Shy
Rather than ban favorites threads entirely, OB staff has decided to keep them around in the intelligent manner they have always meant to be discussed in. This means that members must discuss why something is their favorite, rather than just listing off the name of a character/anime/etc.
Bad Example of a Favorites Topic Post: OMG i luv Kenshin he is such a hottie and my fave! lol ;););)
The above post would be a terrible way to start, or reply to a thread. It is poorly written and no real discussion could be generated. Now let's look at a good post:
Good Example of a Favorites Topic Post Gene Starwind is a wondeful character, and I think he is one of the most interesting protagonists in all of anime. His motivations and strengths work on many levels, and that makes him very easy to relate to. I found myself more interested in the emotional conflict within Gene, rather than the fight scenes in "Outlaw Star."
This second post is well-written and explains why the character is their favorite. Posts like this are intelligent, and capable of generating some actual discussion. At OB we definitely try to promote the second type of post as opposed to the first. Anyway, I hope this was helpful to the members at OB. Remember that favorites topics can be fun, but at times they can be overly repetetive. If you are going to make a favorites thread, remember to put a lot of thought into your posts. That way the thread will be both interesting and memorable so that members will want to post in it. Thanks for reading :) -Shy
AzureWolf
I don't know if you left this thread open by accident or on purpose, but since this thread is for "clarifying," I thought I would ask here. If I shouldn't have, I will have no qualms if you delete my post. What about these Anime quizzes? I mean, the questions they ask are ones that demand facts. Retorting hard information and no comment/discussion/opinion doesn't really seem to merit a thread, you know? I want to know what you think about them. I really think the questions asked should be more open-ended than inquiries that bring replies such as, "yes," "the South," and "42." EDIT: Oh, thank you SO MUCH for opening this thread again, Shy! That "opionion" typo was driving me mad. :D

Quiz threads can be fun sometimes, but they do not generate any discussion. In many ways they go against OB rules, and in older versions we only allowed them in the Adventure Arena/RPG forum. The problem is that times change, and members have shown a frightening ammount of interest in these types of threads. Therefore we keep these types of threads open on a limited basis (like the favorites threads I hate so much) due to popular demand. I wish that members would try to make something more interesting than a "favorites" topic or quiz thread, oh well. I kept this thread open on purpose, in order for members to ask any questions they might have about this, or related subjects. So I'm going to re-open it, and hope that the thread doesn't get out of hand with posts like AutoKill's. -Shy
Stick Fairy
I just wanted to say that a great part of "favorites" threads is that it shares opinions and can lead to new anime discoveries for all. While I agree that just stating a favorite with no reasoning behind it is stupid, favorites threads can be very interesting and informative. Now, what was my question? Oh yes: Would an acceptable question be "How long have you been an otaku, and what anime got you started?" Technically, it´s not a "favorites" question, but it´s very similar, so I thought I should ask.

If you look in the past two or three pages, you should see the threads and be able to post in them. Hope this helps. ^_^
Guest Aston T. Davis
How would I conduct a "Favorite Veneer" proclamation?
