Man, I've seen this topic for some time know, and I honestly wish I lived were some of you live. Anime is great, period. I love it and pretty much will for many years to come. I'm even doing some modifications to my PC and painting it with some anime characters and so, Hey, I maybe even post them at myOtaku to show. Anyway, I wish I could be with people that have the same interests and hobbies as I.

*sigh* oh well....

Most of my friends like anime. I pretty much think that anime is not a big thing at my school, but there are people that like anime. I know that the school that I used to go to, everyone was into anime. Everyone was even drawing their own anime too. That is mostly where I got into anime.

i really wish more people liked anime here. heh heh, my sister and i watch it all the time, it's like our "sisterly bonding" activity if you will. also my best friend who lives like 30 min. away and her sister like it too, which means i do have some people to talk to it about. (yay) but all my friends at school have no idea (or a little idea) of what anime is, let alone manga. it's kinda sad. :bawl:

Anime is hated where I live. Everybody here thinks that anime is propaganda for devil worship. The pastor at the church here even talked about the "negative" effects of NGE and they actually burnt a huge pile of Tokyopop mangas(for real). They don't just demonize anime and manga. They think that all japanese culture should be condemned. They don't attack personally me or call me names or anything else like that but, they keep nagging me to think about how they are trying to "help" me. I would move away but, I can't until my wife finishes school.

*gag* Here, I don't even think the people know what Anime is! I mean, me, my friends D and L (as I call them), and the boys at my school (DBZ fans) know about it. But other than us, I don't really know. I mean it's a big thing between me and some of my friends... *shrug* So, I guess it isn't a big thing. Darn it! :flaming:

My best friend dosen't really watch anime but she thinks Ryou is really cute! Me too! And here, never try to get Anime, YOU CAN'T! Well I've managed to find two Escaflowne DVD but they're in french :flaming: You can get mangas, but they're in french too :flaming: I was wondering, can you buy anime dvd at a blockbuster? Cuz there's one in a town that's about two hours of drive from where I live. We go there sometimes. Well anyways, At least I can get my Shonen Jumps! :D

-Is amazaed this thread is still going...-

Well, i'm still considered a geek, but i've found a small cluster of people (guys of course) who are into anime. Anime is still no big thing where i live, but it is growing (manga too). The Sam Goody around here a small selection of anime and manga. So that's a bit of a plus. It's mostly mainstream and all over priced. But it's better than nothing. I can mostly borrow it off my friends (Craton-sama and Ingram-san) who i do believe can be called otakus. Anyway, anime is still no big thing. But i'm ok with it now. I'm still a huge anime fan and growing.

In high school, there were some losers who think of anime as Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z. There were a few people who knew about animes like Trigun and in one of the school computers, someone I didn't know had a screensaver of Rei on it. I was happy to know that I wasn't the only anime fan in the school then. As for family, my brother is totally into Gundam but only Gundam, I'm the only one who watches other animes.

Anime is mostly popular to men in our country. While anime has been going on since god knows when, it only became THAT popular when they actually aired YYH on a local channel a few years ago. By the time the anime is being shown, men of varying ages cannot be found outside but are inside their homes watching YYH. That was the dawn of anime for them. But I can still say that girls who like anime here can be counted.

And just FYI guys, when you like anime here...the word "nerd" or "geek" won't even surface in the mouths of people. Good ne?

Moor... :o you're no dork!

Is anime popular in my tiny corner of the world? Ummm....ah...no.
In fact, I don't anyone who's even mentioned anime in my class, but I can bet they think it's kiddish as well. Sadly, I myself only get a small outlet to explore the anime world, since we don't actually have much to rent, and the only place to find it is late at night, during the tail end of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

On top of that, during the school year, I can't even watch that! I have to go to bed at around 10PM during the school year!

Oh well. :p

Anime is pretty big where I live. (Somewhere in north Florida) We have 3 colleges (2 universities and 1 community college) and they all have anime clubs. (some are underground though...) At my high school we have an anime club and there is a city-wide anime club (for everyone. I don't know much about it.) Alot of people in my town who are into art are into anime also. (And that's a lot of people...) Best of all there have a comic book shop that sells anime/manga exclusively. Eh, but most in my town get anime/manga from Suncoast Picture Co. in the mall...

bagh! No one cares about anime where I live! (Tennessee) It so totally sucks! Because I only have a few friends that watch it as well! Plus my mom thinks I'm crazy when I watch an episode of Inuyasha because I just get into it. I'm so sorry that time she put her hand over my eyes I tried to bite her sheesh  lol. Anyways, yea it sucks....I'm done...

My high school had an anime club when I was there. Plus there's RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) UofR (University of Rochester) and MCC (Monroe Community College) to add to the ammount of people (mainly guys ranging in age from 18-to mid twenties) who watch an ungodly ammount of anime plus play RPGs and do the comic book/manga thing as well.

Among my friends there's a bit of diversity. My best friend never really showed much of an interest in anime, but my husband is happily downloading anime over in Iraq (maybe one could say that anime is popular in the Red Zone north of Baghdad :D ) and a few of my other friends who are younger than me enjoy anime and manga. My ex thought I was childish to watch anime, but he's the one who did backyard wrestling and spent a whole paycheck on a water gun. That's probably why I'm not with him.

So I guess you could say that the greater Rochester area has an interest in anime mostly thanks to its colleges.

From where I came from (actually 'hEvN and I are in the same country:D ), in the Philippines you can say that anime is so popular around here. You can always hear children even adults talking about anime and sometimes anime is used by many people for pastimes and sometimes trends in different ways.

Did you know that some local channels in our country made a daily an anime hour or two and every day it shows different series. And on mondays they show some anime movies that really made anime a big thing in our place. We also had our own "pledge" for an "Animenation" because our country is really strucked in anime by storm. You can also find shops here that sell only anime (yes peepz! for me that's anime heaven hehehehe ^_^) where you can find anything about anime. Also many anime conventions had been set here and thousands and thousands of fellow anime otakus go and join in conventions like that (actually I have been 2 times already and heck there are so many of them including HOT CHICKS (hehehehe :D  :D hehehehe)

Anime seems to have a really big following where i live. It could just be that where i go to college i'm more exposed to it (yeah, thats propably it :P). You can safely say at my college, 90% of the students will like or love anime.

For the rest of the city though...........we do have a anime club.....but i can't really say its that good or popular. Sure, it gets some people going due to it showing anime but when i went with some friends to it, we all like anime and nearly all of us left after first hour or so....

Around the center of the city, there are quite a few places that sell manga and anime. Most of these are comic book stores though. So yea, my college has big anime following, but the rest of the city......its very small (thats including the club).
