Baron Samedi
I was searching for a name yesterday (seeing if it was free) and i found HEAPS of people who came on in like 2002 made 6 posts. And have obviuosly never come back? Should there be a period of time, after which their names are deleted from the system. Because they're obviously not coming back, and they are just hogging all (or some) of the good names. Maybe if you dont log onto OB for a year then your membership is deleted (especially Newbies). Because it seems rather pointless to have heaps of names that are never used. Thanx:toothy: ****EDIT***** Maybe a year is even too long. Maybe 6 months without logging on to OB?? ****EDIT****
Patronus
It's a good idea, but what if someone is absent from a computer for 6 months/year? If they come back, they'll have to re-register. Leh
Mei
I'm surprised my username wasn't deleted, considering I was gone for almost a year and a half.^^() I'd only had about 2 posts, but still it never left. Back on topic though.. Logan is right about this, some people may be gone for a long amount of time, for reasons out of their control. Some people have computer problems, some have school to deal with, the list goes on and on. Also, I know the staff goes through the list every once and a while and clears out names, but until that happens, there isn't much that can be done.
Ayokano
Yah...I have seen some forums like this, some make you post monthly o_O;;;;; I would be aginst this, mainly because people(not me) have lifes. They may have school,or grew out of it for a while.I really don't know....:sign:,I would get mad cause I was having problems for a while and my account deleted. Baron Samedi
I see your opoint about that... I was suggesting it for mainly Newbies. And if you are a serious OB'er then send a message to James or Charles or whoever, telling them you are leaving for a while, and not to delete your account? And if you only have a low post count (as most Newbies do) then it wont tkae long to get your account back up and running, will it? I mean 6 posts from Fevruary 2002. They're obviuosly unlikely to come back. They are the sort of people who should have their account deleted.
Braidless Baka
Well... I'm against that too, mostly because I registered in December 2002 but didn't start posting actively until a couple of months after that. I mean, fine it wouldn't have taken much to get my post count (0 at the time I believe - I was an annoying n00b sending PMs to people ~_~;; ) - If my account had been deleted, I wouldn't have felt too warm towards the boards as a whole. Y'know? It would have been a case of "Why my account?" I probably wouldn't have reregistered. There you have it: my viewpoint. O_O Although I'm sure some sort of pruning goes on in regards to usernames though O_o I'm just not sure what it is.
