Emme888
Hilary Duff!!! UGH!!! She can't sing or act!!! Alright maybe that a little too harsh, she's an actress wannabe singer wishin' she was as talented as J-Lo. Which she is not! She tried the acting thing, but then for some reason thought to try singing! I'm sorry to offend any Duff fans, but I don't think she can sing that well. But I am not cruel person, I will give her her props as an actress, a T.V series and pre-teen/kidie movie is really good. But singing come on! And too make it worse, on TRL the other day, she was beating out quality singers like Mya! Does anyone else understand this maddness? Is it just me who dislikes her sad attempt at singing, or am I insane. :blackeye: punch me and maybe It'll all go away....
Semjaza
I think you're just jealous :p She's popular with kids. Extremely popular. Her show is the number one kids show on cable right now, I believe. That alone explains why she'd get voted for on something like TRL, not that that's known for the best music has to offer as it is. I don't mind her all that much. I don't think she is a bad actor or a bad singer, but she's not great at either. Neither are most other actors her age or singers that sing her style of music. That's mostly thanks to production anyway.
Demonic Angel
I heard in the radio, KIIS FM station, and the DJ said that Hillary Duff sings like Michelle Branch and Avryll Lavigne put together. o.O That's kinda weirdy, but that's what they said. Pagan
This is so true. Look at what happened to the Olson Twins when they started singing and how long did that last. It was cute when they were little but as they grew older it stopped being so cute. That is a major career killer. Her voice is OK and all but it's not good. Why do actors always try to sing and singers try to act Leave the singing to the singers and the acting to the actors. I still love you Hilary but please don't sing any more. P.S.I bought her CD any way
Emme888
And to Demonic Angel...I'm not jealous......I gave her her props....I just think it's sad to see actors/actress doing better at music, when there are bands and singers who have worked harder and are better than an actor/actress getting the votes pruely by their acting fame..... Manic Webb
LOL You seem bitter. Relative to her age group, she's an okay actress. There are plenty of better 16 year old actors out there, but Hilary Duff isn't really that bad, compared to some other teens. Given, her voice acting leaves something to be disired (ie. Animated Lizzy), but she's still on my top 10 list of actresses I'd want to be in a live-action Sailormoon movie. Her singing isn't really that good, but the songs she sing don't really require that much talent... sorta like J.Lo. I think she can and will improve with time... at both. A lot of pop acts have been picking up guitars lately, and if Hilary really commits herself, she's be a decent singer in a few years. She's only 16, and there's still some time left to improve her voice. On that same note, all she has to do is work at acting some more and she'll be a good actress when she's older. In the meantime, if you don't like her songs, change the channel.
MystiqueZeppel
OMG!! SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME!! I hate Hillary Duff, I hate Avril Lavigue, but Michelle Branch is okay I dont even think Hillary Duff is a good actress, let alone a singer! Augh! I hate her so much! She is stupid, The show Lizzie Mcguire is so stupid! I mean it is about a girl, who is unpopoular, even though she is gorgeous, wears designer clothes, has a perfect figure, perfect skin, and and so on. It dont make sense! How can she NOT be popular? So what if she is ditzy, so is everyother girl! Man.. *needed to take out Hillary Duff anger*

Now, personally, don't like her music. Of course, there are four types of music to me -- the kind you hate automatically, and never like, the kind that grows on you, the kind you love but get sick of, and the kind that you'll love forever. And at the moment, I don't know if she's the first or second kind. I find her lyrics to be rather childishly put together. However, her show is for children, and it goes to reason that kids will like her music. Lets face it, she may not be a good singer, but she certainly has a knack for knowing what is good for her career.

She isn't GREAT at singing, but she is ok on some songs I have heard. On the radio in Jacksonville, when I was on vacation, I heard that she is quitting or stopping the Lizzie Maguire TV show on Disney. That is stupid. It is one of the highest rated kids show and I have seen a few episodes and I like it. I didn't hear the reason why she is quitting. Probably because of her singing career or movie career or whatever she is doing now.
XxmagentaxX
I totally agree with you Emme... What is with all these no talent freaks that keep popping up? I mean Avril and Hillary have no talent, I mean Avril is this wannabe punk and hillary is just.... Ok i dont even wanna think about it...
Semjaza
She is quitting because she wanted more money and Disney wouldn't pay it, despite all the money they're making off of her. She is already signed up for a new show on another channel, last I heard. It's not that hard to ignore these people. I don't see why there has to be hate against them on this level. Hell, I don't like Linkin Park at all... but I don't make irrational threads where I just go nuts about how they aren't good enough lol.

As most Disney shows, Lizzy McGuire drives me completely and totally nuts. *shrugs* But, oh well, you know, if she wants to pursue other things than acting, then fine. Just as long as no one forces it on me. --Sere
Justin
Eh, she's OK, as those kinds of acts go. Though, I must agree with whoever said that it stinks when all these awesome bands work so hard and never get half th recognition pop artists do. But that's why they're pop. :) -Justin
James
Originally posted by Emme888 I hate all POP!!!
You do realize that "pop" means "popular", right? That "pop" isn't a genre in and of itself? Does this mean that if you like a song and it becomes popular...you automatically hate it? I get really tired of this kind of stuff. Music is music. You like a song or you don't. Saying that you "hate all pop" is ridiculous for a whole variety of reasons.
Justin
I actually agree with that also, James. And I do know people who instantly shun a band when they become popular. That is, of course, dumb. I really don't cling to one specific genre of music myself. I've always leaned toward alternative, but I'll listen to whatever I like. Shutting something down just because it's a certain type of music is really dumb. But of all the genres, Justin's Music Genre of the Moment is....Scremo! -Justin
James
Yep. And you know what's even funnier? Sometimes someone on here will talk about a song that they see as being "non-pop". Yet, while it may not be popular in America...it might be popular down here. And I'm sure the reverse can also be true. It's hilarious, because they're talking about music that they think isn't pop...yet it actually is. I mean, it's the same with Japanese music. If I say to you "I listen to Japanese music and nothing else", I could still be listening to the Japanese equivalent of Kylie Minogue. So, I guess what I'm saying, is that the whole pop/non-pop thing is utterly ridiculous. That's why I don't like the elitism that also can surround music. Like when someone says "you're a teenie bopper, go away" or something. It's pointless, really. Having an acquired taste in music (especially if it's something that the mass market doesn't appreciate), does not necessarily mean that you're more qualified to tell others that what they listen to sucks. lol I mean, it's all subjective in the end. ^_^

Pop Rock is soft and semi-sweet and Popular Rock are the popular songs of Rock, that have kick a~~ guitars, ballads, and drums. Nomad
So many opinions, heh. My opinion is I hate her music, although she can somewhat act. I don't hate her music because it's pop or whatever you wanna call it. I hate it because of the sound of it. I don't like songs such as "I love you so much, blah blah blah" and "We should be together and we can cuddle yadda yadda yadda." I don't like those type of songs. I don't categorize that type of music as pop, I categorize it in my own way. I like hard heavy music, yeah alot of it can be like "I love you...", but it's not with all the violins, pianos, like guitars, and all that other stuff. I like it if it has loud guitar rifs, bass guitars, drums, screaming, and the overall feel of hate/sadness/pain/etc. But that's my opinion. I don't like people like the wannabe punk rocker Avril, I don't like Britney Spears, I don't like Backstreet, I don't like 98 degrees and all the other music of that sort. If you disagree with me then fine, you can go and sit in the corner and rant and rave all you want. I don't care, people have their own opinions. Some like the music that I don't like, I like music that some people don't like. That's the way it is. And I dunno if I made any sense, or if you stopped reading in the middle or what, but I've said what I wanted to say and now, I'm off. I don't like songs such as "I love you so much, blah blah blah" and "We should be together and we can cuddle yadda yadda yadda."
This is funny. Hilary Duff has two singles. The first, "Why Not," is about being impulsive (not love). Her second single, "So Yesterday," is about breaking up with somebody and holding a grudge. Now, I'm not one to judge, but I think people should actually listen to a song before they decide to hate it. Anyways... Something that bothers me is when people claim to dislike a certain artist/band for certain reasons (which can even be valid at times), but refuse to see if that band has ever made any improvement. At first, I had little or no respect for Britney Spears because she didn't write any of her own songs, she sang the same 'ol love song, and her music sounded the exact same everytime. Then, in her most recent album, she actually wrote her own songs, hired new producers, and changed the subjects of most of her songs. They weren't love songs anymore, but songs about her growing up and gaining some respect. I know what you're thinking, but even in "I'm A Slave For You" she talked about growing up and how she didn't want to be seen as a kid anymore. See, nobody ever pays attention to that stuff, because her first 2 albums sucked. That's why I see things on a song-by-song basis. I have a friend who hates NSync, but likes the new Black Eyed Peas song "Where Is The Love." Even though he likes the song, he refuses to listen to it or get it because Justin Timberlake sings the chorus. I can accept that he doesn't like any of NSync's songs (I know I don't), but should he refuse to listen to a song he likes just because NSync's lead singer is in it? This is why I see things on a song-by-song basis. If I like the song, I like the song. If I don't, I don't. It should be that simple, but there are some people who see an image before they hear a song. Think about that next time you watch MTV. James
I think you raise a very good point there, Manic. I remember watching a little documentary on Christina Aguilera (I hope I spelt her last name correctly). And I was quite surprised at what they were saying...in particular, the way she had struggled for a period of time against those who want to craft a very specific image. I was impressed by some of the things I heard about her (her ability to record one of her tracks without any takes or rehearsal) and so on. I'm certainly not a big fan of Christina, nor do I personally see much merit in her music in general. But I would be ignorant to simply dismiss her as I once did. She's certainly not the most creative woman in the world, but she's a lot more clever and savvy than people have previously given her credit for. And so, that's why, even though I doubt I'd buy her music itself, I still have an increased level of respect for what she does. As for pop being a genre...that's really a wide open question. I mean, Linkin Park was classified as "Pop Rock" in all the music stores here. Yet I originally heard (and still do hear) people saying how "hardcore" and alternative that band is. Obviously it's a relatively mainstream, "pop" band...or it wouldn't be enjoying the success that it has, on a wider basis. Yet, I feel reluctant to say that because there is this negative connotation that goes along with the word "pop". And there shouldn't be. Pop simply means "popular". It's not a derogatory term by any means.
klinanime1
I enjoyed Hilary Duff at first. I thought at first it was great that she was going to sing. Then, I heard her songs. Then I actually watched a show of Lizzie McGuire all the way through. I don't watch Lizzie McGuire or listen to her songs anymore. Still,it's true "pop" doesn't mean the almost sickeningly sweet songs that blond women wearing provocative outfits perform, most likely lip-synching ("Most likely"). It's whatever is deemed popular. Too bad it's become a stereotypical title.
Cocomi Myojin
Let me put it this way...Hilary Duff is a very beautiful person. She brings originality to some of her episode on her show. Like someone in this post said, leave the singing to the singers and the acting to the actors. It doesn't always mean that an actor/singer can't be good at both occupations. Let me dish out a perfect example...hmm...Vanessa williams. She sang 'save the best for last' and played in quite a few Wesley Snipes movies, a picture with Lindsey Lohan (Parent Trap, Freaky Friday), and Halloween. If you ask me, people like her don't always get recognized. (Sorry for getting a little off topic James...^_^X)

She seems sincere in her humility on television and I say best of luck to her. ^_^
