AnthroCon

I've been an Anthro fan for a couple years now. I've seen adds for AnthroCon all over the net, but only recently have my interests really started saying "Gee Jenn, maybe you should go."

Now, I know it's over and done with for 2003, but what I'd like to know is this: Did you go? Did you have fun? Did you want to go, but couldn't? Would you recommend someone who has never been on a MUCK (namely: me) to go? And will you go next year?

What you call 'AnthroCon' we call Numa Rei-No Con here in LA. It has different names depending on where it goes. But yes, if you would like to experiance it, it is a very fun experiance. I am going this year (Dec. 12-14, last stop) and will be going next year if all goes well.

A MUCK is basically the main form (as far as I know) for people to RP...though mostly I'm restricted to the lesser form of AoL and AIM. >_< I can't remember what the letters stand for...I only came to learn what they were about a year ago. If you've ever heard of Furcadia, isn't basically that only without the visual pictures, I believe (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

Oh, with that in mind, anyone know of a good MUCK I could try out?

AnthroCon rumors I've heard have been...inspiring. People in furrie suits (not my forte, but d*** it's an interesting thing), artists galore, all types of people and creatures coming together for one desire: to meet others like them. To exchange and buy art, to meet the people they've spent years and lifetimes RPing and communicating with. -drools-

Oh yes, I'm definately considering going to it next year, being very, very near the Philly area where the East Coast (~_^ Valen) AnthroCon will be held.

Is an "anitimorphiac" or whatever it is, an anime character, like a human-shaped animal? I remember that word from somewhere...

I'm not sure whether I'd like it or not, I don't tend to follow anime. And I don't know any "human-shaped anime characters" straight off the top of my head.. I'd go if I had the chance, but I wouldn't like it.. just worth the try to see what it's like, if I could get there.

Well, I'm an anthro fan, but not the biggest one in the world. Furries are hard for me to draw. But, however, if you're into the furrie roleplaying, Furcadia is the place to go.

I used to be on Furcadia, but then I quit because I'd be accosted by random people and then when I'd try to find something, I'd always get lost. But, basically, has anyone played the Sims online thing? Or anything like it? Because that's what I think of when Furcadia comes to mind. You have your own little character (called a furre) that you can personalize (colours and what you want it species to be) and then pretty much you can walk around this world (Furcadia) and roleplay and meet people. It's a very simple system, really, but I found it to be a lot of fun. And yes, Furcadia does have a visual system. You get to see your little furre walk around and run into people and stuff. Although signing up can be a real pain in the butt (because sometimes I'd have to uninstall Furcadia and restart my computer before it would let me become part of the Furcadia nation) I really think that if you like furries, roleplaying, and spending incredibly long amounts of time on the internet, then Furcadia is really worth it. This is where you can find information on Furcadia.

But I don't think I'd go to a con for furries. O_o;; No offense, but more often than not people who roleplay furries are pretty yiffy. It gets scary.

Yeah, that was one thing I noticed, too. Yiff seems to be a fairly big part of furry stuff, especially online o_o; I'd still be interested to see what it was like and to meet others who are interested in furdom, but... not for that, really.

I'm hoping to learn to draw furries, but I need to really start practicing. Heh, you need to combine the best bits of human and animal drawing, which can get very complicated. But if done well, can be really really good.

Thanks for the Furcadia info, Sere ^_^ I'll definately look into that, heh.

And hey, if you any of you furrie lovers join Furcadia, look me up! My name is (what else?) Sere Tuscumbia, although you might have to look for me in FurN (Furrabian Nights) and find the "Township of Avalon" dream. (And you might have to be careful in FurN, because it's an R-rated world and some of the dreams are clustered pretty tightly) Hey, I'd love to chat some of you guys up sometime! ^_^

This is how I explain the big part of sexual content in the furdom: Aniamls are sexual creatures. They're not like humans who care about what other think when it comes to who and what they sleep with. If a male dog likes a female, he's going to mate that female...unless some other male dog (or other force) stops him. People who are hard core furry fans, often seeing their Fursona as their alter ego, kindred soul, or creative muse, are very in touch with their character's quite literally animal side, so any physical attration at all is acted upon.

The problem is that most people aren't mature enough mentally to deal with the sexual content in a proper fashion. You don't have to be legally an adult to be able to handle sexual situations. I've been a Furry since I was just about 14 years old...over 4 years. All you have to do is politely decline advances without going "EWWW!!! You want to CYBER?? That's SO GROSS! EEWWWWW!"

I used to do Furc...but the moving around the the character got old real fast. I'd prefer to just type out the fact that my character walked across the room then actually have to move her. And I was gonna say...a dream in Furabian Nights when you're against Yiff? Grand Central Station for all Mature Furcadia players? -shrugs- But whatever.

I've never had any other contact with a furry, so I've never actually been in a situation like that myself.

I can understand what you say, though. And, to be completely honest, I think a lot of the furry art is very good quality, yiff or otherwise. And you're right- they are more sexual creatures, if only because they've not adopted the prohibitions of society to stop them from doing so. I'd probably just feel uncomfortable going somewhere like that. I'm not a heavily sex-oriented person. I like the art, but... yeah.

I was going to start playing Furcadia a couple years ago but I got heavily side tracked with school and another online game I was playing. Also not to mention I wanted to tone up a bit on my drawing skills so I can make my own avatar and such. As for the sexuality or yiff it doesn't bother me I'm not a sexually active person my hormones are dead besides sexuality is part of every species life.

Well excuse me if I'm a prude, but if I'm a virgin offline, I'd like to be a virgin online also. For God's sake, I'm only 16 (ok, so I rounded it). While most other members of my generation are yiffing on the fuggin first date, I'm a bit more mature about that matter. Having sex online is as real as having sex offline. It holds the same consequences. Just because I don't f**k every single person I see is no reason to take that tone with me.

And also, the reason that the Township of Avalon is in FurN (the R-rated area) is because it is a DS guild, and it enforces strict roleplay. As they feel that DS (taken seriously) is not something that should be allowed to the minors, so they are in the area for 18+ years old only. For more information on the Township of Avalon, see here.

*sigh*

--Sere

P.S. And, yes, me being 16 in an 18+ only guild means that I lied about my age. But God knows that I'm good at acting older than my age.

No use for the profanity. You can use the words "cyber," "yiff," "sex," or "intercourse" to bring out the same meaning without using the F word. And I must disagree with you: being sexual with someone online is totally different from real life. There are no worries of a child being born or diseases being passed. Probably another contributing factor for the rampant cyber sessions...but anyway.

I wasn't taking any tone with you. I was mentioning that I raised my eyebrow at your comments, but where you RP and what you say in your posts is your deal. I have no problem with it. And I would appreciate it if you didn't make assumptions about what I do when I role play, because I can assure you I am not a cyber fiend either.

You may want to work on your maturity level, or at least your anger management. Considering your previous post, it looks like they both could use some improvement.

Deal... maturely... with pretending to be an animal and having sex... tell me I'm misreading something here.

There's that side of it, but anything sexual also has the emotional side of it too. Anything that happens online shouldn't be disregarded- it's still 'real', even if it happens to be on the other side of a screen several thousand miles away. So either way, it's still a big jump in a relationship. Even pretending to have sex with someone is a big step, and I'd personally agree with Sere.

I could say the same thing about you, too. No-one's view is absolute or is trying to be enforced as truth, remember. And some people do feel very strongly about these things.

Whatever, wrist cutter. I'm risking sounding like a mod here, but seriously...if you're just gonna poke fun at this, could you please not post in the thread? You're just asking to get people angry about it.
It was a valid post. I'm asking if you're saying what I really think you're saying... I sort of skimmed through before I posted that. I was hoping I had missed something but, apparently not.

But now I'm fully aware of the situation here. I have to say, the cons for people like this must be terrifying.
