What do you people think about feminism? I myself has always been against it even as a four year old. Not that Im sexist but, A man cant get pregnant like a girl can do less physical things. Im also mad because I saw a thing on the discovery channel that girls are better than boys. That kinda makes me angry, I mean, they were saying stuff like boys are stupid and stuff. What do you people think?

Hahahaha ... best line ever. wrist cutter, that one line made me want you as a buddy. ;)

Anyway.

I'm a girl, and I'm not particularly feminist, though I do sometimes get mad when people say that girls can't do the same things guys can. Then I realize that I say guys can't do things that girls can all the time ... I haven't really tried and reasoned that out (I'm unreasonable, hehe), but I guess I believe that the sexes were not really created equal. Note that saying they weren't created equal isn't the same as saying they shouldn't be treated equally -- of course they should. Plus, I do not think that one is better than the other. They're just ... different.

Not to insult you Jubei, but I seriously doubt that the Discovery Channel would ever say something like that, as I'm sure they have at least a couple of males on their production staff who would complain, not to mention tons of viewers who would write in.

There are studies and stuff suggesting that the sexes have different inherent intelligences, which may be what Discovery was covering. But, I don't think that really matters in the end. There are girls that are really smart, and there are guys that are really smart -- generalizations about each entire sex seems a little pointless.

(All of the above is, of course, just my opinion ...)

Guest dayday
Who says girls can't play the same sports as boys. They just can't play together. I thought about that and realize things tend to happen between them. But I consider them both equal. We both have our strong and weak points.

I've noticed that most of the "masculine" sports girls can play, but guys can't always do some of the "feminine" sports.

Examples:
girls can play: hockey, football (real football, not just powderpuff), and wrestling... those are all that come to mind anyway...

boys can't do: volleyball, pom squad, or color guard (I don't know if they'd want to do the last two, but think schools should have equal opportunites)

I know guys in Color Guard... well, don't know them, but I've seen them. Boys can do it, they just get laughed at a lot by other boys who don't.

Volleyball is the only sport mentioned there if you didn't notice. And quite a few guys can play volleyball and rather decently too.

We're all human, we're equal. Sure, there are things guys can do or experience that girls can't, and vice versa, but in the bigger picture we're on the same level. Our strengths are just in different areas.

And against what most people seem to believe, I don't think any one of these areas is more important to be strong in than any other area. I also think that humanity's reverence of brute strength will kill us all. We need to balance our reverences...

in all honesty, men and women are not physically equal. that's just the way it is, and the way it always has been. which is why I am for the idea of most sports teams segregating the sexes.

I don't know about intelligence and all that, since I've always thought that it depended on the individual, not necessarily the gender. and I'm still holding to that, no matter what science theory comes out to state otherwise :p.

despite all that, both should be treated equally. as in, the guy is no more better than the girl, and the girl is no more better than the guy. I'm all for women's rights and whatnot, but I don't agree with women trying to get advantages or special extra attention simply because they're females. I bet if men were to do the same thing, the general people wouldn't give a hoot (generally, lol).

as an example, that law that says colleges can admit a certain number of individuals from minorities (females, different races of people, etc., or something like that) simply for more 'cultural variety,' or whatnot (I can't remember the name of it for the life of me, it's kinda fuzzy  ). it's all great to have various backgrounds, but I think that someone should get into a college/school for their academic achievement, not because of their gender/ethnicity. meaning, if it just so happened that the best people to get admitted were mostly white males, then they should be able to go. or if they were mostly African American females, they should get to go, and so on and so forth. Goven, that was kinda rude, you dont want me to get angry about the stereotypes that men are stupid say these cartoons:

Simpsons
Family guy
Futurama
Grim and Evil

And there are more commercials too. Anyway i've played real football with a girl... And I beated the crap out of her, she was crying when I was done with her. She was on the offensive line and I pushed her over and someone also got pushed over on top of her and she was crying so... That leaves the football thing out.

I'm almost positive women are generally more smarter because of some way their brain works. As for you beating up a girl, good job you're a man now.

I agree with feminism on the actuality of what it is: equality of the sexes. Though it is rather ironic considering "feminism" is obviously a female influenced word; unless it was a guy who came up with the word. Then it would be okay, because it would have been his way of showing he believes in feminism by creating the word for "equality of the sexes" in the likeness of a female.

Though, the definition of feminism todaty seems to have changed into female superiority to the male, which it most definitely is not. Too many people now confuse feminism with the concept of chauvinism.

Chauvinism has become connoted to mean the belief of male superiority to the female, but really it is just the prejudice belief of superiority of one's own group, gender, race, etc. It is that I do not agree with.

"Anything you can do, I can do better." - a Chauvinist
"Anything you can do, I can do just as well." - a Feminist

I've seen those shows. I'm guessing you're referring to fry when you say Futurama, but his stupidity isn't because he's a man, it's because his overall lack of work he puts forth (which has been shown all the time). Simpsons and Family Guy are comedies and it's easy to get laughs from idiots doing stupid things. I don't watch Grim and Evil to be honest.

Well, I do agree that men and women have physical differences generally. That's why in Australia, women are not allowed to serve on the front line forces in the military. There are many women, however, who want that right. My feeling is basically that it shouldn't be denied. Let the individual decide what they want to do. If they feel they're up to it...that's their choice. And I respect them for making such a choice.

When it comes to the brain and so on...there are some differences between men and women. But I wouldn't say that any one sex is smarter than the other. You could sit there forever and make a billion inane points about that. But it's really pointless, either way.

I think that when someone is in a dominant group (ie: straight white male), it's easy to say "damn those feminists! What do they want now?!" But when you're in any kind of group that is given unfair treatment...it's reasonable to demand your rights and to expect equal treatment. Women are no different from anyone else in this regard. Women shouldn't be discouraged from becoming corporate CEOs or political leaders, for example. It should be encouraged, if anything.

I know there's a lot more to say on the subject...but I guess that's my summary.

Yes, unfair treatment like not naming hurricanes after the minority. Hey, you know, if they're voicing concern over this, obviously it's a pretty big deal.
