Shinmaru
I just got this game yesterday and I must say that it's better than I thought it would be. Mostly because I was just expecting Mario Golf with better graphics. The first thing that you notice is that there are two different styles in which you swing your club (though, neither are difficult, thank God). The first is the automatic swing. It takes a bit of time to get used to because it's different than the manual swing. It starts out the same until you choose which button you want to hit. If you hit the A button to judge your power, then the cursor slowly comes in from the left and you hit the A button again to get your ball position right. It takes a bit of time to get the timing down, but once you do it's a lot easier than the manual swing. In the manual swing, it's just like in Mario Golf 64, except you hit the B button on the power side and not the A button. So far I haven't done that much, but I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far. The only gripe I have is with the putting. For some reason, I find it a lot more difficult in this game than it ever was in Mario Golf 64. I can't even come up with a good reason for this; it seems pretty much the same as it was in Mario Golf 64. Other than that, the game is pretty good. Anyone else play it? Semjaza
I put off buying this game because I bought Hot Shots Golf 3 instead of only $10. They're both made by Camelot, so I'm sure there are many similiarites. I played the Mario Golf demo at Circuit City well before it came out, and I thought it was quite good. It was set on Automatic though, which I thought was way too simple. I know Charles and Jenn (RPCrazy) both have this game too. I plan on just renting it. Shinmaru
Yeah, the Automatic is pretty simplistic once you can get the timing down. I'm still using it, though, because I need the extra boost before I have to deal with the damn putting lol. I really need to learn how to putt. My brother's having fun with it. He seems to have gotten the hang of it pretty quickly, which is good. He had a lot harder time with Mario Golf 64. I don't have the luxury of buying Hot Shots Golf 3 because I don't have a PS2. If I did, I would buy that, because it's cheaper. And I just found one more gripe with the game: Toad's annoying voice. I think politicians will finally find something that truly causes violence as a result of playing a game lol.
Semjaza
I had one question. Charles wasn't sure of it yet. I doubt this is in there. In Hot Shots Golf 3, there are a few random customizing things that I like. The first being you can choose the season, which affects a lot of things. Is this in Mario Golf at all? I'd have to assume there can be random wind at the least, as well as rain... but I don't know. The second thing is that the game gives you credits based on how well you play courses. You can use this money to buy new items, new golf club bags (that affect your character's playing), new caddies and so on. Does Mario Golf has something similiar to this at all? Shinmaru
As far as I can tell from the instruction booklet, you can't customize the season. Some random rain and wind will come on occasion but that's about as varied as the weather gets (outside of some wind, that is). As far as I can tell, Mario Golf doesn't let you buy new clubs and stuff. I might be wrong (I haven't played that much into Mario Golf) but there's nothing in the instruction booklet that would suggest otherwise. I'll see when I play it more, though, and I'll inform everyone if there is.
Shippo
I rented "Mario Golf Toadstool Tour" yesterday, and boy did i like it^_^. Im not really a fan of golf, let alone do i even play it 0.o, but this game rules! It has a lotta characters, and sum
Secret characters
.... I was surprised to find out that..
Baby Bowser is a secret character, and Petey Pirhana from Mario Sunshine!
I also like the characters "taunts" like when they win or lose, I was just wondering what everyone else thought of this game.. Charles
I'm probably going to trade this game in. It's quite enjoyable to a certain extent and there are plenty of fun modes. But, there are a number of flaws in the gameplay that really detract from the funfactor. For example, the putting game is terrible. It doesn't matter how good your timing is, or your aiming in accordance with the wind--the success of your shot seems to rely on luck. The computer, however, puts with unbelievable accuracy. And the camera doesn't help matters any. So, unless you're playing multiplayer, be prepared to face an unfair handicap. Furthermore, the course layouts can be incredibly cheap. There are certain points where a mountain or other obstacle will get in your way, and the only option is to give up.
Shinmaru
Well, it's nice to see that I'm not the only person who hates the putting in Mario Golf. As I said before, I can't even come up with a good reason why the putting is off in this game. It's like you have to hit it perfectly for it to go in. In real golf, even if you're off a little bit, the ball has a chance to go in. Such is not the case with this game, which really sucks. As for the obstacles, I've done a pretty good job of avoiding them, but it can be very frustrating when you have to shoot around them. The sand traps, especially, can be frustrating to get out of at times. I once had to take five shots to get out of one damn sand trap. That doesn't even happen in real life! And this is supposed to be an arcade-like golf experience, so I don't know why it is the way it is.
Semjaza
The putting sounds even worse than in Hot Shots Golf 3. Putting is an outright ***** in that game, although I do think most of it can be attributed to skill. The wind, the level, the grass it all is taken into account. Once I got used to it, I did get substantially better though. I really don't think I'm going to bother with this game. It just doesn't seem worth it at this point.
