Roxie Faye
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel That has absolutely nothing to do with my point. I personally know plenty of people right there and some that were even in it, rather than simply close to it. It doesn't matter because that wasn't part of my post. The fact of the matter is that that incident has nothing to do with this blackout in any respect. Any damn thing I read about New York in terms of anything has to make a reference back to 9-11 for no apparent reason etc.
Well sorry for not, by osmosis, realizing you were targeting the media, and not realizing that you weren't knocking off the significance or 9/11. From your other post, it seemed to me, that you just didn't care that New Yorkers went through 9/11. Though I know now, you weren't acting that way, I didn't, when I responded to your point. I do agree the media is making so many references to it, and it is quite annoying, but then again, how could they not? That, I believe, was the largest single attack on the United Sates, ever. But yeah, it's annoying. I'm just glad that your opinion was "get over 9/11". Thank you. ^_^;;; (*coughi'mcrazy@_@cough*)
Originally posted by Shinobi1827 Forgive me if this ha already been answered, I haven't read it all; I don't feel like reading it all, hence i won't. From what i heard, it was not a lightning strike. Something happened in it, and they had to shut it down. It was not in Canada, it was Con Ed Power Plant in New York... ...If you?re wondering how i know this, my brother-in-law is the number one stress technician in his company, which means he knows all this stuff about it. He works in power plants all the time *blush* *boast mode off*
I apologize for my early assumption, because I was going by what I personally heard on the radio, and the early 9:00 News, when I got my own power back. Currently, I'm going to withdraw finger pointing, because it's a fat lot of help, really. The NYC Mayor, Bloomberg, I guess, was told that it happened where I said it was, and then the Toronto Mayor started publicly yelling at America saying "WHEN HAVE THEY EVER TAKEN THE BLAME FOR WHAT THEY DO?", when I don't think Bloomberg spontaneously started fingerpointing, he was misinformed. lol. No one really knows where it started, and the US and Canadian governments are going to try and work together to look into what happened. Because so far, I've heard... *counts* five different version. So I'm sorry for my early judgements, but at the time when I just got my power back, the only two versions I'd heard were the ones I mentioned. It's the early, unclear details, you know? And it's alright to boast about where your brother-in-law works. If a family member of mine was the number one in something, you've bet I'd boast about it. Because it's nice to be really super good at something. :)
Originally posted by BabyGirl I do find it a tiny bit ridiculous how easily the press seemed to forget about the other mertopolitan areas affected by the blackout. The other cities and surrounding suburbs had weather just as hot, and millions of people were caught without power there, too. Detroit residents didn't even get their electricity restored until later than NYC's...but ah well, I suppose New York City has earned itself some fame over the years :)
I don't know what newspaper you read, but that is not entirely true. Both my newspaper, and the television here isn't forgetting cities like Detroit and Cleveland. In fact, I know that Cleveland had a water problem, and that it wasn't safe to drink. And oddly, I wondered how Nersey would cope. I didn't forget about Ohio. I also knew that Detroit didn't get the power restored until later, and a lot of people were waiting for a long time for gas. And I saw the pictures too, of disgruntled customers waiting for gas, and others trying to get their money out of banks. To me, it seemed like everyone there was angry about the power outages, including the Mayor, when the Detroit government officials didn't set up any ways to cope, if their city was hit by terrorists(or in this case, a lack of something vital), and look what happened to them. NYC, too, has been on an Orange status since 9/11. However, and non-sarcastically, I would like to know, truthfully, what the reactions of many citizens in Detroit were, to the black out; because there is, I believe a large possibility that I am mistaken in my assumption of the reaction of Detroiters. And I believe you live there, or close by, in any case, so you could tell me better, how reactions were. ^_^
Originally posted by DeathKnight PS. I'm sure that San Antonio feels like home to you, and you're probably a little proud of San Antonio too. And in the event that you don't like where you live, Well though noogies because I like where I live by. And when you like where you live, you take pride in it. So I'm entire sorry for voicing my opinion about something I feel strongly about, Ken. I'll be sure not to do it again, JUST so that you don't get bothered by it.

Not really. I moved here was I was 8, remember? And the circumstances I was forced to relocate under were interesting. San Antonio has good food, however. Chicken Fajitas, represent.
And in the event that you don't like where you live, Well though noogies because I like where I live by
I'm glad we agree. I like where you live by too. When I was in New York I loved it- absolutely adored it. I'd actually enjoy living there someday. There were some nice people there, some people who should be run over by a car- but it felt normal to me. I guess i'm missing what i'm supposed to be takeing pride in. The populace? Or the inanimate buildings? It was a city.. a city that was easily wounded, like any other city- a city that could easily be destroyed, if circumstances rolled the dice that way. To me if you want to take pride in something, a city somehow seems.. silly and childish. That of course is my opinon. Takeing pride in a city and its people is your decison, and more than likely the path most taken.
And when you like where you live, you take pride in it.
It cant be as simple or mundane as that, can it?
I'll be sure not to do it again, JUST so that you don't get bothered by it.
Oh? Your call. But, I wasn't bothered. I wrote that PS message grinning at your post if anything else. Hmm. Pride is alright. Being overzealous isnt.. in my book, anyway.
Baron Samedi
IwakuraLain, Ryan. sorry bout mah post, I ws kinda bitter, but You are right, I know little about America and New York. I live in a small town in Aus. the electricity bills are paid (so BLAH to you Ryan ;)) But the power just goes out sometimes. Sorry if i offended anyone, and I know it would be a big deal in a big city... Just in a critical mood. I just didnt think it would need a huge reaction, but on review it is a fairly big thing to haopoen. I mean, what, 8million people in NY,NY? That is a lot of people. Please Excuse my bluntness before.

Guest Sharpie
I was in Syracuse with cousins(still am) at the time of the blackout, and we just got heavy brown outs, we never totally lost power.
Rhys Mayiessen
I find it funny how people can totally forget that its happened in Canada (except for "oh yeah it happened in Canada too") yet you people blame it on us. Actually it was more of Canada that was affected than the states because for us the whole province of Ontario (and for people who don't know a province is a lot bigger than a state) was blacked out. Where I live (a part of Toronto) we did not have power for 30.5 hours and who knows now. I'm not in Toronto anymore. I'm in Minnisota. Ah well at least everything is sorted out now and people now know that it wasn't Canada who did this.
