'm just telling you about stuff from the bible.

When the fall of man happened in the garden of eden, it applied to alll of human kind, and it still applies today. The only way to get back to God is to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour.

I'm not provoking anyone, but merely stating my belief's. If I am to be chased away for stating or having my belief's, then you're right. I'm better off if I don't post here.

EDIT: Wow, fast replies. Anyway, my perception of hell is the second death, where you cease to exist and you are seperated from God forever. No fire and brimstone here. It's just God giving you what you want, to be seperated from him forever.

No, no. Hold on a second.

Firstly, nobody's chasing you off for your beliefs. You can have whatever beliefs you like.

However, the question is essentially "are people born bad?"

Your posts bear little relevance to this question. I can see what you're trying to say, but it would be better for you to answer the question without simply condemning people to hell (which is what your previous post did, in effect).

The point is to ensure that you express your opinion without being unnecessarily provocative. If you think your post wasn't provocative, then there isn't much I can say. lol

It's not hard. You can definitely answer the question without making a sweeping and inflammatory statement. I'm not an unreasonable request.

Fair enough, I must say that my first post was a tad too esoteric.

Let's have a look at it again.

I said, "We are all born unworthy of God and we all deserve to go to hell until we accept Jesus Christ."

When I say, "unworthy of God", what does that make you think? Good or bad?

When I say that "we all deserve to go to hell", what is that emphasizing? Good or bad?

As for the "till we accept Jesus Christ" bit, that was pretty pointless, I guess.

In short, you guys get offended way too easily.

I'm simply saying that it's possible to post your opinion and make it both relevant and not inflammatory. That's all.

I am not offended by what you said (believe me, I've seen more preachy people in my time), but I have an interest in making sure that threads remain on-topic and don't get bogged down by arguments between members. I have that responsibility, whether it's convenient for others or not.

Anyway, that's that. Let's let this thread continue, before it gets bogged down further. If you want to discuss the issue with me, you're welcome to use the PM system.

I have my own philosphy on God and Jesus. I also beleive in angels and a number of the stories. But the bible was still written by a man. And every man is flawed in one way or the other. I find some untruths in the bible. Like if God wanted too create us too worship him, he wouldn't have given us the mental compasisty too find other gods and relegions. I highly doubt that confuciosism and buddhist practioners will burn in hell, because they follow the ten comandments in there own relegion. I also DONT'T beleive that blacks were cursed by god. If this were so, why isn't here stories of the asian or the arabic people. And that if you were your hair long, your commiting a sin or if you marry out side your race. A true God wouldn't care about the details. That is my true philosphy and i beleive it is true. I follow the bible, but i still think that not all of it is true.

Personally, I think that people are just who they will be. Sure, there are definitely influential factors, but still... People will form their own opinions regardless of society. Again, society will have a large influence, but if someone disagrees with something, then they will, regardless of what others think. I just think that people are who they are forever. I rest my (ill-proved) case.
