Suggestion to Help Newbies

Well, since most newbies start off bad, I was thinking the Admin could make it so that a line or two of text in bold appears under a forum name to explain what that forum is. Example:

Under the Otaku Lounge:

This is a place to talk about anything that has a base of discussion to it. Introduction threads are not allowed, and will be closed immediatly.

Under the Banner/Avatar Request:

You see those banners and avatars people have? You can request for someone to make them here. The standard size of an avatar is 80x80, while a banner is 500x100.

Maybe they Admin's could make it so that this message shows for them for a period of a month or so, so they can get used to it.

Just a suggestion. :toothy:

That's actually quite good. But here's something better. Well... not better. Maybe. But another idea. Maybe when they register instead of having "you agree to the rules etc etc etc" then you put it in another place where they can see it. Any good? Both ideas should be considered.

Eh, I always thought that the forum descriptions were self explanatory, as they are. In the Otaku Lounge heading, you're instructed to post off-topic discussion as long as it's in accordance with the rules. If you read that, not knowing the rules, I think it's a pretty good indication that you better get to reading before you post.

The other forums are titled appropriately and give you basic instructions too. And, once the new rules are up, I don't think there will be any room for confusion. I mean, they'll be specifically tailored to the site and integrated pretty well. For now, we have sticky threads in certain areas, like the anime forums and the greeting card sub-forum.

Besides, this might sound a little superficial, but I think the forums would look boring and intimidating with stuff like:
This is a place to talk about anything that has a base of discussion to it. Introduction threads are not allowed, and will be closed immediatly.
What we have now is friendly and welcoming. I prefer a presentation like that. Yep, that's where I stand on the issue.
