this is for mods.

ive noticed that there have been a lot of newbie threads saying nothing at all and that they are all getting closed and i think that theyre crouding the lounge, so i think that the e-mail that is sent to people who have just registered on ob should say that newbie threads are not allowed, since you have to read the e-mails to be able to do anything on ob anyway. think about it.

Yes, I agree with Leh on this one. Though it would be a nice addition to have OtakuBot back to PM the new members reminding them to read the rules, or if they disabled the PM option, it'd send them an email...
Since when did OtakuBot do that? That's never what it/he/she was about. ~_^

Anyway, our rules are starting to get out of date as it is. Of course that doesn't mean that basic rules shouldn't or can't be followed. All of what's up there is still very much applicable.

But we'll definitely be giving the rules more prominence with v7.

the problem is that most people probably dont read the rules when they sign up because all they have to do is say that they read them and its done. i know its in the rules and that it should be read but there are a lot of rules and most people dont want to read them all. maybe you could put it in bold and at the top of the page so people registering could see it.

We could never do that, this is the internet:p

You can never really make a person read the rules,it's not like we can send a mod to their house and make them read the rules....But I think we could do that.....

Well my point is that you can never make someone read the rules. They ether read the rules for their own good,or they get in trouble when the mess up.

It's not other members' fualt. It's theirs.

No, no, no... sorry, I wasn't too clear on that... I meant program it to actually do that lol... I don't know for sure of the bot program could be edited to do so, but if it could.... Kwehehehe...

:therock: Hizza-whazza? I can't even say it right now...lol...

OOooohhhh! Or we could do what was requested much earlier on around the start of V6 I think... anyway, it was a quiz about the rules... Come to think about it again, nah...

If someone isn't going to read the rules... they most likely aren't going to read a PM or an e-mail either. However, it seems like you're also talking about people who seemingly just don't notice them for whatever reason.

In that case, I don't see what's wrong with the current situation. These sorts of ideas are more trouble than they're worth, in my opinion, because we simply have to click two things to close a thread. Then write some short thing about why and point them to the rules. It is all that needs to be done. If they don't take their own initiative and get those things taken care of, that's their problem. We're meant to clean up things and keep things in line. I personally don't want to be a babysitting service.

They are supposed to read the rules when they register, if they don't... oh well. If they're bad enough they're told about the rules again as it is. I severely doubt that if that doesn't do anything (or the sight of a bunch of closed threads), simply PMing them a reminder would do jack.

Besides, it seems to me that the most direct way of doing things is the best. People simply respond more if they're getting individual attention from a specific person about specific things. OtakuBot can not provide that in any way.

Well, I meant that it can't act on a personal level. Even if it was able to PM members when they first join, I don't think it would be affective because everyone would know it was an automated response.

It just seems to me that most of the new or poor members don't respond unless they are put on the line and warned in some way. I can't see them doing anything about it unless there was some risk involved and an actual mod doing the warning.
