I love techno, rave and trance. Its sooo cool to me, The thing I like most about it is that you can go to dances play some rave and break dance all night. Its pretty fun, but some people think that the music is repetitive but if you notice it changes slightly every second kinda. Whats your thoughts?

I just can't take techno seriously anymore after going to my school's "Techno Night". Now when I think of techno, I think of having a headache in a room, with a bunch of dancing freaks equipped with mighty glow sticks! AHH! -Yeah?you just had to have been there I guess.

I enjoy the techo remixes of classic songs. It's become my latest musical hobby lately. Finding techno remixes of some old songs. They sound really cool.

As far as mainstream original content, I have a CD from this guy called darude, his music is wicked

Darude is cool, and I guess its just my area thats says "rave" because when I think of techno its kinda more less extreme than "rave" music, and techno usually has more words, and when I think of trance I think of repetitive stuff, and has anyone heard of Jungle?

And there is a remix of an opera song thats kind of cool, I cant think of the name right now but the origanal song name is Conte Partio.

Technically, there are tons of genres for "techno" music, including rave, house, trance, goa, progressive, jungle, acid, hardcore, and about a million others.

I don't prefer the term "techno" myself cause it applies to a WHOLE lot of music styles. But the majority of the people tend to associate it with "dance" hits.... ie: Darude, Ian van Dahl, DJ Sammy, etc etc etc.

I enjoy the trance and the likes. I have tons of CD, even more mp3s of the many artists out there. It's not so much a big thing in America as it is in the rest of the world. It's just NOW becoming something somewhat popular here. Japan just had their "techno revolution" and we're the only ones left to go.

Hopefully people will become better aquainted with trance styles and the likes via a techno revolution, cause right now it seems only pop hits are jumping in. Theres a few true techno artists that have become fairly popular here now. BT, Paul Oakenfold, Pail van Dyk..... Lasgo, 4 Strings, Ian van Dahl, Fragma, Iio, Sylver are all what I'd call techno/dance groups.... ie: they have a singer, lyrics, and a beat that most people can follow. They are very good and i enjoy them, but they aren't trance. And there's alot more than that in the music world that I think America is yet to see. Hopefully they will.

I like Techno, but all the other stuff sounds kinda scary. You go into a rave and you see some freaky, exctacy taking, bald, spikey dudes. I like Daft Punk. There the only real techno band i like. ANd if you have seen there videos, there videos are literally anime shorts. All of them.

^^ Techno is a genre in itself; one that a lot of people haven't heard before, but think they have. If anyone is intersted in hearing it, I recommend Franky Bones, Adam X and Mistress Barbara.

As for a techno revolution, I think that's already past; at least where I live. Seattle had a very booming Rave Scene from the early 90's up untill 2000. Sence then, city ordinances have been put into effect and venues have been shut down, much like what happened in Chicago. The Ministry of Sound is becoming less popular and with the passing of the new "Rave Bill", the rave scene is definetly going to go back underground. The fad has indeed passed. This is my take on things at least.

I'm not much of a techno fan. Most types of techno are great to listen to at parties, where they're played with the volume full-blast, but I don't see any point in ever listening to a techno song any other time. Great for parties, but I'm not exactly gonna listen to a DJ Sammy song while I'm doing my homework or lounging on the couch.

Dude the best techno band would be Orgy. Ive been a big fan of them since they debuted back in '96. Orgy is the shiznit. They combine rock and techno for some of the sweetest songs(i mean like badass not gay).
'Nuff said.

Orgy is not techno. They're what's called "Industrial Rock", like Marilyn Manson. There's a huge difference. But I think they kick *** too! =D

If you like that style of music, you should check out some Japanese Visual Kei bands, a lot of it's a similar kind of music.

No problem. I'm surprised that more people on this board don't listen to Jrock. As for Moby, he's done a lot of Electronic Tracks before, but you won't hear them on MTV. All that stuff is a complety different genre. I think a lot of people just assume that if it has a computer beat to it, it's automatically music you hear at a rave; which you wouldn't, belive me. =D

"Techno" is definitely a term that a lot of people misinterpret. I prefer to say "electronic music". It's a bit wider...it encompasses things like Aphex Twin and Orbital.

There are many, many, many kinds of electronic music. And I would say that most of them don't include the stuff you hear on the radio or in a rave.

Really, most of the music you hear in a rave is designed simply for the very bassy, physical effect. But if you go deeper into electronic music sub-genres, you'll find a lot of unique stuff.

As I said though, my tastes go all over the spectrum. Sometimes I like listening to the silly mainstream trancy stuff. Other times, I like to listen to the really hard, bassy stuff (the kind of bass that other types of music just can't achieve lol) and other times, more peaceful/slow stuff. There's just so much out there.

If you want to sample some of my favourite electronic music tracks, I recommend sampling a few of the following:

GBI - Towa Tei
Windowlicker - Aphex Twin (I always recommend this one lol)
Nothing But You - Paul van Dyk (a new one by PvD...pretty good rhythm as usual with his stuff, but more maintream than the other stuff)
Mama Sweet - Da Hool (kinda weird...but funky)
Disco Science - Mirwais
Dirt - Death in Vegas (awesome video clip for this one)
Southern Sun - Paul Oakenfold (still a favourite, but I don't listen to it much these days)
For an Angel - Paul van Dyk (I had to recommend this one...it's still a classic)

So yeah, there you go. A little sample from my playlist. There are a couple of different kinds of electronic music there. But, there's definitely a whole lot more if you look for it. ~_^

If it's got a doof doof thingy at the back, and isn't too poppishly crappy, I can scream and dance and jump up and down and thrash to it for eight hours solid. I'm a great fan of that kind of stuff, whatever name it goes under, and people make me feel ashamed when I tell them. Harlequin, Butterfly, Jesus Chicken hates techno. I love it, and can't wait until I'm old enough to go clubbing in Australia.

I like Trance music for the most part. The reason I like it cause it sets you in that one mood you want to be in. Its relaxing, at times. At others it makes you want to get active. Trance is good....and I read a few post up about Orgy being Indistrial Rock. Dotn forget Rammstein...they are Industrial Rock, too! A great band too...Please, for the sake of all that is good, do not go into the fact that they are one of the most mainstream bands out there...I know, and I dont want to here any ranting and raving...Especially from those who think they NEED to prove points...You know who you are...

It doesn't surprise me that Queenslanders dislike techno. They are ten years behind everyone else, afterall. ~_^

*crowd goes "oooo!"*

Ahem, anyway.

You should come to Melbourne for that sort of stuff. Lots of big clubs down 'ere. And the attitude toward the music is far more liberal, too. In fact, there are some speciality stores down here that cater exclusively to electronic music. I'm glad that it's relatively popular in this city. lol
