According to the last episode of .Hack//SIGN [spoiler]Aura will awaken once Tsukasa if finally able to log out of the world.[/spoiler] That leads me to believe that the Phases were orignally sent after Tsukasa and the rest of the group since (IIRC) Skeith appeared before [spoiler]Tsukasa logs out.[/spoiler]
