I've heard a lot about this game, inccluding that it comes out in 2004. It's supposed to take place in the jungle, concenterate more on gameplay than cutscenes (like the last two),will be playable on the internet, and is supposed to relate to "back to the origin. Anybody else hear about it?

Yeah. It's in the 60s.

I can't say I care much, but I'm far more interested in this than MGS2. I read the other day that you can strap grenades to animals and send them towards the enemies heh. Don't know how true that is.
Very, very unlikely. I happen to be an MGS veteran and I know Hideo Kojima's style enough to recognize unofficial statements by made-up "employees". ;)

I, for one, am uber-excited about MGS3. Anything you want to know (gathered from IGN's MGS boards) I will be glad to share with you. I highly recommend to download the trailer at Konami's MGS3 site.
1963... I heard that just recently, along with you can eat almost anything and you can throw beehives XD
Well...depending on what you eat...
can negatively or positively affect your health - eat a venomous snake = bad; eat a healthy fish - good; and so on...
Oh, and you can only
shoot the beehives
as of right now. :p

Best release date guess -
November 2004
Yeah, I figured as much lol.

Metal Gear hasn't exactly been my thing for quite a while. I admit the MSX versions are quite good, but that's about all.

I for one really want to get this game. But I would rather find out what happened to Liquid/Ocelot, Snake, Vamp, and Raiden after the events of MGS2. But Im still excited about this.

You all do realize that the chances of the character in MGS3 isnt the Snake we all know and love are very high.

Many people believe that its Big Boss, Snake's father who he was cloned from. The major hint is the fact that the character in the trailer has only one eye

Who else believes this?

Anyway, I too am A metal gear solid vetran, and in Kojima's style isn't anything edible but rations and isn't in a forest. In this game, suspect the unsuspected.
Kojima does not outright lie. He may reveal something to tease or lead someone down a certain mindset, but he does not say something and it turns out to be false. Kojima has confirmed that
2/3rd of the game takes place in the forest and 1/3rd in the main "base," and you will have to hunt to survive.
As for the main character being Big Boss, well, a lot of information has been revealed to make it seem like BB, but, it has neither been denied nor confirmed by Kojima.

Oh, and MGS3 is a direct sequel to MGS2, but not in the traditional sense of "sequel." Kojima means it as the "next" game in the MGS series, not the third in a trilogy to pick up where the last one left off.

Actually, from the E3 2003 packet for both MGS3 and MGS:TTS, there was a cutout from the package that allowed for you to construct
Metal Gear REX, a new Metal Gear, and some spare parts for another "vehicle" or whatnot, as well as making one large tank/vehicle that looks like a nuclear missile launcher. An early version of Metal Gear, perhaps?
As for the newest of new, there is a new trailer out as of yesterday. It is from the ECTS show in Britain, I believe. But, most downloads are in crappy quality and your best bet it to wait for Konami to direct link it.

But, if you *have* to have it, try this one...worked for me...sound sucks, though (background noise > trailer sound) and visual goes down at about 2:30 into it...

Wow, Egret, I'm impressed. You're on top of this game. :D

It's a shame we don't have more members like you. =/

But right, to the topic, MGS3 looks all right to me. Granted, I've never played MGS2 [Was waiting for Substance, and now I can't find it. -_-], but I've been a fan of the MG fame since as far back as I can remember. How can anyone forget the final battle on Snake's Revenge? Sure, not all the stuff in the mix, but it was still fun.

Or my favorite moment in MGS, the first battle with Vulcan? That pure display of limber power? Who thought Snakes could jump over ten feet backwards and like six feet in the air?

The scene where Meryl gets shot? Wolf's death? The explination of Snake's past through Liquid? The fact that if you look around during that cutscene Liquid says something along the lines of "They're not there; I took your weapons."?

I doubt that short of adding flying pink rats the size of panda bears and random, disfigured Pokemon and Jar-Jar Binks, there will never be a way to completely ruin a MG game.

Heh, enough nostalgia, eh?

If there was MGS3 Online, it would be a bit hard with the game's semi stand-and-rotate control scheme, and it's limited camera [aside from hounding on FP mode], it would be like playing SOCOM with GTA2's angle, almost.

Either way, I'm thrilled to see this game will be out as soon as November after next. Now, if only I could find Substance...

Try best buy. they have it for 15-20$.

There is also supposed to be a stalking or following mode and an energy gauge that decreases faster when you use it. I heard something about the build thing, but I never put any thought into it. If it is Big boss who you play as, I think it's gonna be really weird knowing that you'll kill the hero later on. (or earlier on, depending how you look at it.)

MGS3: SE is a prequel sequel - now, what that means is it will display the contents of the past, yet "advance" the series, i.e. it may lead into MGS4. Hopefully, that will pick up where MGS2 left off -
The Patriots mystery, Ocelot, Olga's Child, Raiden's future, etc.
As for MGS: Online, well, not much has been mentioned other than that Kojima said it was ready to go but wanted to "spice" it up. It will more than likely be a FPS, but, I have a suspicion third-person will be included but with a more limited view screen (to keep stealth intact...sort of...)

And, yes, the OB needs some more MGS fans!

New trailer. For some reason it's labeled as a Twin Snakes trailer in WMP, who knows why. It's about 22 MBs and 5 minutes long. Not as washed out as the Twin Snakes trailer, and sounds great.

Trailer is odd. The game looks awesome, but the song at the end kind of threw me off. Like 60s James Bond themes lol.

Heh, I know why - because the game takes place in the
1960's, thus the James Bond-like song.
That is actually the ECTS trailer as a direct feed.

There was much speculation that there would be a special "extended" version for TGS, but that is not true.

I was expecting a line of dialogue or something. *Sighs* Onto E3 2004. It is going to be a LOONG 9 months...:(

As for the trailer itself, I was impressed. The environments are just so vast. "Snake" looks frickin' awesome. Everything looks really textured, and detail is not spared (the blades of grass, man, the blades of grass!). November 2004 is so far away...

*Sobs in a corner*

I've heard alot of the game, but I can't say I heard it being online.

Also they are saying your not snake your big boss who is identical to snake.....
The online portion is seperate from MGS3. It is tentatively titled, "Metal Gear Online." According to Mr. Kojima, it is ready to ship today, but he wants to make it "unique" in the online world.

As for the main character's identity...all clues point to
Big Boss
, but you never know. Mr. Kojima is infamous in changing things up and ushering your mind to think a certain way...
