Is Anime a Big Thing Where You Live?

I figure most of you people here in the OB are young, and by young I mean in school. I figure everyone likes anime or else they wouldn't be here.

Well, I was wondering (I do that a lot) if you people are considered a dork for watching anime. I mean, I am. It's not a big thing where I live. It's hard to find it in movie rental places or even places to buy it. Only little kids watch it; sure there are others of course but if you're over ten you're consider a weirdo.

My friends just don't get it. They think I'm really weird for watching it. They like to watch stuff like Sponge Bob (nothing against him), but they don't like the japanese cartoons. I personally don't care what they think.

Is it like this for anyone else?

I thank you both, Narius and Noodleboy, for you're advice but I guess I wrote my thread different than how I wanted it to sound. I was simply curious if my peers here in OB had problems finding good anime where they live too, or they had friends that don't like anime either.

I realize now how imature I sounded, I suppose I should have explained myself better, sorry bout that.

Besides my friends consider me weird anyway, and they still love me none the less.

Anime.. Is not that big where I live. I'm in the suburbs, and we don't get The Anime Channel here. The only places you can really get your anime in stores are the basic places.. Best Buy, Game Stores and the like. -_- We have no speciality stores all about anime..

I took a survey, and only 10 in 200 students in my grade actually knew what manga was. o_O

Well, at my school, we have like 2 - 3 avid anime watchers. We really like anime, and our friends are cool with it. (We are in the same group). But somepeople don't understand that anime has a lot of things that make them more than cartoons. Plus the ignorant people think anime is just DBZ.

*Sigh* With those kinda people around, I fear for this world.

Where I live we have one anime store, and then we have stores that just sell stuff like DBZ GT .hack//SIGN Vampire Hunter D Gundam Argentosoma and Chobits. Right around here where I like, I say that's not all that popular, because when I go to the store to buy it every single on of the copies they had of those anime DvDs are still there.

And then they sit there until someone comes like me comes and buys one. That's just sad. I am not considered a dork, for one reason they don't know what the heck it is. Another reason is because I don't try to show them so they could call me a dork. I don't get called a dork, I just am.

I also live in the suburbs, and the only places I can buy anime is Best Buy, Media Play. or Waldenbooks for manga. There aren't any stores dedicated to anime or anything. In my whole school, I think there are about three-four people who really watch various animes. All the others just watch DBZ and nothing else.

Were i live, and if your found watching or drawing anime, people say that you like Yu-Gi-Oh and DBZ. I hate both to the fullest extent. But i can't blame them seeing as how i'm the only anime fan in my school who doesn't like or play Yu-Gi-Oh. Damn you YGO, Damn you too hell! But there is a group of girls who like other anime's, but there mostly just inlove with InuYasha and RayEarth and write hentai stories. (I said write, not draw.) They handed me one and it was, interesting.(Gohan and Videl, Goku and Chichi are away, hot monkey love.)

So if i want too hang with the popular crowd, i hide my anime fandom and speak about it with my closest freinds. So, no, its looked down uppon.

Well, in small towns like this *waves around* either no one knows what it is or they think it is dumb... I have found very few ppl that watch anime here... well there is always the little ones who like DBZ or Pokemon. My friend used to watch anime, but her parents disaproved of it since they are against "violence".. but some of my friends watch Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha.

I honestly don't know of many people in my town that watch anime. Or even know what it IS for that matter. >_< There really aren't many stores that sell anime other than mainstream titles like DBZ or Pokemon. And the rental places don't have much either. I think the only place we have is Radio Shack... and Waldenbooks.

I hate living in a small town...

Xai i totaly agree with u on that living in a small or in my case backwash town in my opioion sucks its hard to find people who even like anime or even no what Anime is plus u have to drive like 10 miles to get to a place the sells anime and the main problem is where i am most people think like this

Anime = Only Pokemon = stuip kiddy stuff

Which really gets me ticked we had to dew a power piont thing for class last year on a hobbie or whatever so me and my friends did ours on anime we had to stop every 3 seconds to explain somthing to a person with a question but there was one good side to it i got one of the "populer" girls on my bus to listen to my Lupin the 3rd CD and she wanted me to make her a copy scary no?

and getting back to the whole people likeing anime its like finding gold when that happens to me in my school last year there were only like 5 people who knew and like anime its really a shame caues anime is the best way to tell a story with all the character develoment and the great soundtracks well thats all for me sry for any mispellings and i think i went a bit off topic oh well

i live in NYC too and many many people in my school are into anime. my friends make fun of me but that's only because they think i'm unhealthily obsessed, and everybody who did consider us dorks had never seen anime before and have since been sucked in. Our club is now one of the largest in our school with over forty members and it was just started a year ago! i'm the president-in-training

My case is a bit different. I know, yes I KNOW that people are into anime, but the hard part is finding them, and making them admit. I really don't know why people do that. Is anime something to be ashamed of if you're obsessed?

yeah NYC=the place to be. i lived there for quite a while(19yrs) an every where u went by me there was some store that sold some kind of anime. wether it be mainstream or not they sold it. yeah i watch it alot, but my friends watch some of it too, even my older bros friends who used say im still a kid for watchin it, do watch abit themselves thanks to me. so i guess the answer would be its highly accpeted by me. it kinda helps ya know.

The San Diego area and Southern California in general is pretty cool. Sure, there are people who REALLY don't like and many more who don't even understand (LOL, all my anime fan friends are online aside from one, and the club at SDSU is a bunch of hentai freaks, so if I eventually go to SDSU in the next five years-kind of my plan-I'm either forming my own club or remaining totally unaffiliated)

Nevertheless, I like it here, and if you could be completely open about your interests without all the trouble that brings, it would be even better. -^.^-

People around this area don't like anime that much.

people here always tell us to grow up and act our age. but since they only think all anime is either DBZ or Pokemon they think all anime is for younger people.

however, i know that some of the people that claim that they hate anime, don't really :p

Where I am every body who is 12 and up thinks that anime is very stupid and any one who watches anime must be pretty dumb. After so many years of living on this planet you learn to ignore what people say and just do what is most natural to you. Besides, most of them watch it as well. Even if they say they don't.

I failed too mention that a few of my popular freinds (I know i sound snobby, but theres no other way to put it.) like Ruroini Kenshin, YuYu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, and Big O, but its becasue those animes are more mature than others.
