Kent
Well its been announced for some time now and it will be here in the 2004 spring release season. GT4 that is. In terms of what this new game will bring... For starters. A new physics engine. (more realistic and controlable gameplay) 50 tracks (many of which are real world tracks) 500 cars ('nuff said :D ) (including most if not all cars from gt2 & gt3, as well as all the classics and some new ones) Most importantly to me... Online racing. Thats right, now with your network adapter, we can all play together online with the greatest racer ever- gt4. To mention some of the more subtle points about this game... Real world testing was done with several cars on several real world tracks... the end results... The average laps of a Mazda rx-8 at laguna seca in game vs pro race car driver's avg. time in real life... .4 seconds This split was carried over with a vw lupo at laguna and a s2000 at the tsukuba racing circuit. What the developers at polyphony did was break the game into teams of designers... cars/tracks. Each square foot of any real world tracks are mentioned and accounted for. Each car has between 4000 and 5000 polygon renderings. To acheive such accuracy the team went about things differently. No intrest groups testing the game, no feedback consideration on how it played, etc. Instead they waited to do those things until after the product was made. What they did do, was account for the angles, slopes, length and width of each track. Then they accounted for dimensions of the cars, wieght, hieght, power, etc. in combonation with wind, inertia and gravity. These factors all laid into a formula, then applied to the game, ended with a racing sim closer to life than anything ever before. This game looks to be the greatest racer ever and will be the very next game I get. Its also gonna show us just how far the 120 gig processor on the ps2 can be pushed. For me, this is the game that will ruin my life like everquest did for so many others. Now its just time to wait and see what polyphony will do next. (just think  microsoft with their 600 gig processors, and polyphony doing gt5  ) Until then...:drunk: , Im gonna be in a state of euphoria playing gt4. Dont worry though... I'll still have time for the boards... Btw, what do you guys think of gt4?
Gohan Egret
I am very excited about this title. Heck, I have not even finished GT3! (80% and counting! F1 race car owns!) I should get back into it... But, about GT4, yes, it is looking *very* impessive, especially considering it is debuting on aging technology (PS2). Of course, though, with such a stellar game ready to go I guarantee another hit from the good folks from Polyphony Digital. :D
Charles
I love the Grand Turismo series so I'm definitely looking forward to the latest installment. Whereas Grand Turismo 3 was, in many ways, just a souped-up version of the PSX titles, this one will hopefully correct flaws such as cars bouncing off one another. I read that they'll either eliminate that problem or penalize players for doing it, so it's nice to see the game make strides in that area. Plus, I want to see how a fully realized pit crew will factor into the game. I can't say that I'm surprised at the improved front-end. A huge increase in cars and tracks were expected given the development time Polyphony was working with. Unfortunately, it's doubtful that we'll see fifty standalone tracks. That number is bound to be inflated by variations of a set number of course designs. But, yeah, the coming of a new Grand Turismo game usually sets the standard for which all simulation racers are judged and what I've seen is amazing. RicoTranzrig
I'm definitely going to get this game. Hope you can import cars and licenses from GT3. I like how you can apply the same driving techniques in real life and have similar results. EDIT: Also, I hope they put the USED car lots back like in GT2, I love those classics in all their polished glory.
Kent
Well Im glad to see there are atleast a few of us who love the gt series. Right now Im involved in some major racing over at www.gtplanet.net/forum/index and that place is great. Gt4 does look to be the best of the group to date, and I would have to support ????? on the statment about the tracks... it probably is a bit of a mis-representation by saying 50 tracks, when half of them are the same tracks only in reverse. Who exactly knows whats in store for us with this game...? no one at the moment besides poly phony, but for the time being, speculation is enough to keep my intrest. Nate
When ever a grand turismo game came out, it became the best simulation racing game there is. GT 4 will do the same. 5,00 acceceries per car, it will be sweet. I was reading a GameImformer magazine, they did a review, they showed a screen shot from a rally, and i swear it looked real. No difference between real life and it. It doen't blue the line, it blows it into so many dead peice they don't even worry about countin them. I can't wait. I've always been one to get a game when it's like 19 or 29 dollars, so i just got GT3. I got GT2 when it was 14 actually, and i've yet to beat either. My GT2 file was deleted by accident, so i haven't restarted it sence i got the GT3. But i can't wait till GT4 comes out.

Kent
spike, Its really awesome to see someone else into gt like myself. I got gt3 in january after having both of the other games. gt3 is a literally 99.0% complete and Ive also taken the racing to the next level with gt3 by going online... thats right, online. "sharkport" - makes saving memory card data on a pc possible. Therefore I can save other saves from other people, so what people do is... they use a game shark, put down all cars and 999,999,999 dollars, then do any sort of car track combinations. Then to actually race, just make the rules of conduct, and save your lap replay. Download the replay via sharkport to your pc, then post that replay on the net. I didnt know a thing about this practice till I started up on a gt board... 10,000+ members strong. Http://gtplanet.net/forums I thought I was fast when I first got there... lol, I was sad. The weekly challenge this week in the olr forum (online racing) is a gt one race car (toyota) fully modified at 1350hp. Then race in arcade mode, free lap, complex string, and keep 2 wheels on the track at all times. If you do it hit me with your time... :D btw, gt4 will most likely bring back racing mods for some cars, but as the game informer interviews mentioned... more space for racing mods means less space for more cars. again, btw, ... with my shark port, I have a porsche gt3 911 (996) that is labeled and different from the "ruf." I also have a lamborgini "nomad race car" that is awesome. Both are availble using programs for the pc, to unlock hidden programing in the game. ... long story with legal dealings at polyphony. You can also make hybrid cars using one program... hybrids = any hp, any car body on any car frame, anything and everything... but uh yeah, lookin forward to gt4 that I am. Pagan
I'm not a huge racing game fan outside of the Test Drive series, but this game is going to be good. I've played a sample and from what I've seen the graphics are amazing. The game play is so simple even a child could play it. The cars are slamming and they even have 2003 models out there racing against hte old school ones.
