Guest shagadelic
I just wanted to post this thread so that everyone could appreciate just how great of a movie "Empire Records" truly is. Here is the low down on the movie. Jess this post is for you!! Empire Records is about a group of teenagers who all work in a music store called Empire Records. It's one day in their life and it begins the first night Lucas gets the awesome responsibility of closing the store. While counting the money, he finds a contract that will turn Empire Records into a Music Town (a loser music store) and decides to do something about it. He takes the daily monies earned and loses it in Atlantic City. What he doesn't know is that Joe Reaves (Store manager, played by Anthony LaPaglia) was planning to make an offer and buy Empire Records. Now, aren't they in a predicament? To make matters a little bit worse, it's Rex Manning Day. Rexy is a washed-up has-been musician who is not so sexy. The characters of this movie are what make it, because the plot is an old one we've all seen before. They all have their little quirks, and it's these oddities that brings the chemistry to the screen. For instance, there's Corey Mason (played by Liv Tyler). She's a senior in high school, perfect, naive and thinks losing her virginity to Rex Manning is the perfect stepping stone into womanhood. (More like the stepping stone off a precipice into stupidity). AJ, the great artist, is in love with her, and decides he is going to tell her by 1:37pm. (This happening, of course, right after she throws herself at Rex). Then there's Gina (played by Renee Zellweger), Corey's best friend. A head strong, I-don't-take-any-****-from-anyone kinda girl who is hiding behind this shield because deep down, she's insecure, and a little jealous of Corey. There's Mark, who is high most of the time and is just out there having a party all by himself in left field and Debra (played by Robin Tunney), a girl starved for attention, who tried to commit suicide with a Lady Bic and shaved her head and her boyfriend, Berko (played by Coyote Shivers) who doesn't really say a lot. Of course, we've already met Lucas, who, according to AJ, used to be pretty normal and on this day, has turned into Pat Morita from The Karate Kid. Last, there's Warren, whose name isn't really warren and you just have to see him to get the full experience. This movie is funny, sad and heart warming all at once. There's a subtle humor that sort of sneaks up on you and just tickles your funny bone. It will make you think about that time in your life when you were a teenager, when you were looking for your niche, your place in life. It's a really great movie. Get it out an start watching it!!!! The Soundtrack is also the best....its got some great golen oldies.
Genkai
A cunch of people have told me to see this movie, but I haven't gotten a chance to. I didn't read the whole description, because I sorta got lost when you said the manager of the store was gonna buy it--doesn't he own it? Whatever, it sounds like a good movie in general.
