Fyxe
Well, sometimes it seems that as you get older you get dumber. I mean when I was younger I was much smarter, in school anyway. I still get passing grades, but... like 3rd-6th I was like at the top of my class, but now I'm dumb! I think I like my new and dumber self better.:bellylol: Bleh.. back in those grades I though getting a B was a bad thing. Now my normal grade is like a C. So what were you like? Have you gotten dumber? Do you like your smarter or dumber self? This may seem like a stupid question... but hey, I'M STUPID, YAAAAAAAAY!!!! Trigun 11
I've gotten both smarter and dumber... I know it's weird.. I was a straight A student ever sense I was younger but I've been getting C's and D's since 6th. My mother says that I can do it but I'm just not trying hard enough. " If you read a High School Biology book when you were in Kindergarten, You can handle this stuff" - Quote from my mother
amibasuki
crud, I could've skipped kindergarten if my parents had let me :p. last year I was lucky I got a low B in biology. most of the academic awards I've gotten came from when I was in elementary school and the first year or so of middle school. then I had a particularly bad spot in 8th grade, which lingered a little bit in my freshman year as well (luckily I held onto all B's and A's, barely). it wasn't because I had gotten dumber or anything *shuts Anna and Deedlit in a closet before they can say anything*, I just really slacked off. although ever since I started reading manga, my reading speed has dropped through the floor. I think I've shaped up a bit this year though, so hopefully my grades will improve this year.
Semjaza
I think I'm far smarter now... the thing is that I no longer care. When I was younger, I just had a different opinion of the world and school in general. I wanted to try and do well and everything else. At this point I feel like I'm just going through the motions. I've become jaded and tired of the whole machine I'm stuck in. Doesn't mean I don't get good grades, just means I'm not as great academically as I used to be. A 3.6 GPA isn't too bad for someone who kind of just wanders around aimlessly lol.
Guest Forbidden One
Personally I think it varies from person to person. Some of us just naturally tune out of studying and focus more on our personal lives which hinders our success in school. However as for myself I'm not one to get detracted by my studies easily. In high school I was straight down to business and had no time for a relationship in my life. Now I'm a rather successful university student that is still achieving high grades. So it all depends on the person you are and how much you are willing to give up for the advancement of your studies and work life.
Zen
I ahve gained Wisdom and lost intellegence. I know more about the real world and philosphy, but get c-f s instead of straight A's as i once did. Heh, kinda weird. I have also become much more physically fit and braver and more self confident. Dragon Fou Lu
at one point i got smarter but then i just suddenly got dumber :( not like i was a "straight A" student or anything but i was improving anyways. :(
Kitty
Okay, most people try to kill me when I talk about this, so it's a good thing this is online. When I was little, preschool through 6th grade, I got mostly A's. Several times I got B's, but that's normal. So back then I was a pretty good student. That all changed when middle school started... Now I get mostly B's and C's. If I hadn't scratched my Intro to Algebra grade up to a B minus, I would've had to repeat it!! I did NOT want to do THAT!! So, with LOTS of hard work for the last four weeks of school, I managed it. I think I got a couple of A's, too... So, to answer your question plain and simple, I think I might've gotten a BIT stupider, but that's what happens. Oh well. Darn. I'm still just your average girl. That sucks. I wanted to be special!! :bawl: The thing is though, I'm smarter than ALL of my friends. I find that VERY creepy... o_O;; ~Laterzez!!~
Guess?
I got way stupider in school as i got older, but much smarter in things im actually going to use in my life, like never eat paste...
Fall
When I was in primary school, I was very smart. Not so smart that I was above everyone else, but I'd get As and Bs alot in my reports. Now that I'm Year Nine, I've got alot worse. Year Seven was a bad year, not grade wise, but reputation wise. Alot of things turned me upside down, and I got to point of not caring about work at all. Year Eight, the same, except it had nothing to do with my reputation. I just didn't care, for no particular reason. Now I'm half-way through Year Nine, and I'm starting to realise I have to pick up my working habbits and grades, to get further than I'm on the track to be. I've actually made a signed contract with the year co-ordinator, that I finish every assignment from no to the end of the year, aswell as every bit of class homework. Heh, we'll see how long I can go before breaking it.
eleanor
I've actually stayed the same. In elementary school, I got all A's or my mom would kill me. So when I got to middle school I did the same. My mom got even more harsh in seventh grade because I started taking two high-school classes [algebra and Spanish], and I barely got an A in algebra since I never studied. :/ But anyways...my mom has gone mental this year since I'm taking Geometry now and she wants me to get above 95. ::scratches head:: Dunno if I'll be able to do that. Lol...I also have to study for science a bit if I want to get good grades in it, and same goes for Spanish, lol. Everything else is fine with me, though. I've never really had to study LA and SS.
Shinmaru
Well, I was like pretty much everyone else getting A's and B's in Elementary School. Then, when I entered Middle School, I entered my infamous "stupid phase," where I got mostly C's. Actually, my GPA wasn't too bad (mostly hovered between a 2.5 and a 2.8), but it wasn't up to the grades I got in Elementary School. When I got to High School, I suddenly started to get much better grades. I still haven't been able to figure out why to this day. If possible, I'm actually a bit lazier than I was in Middle School. I've gotten smarter, I suppose, but laziness and intelligence were never a really good combonation lol. So, I've decided to stop worrying about it and go along with it. It's not like I'm gonna figure it out anytime soon lol.
Ryan
I think I have gotten smarter. I have learned things that I wouldn't have been able to learn when I was a lot younger. I still get straight A's and have never gotten a B before in my life. I know that I won't care about it in the future, but right now I want to do my best so that hopefully in high school I can be really good and hopefully go to a good college. ;)
lea
well, i dont think grades are very important (as long as you get good enough to pass, its ok) my ideals kinda conflicted with my mom's, though......^_~
Sara
I knew different things when I was little. When I was in first grade, I could tell you how many teeth a certain shark might have in its lifetime, explain the differences between a brontosaur and a brachiosaur (and many, many others), tell you more about different kinds of butterflies than you would ever want to know, give a brief report on the government of Thailand, and name every color, by sight, in the big Crayola box of some ninety crayons. I never felt smart, though. I knew what I liked, and I knew a lot about it...but I had no self-confidence in any school class (except art. There are no words to express how much I loved art class.) I remember nearly crying in second grade math because of how incompetent I felt. It's not that I was bad at math, exactly...it's just that everyone else was so much better than me. (Particularly this girl Erin, who sort of became my idol.) I started third grade at a new school (to be with my sister), and suddenly, everything was different. I was the "smartest" kid in the class, and I really didn't get why. I didn't really realize it until a few years ago, but I was at the first school as part of a gifted program. / So at my new school, I was really smart. At my old school...I was just like most of the other kids. The biggest thing I didn't understand, for severall years, was the difference between adjectives and adverbs. / You could look at my English papers, and see page after page of 98s and 95s, and then you would come across the lesson or two each quarter devoted to the difference between adjectives and adverbs, and the page would be full of pen marks. It somehow clicked in seventh grade, though. So I went through five years of being hailed as the smartest person in the class, and I hated it. (The other smart kids didn't take too kindly to it, either.) I was "valedictorian" of my eighth grade class (not that it was really big.../) and that was it. 9th grade year, I started at a new school...with a lot of the same people...but no one marked me as smart anymore. When people wanted help, they went to someone else. When someone wrecked the grade curve, it was blamed on another kid, not me. There was a brief period of a few days, after I got my ACT results, when everyone "remembered" how smart I was. But it faded away quickly. Senior year starts next month, and I'm still at the top of my class. But no one seems to realize it except me, and one of my friends--who's now second. None of my classmates cares. It's a good feeling, really.
Shinmaru
That's actually a very good point that I had forgotten about. I'm probably one of the smarter people in my class (when I put my mind to it), but I'm rarely asked for help. There's this one girl in my class; I'm probably as smart as her, but she works way harder than I do, and as a result, is a better student. She is the one constantly badgered for help and I can just sit back and concentrate on my own work. Hell, I don't need the attention; if I had to deal with that everyday, I'd go crazy. To this day, I don't know how she manages to do all that and still be a nice person. Oh well.
Mitch
Hm. I don't think "smartness" has to do with books and learning pointless information about this world that we as men have discovered. I think it's more or less just common sense, and being good at whatever you're good at. That's smart and defines it well. When you are a child, you do not realize a lot of the troubles and things with this world. You simply live, and you are so very happy usually. Smarter when I was younger? Well, in a "school" sense, I don't think so. I have never really liked school much ever. I find it mostly a pointless waste of time. What Tony said is exactly how I feel: I don't feel like I'm doing anything that will matter; my will to do it is far away. I'm just going through the motions, and doing as the societal machine says I should do. As for the way I think of smartness...everyone definitely is more smart in that definition of it when they are older. When you're born, you quickly learn everything about common sense you need to know. The basics, I guess. When you put your hand in fire, it hurts. So you don't put it back in ever again. Same thing with a million of other things. We call up our memories of these, and through this information, we make a decision. And through that we make choices, wrong or right. You also quickly learn to behave. You don't stare at people in public. You don't burp in front of people. All of that. And so on. The thing is, when you're younger, you're simply doing what you're told to make your parents accept you for who you are. When you're older, you do it more for yourself, or others. I'd say a lot of people would rather just be a child again. Sometimes I do too. But this is what knowing more and more does to you. It makes you want to know what it felt like to be surprised with the world, to actually feel like it means something to be alive. To have the thrill of learning something so very interesting and new. That doesn't happen often to me anymore. School is just mostly poinltess crap I'd rather not learn. And the classes I do love, I love them as hard as I can, and get good grades. But the classes I hate I often cannot stand, and it takes a lot of effort to force myself to do good. But otherwise that, I still get pretty good grades I guess. I got a B in every class. But I don't want to excel in school...it sure would open a lot of potentials--scholarships, mainly...but I'm just too sick and tired of so many things to care.
lea
mitch, i agree with you. its kinda like how i feel when i was four, i would think deep thoughts...i would try to contemplate how god came into existince ( dont do it, it hurts your brain, thinking of that. its too big for our minds to comprehend) i used to think that when you breathed out, some tiny little atoms of you would go into the air, too, and when you breathed in, you breathed in millions of little particles that came from billions of other people.... and when you drink water, you;re drinking water that used to be dinasoure pee (purified, of course) i never shared these thoughts with anyone, because maybe they arent true, and they do seem kinda weird (especially the last one)
Moor_Child
I don't think I got dumber, I just got lazier. I got sick of school and doing pretty much the same thing for years and years, so I stopped doing most of my homework in 5th grade, by 8th I did hardly any of it. But in junior high I think they want you to pass so they go really easy. Then when I came to high school I found out you don't do homework you don't pass. So by becoming lazier I became dumber. Baron Samedi
My mum cares more about comments than marks... But in Primary School, I was top of my class for almost everything asdie from Japanese and sport. Got real good marks heaps. Year 8 was pretty bad. i was too lazy. Im doing better in yr 9, but im still too lazy, but im getting good marks now.
Guest yalborap
Stayed the same. But I DID skip the 5th grade for messing with girl's heads, so that is one big plus! animeforever105
Well I've gotten smarter but my ability to understand has lowered.I got straight A's when I was little and I still do (well,ok, I have 1 B) I did have a C in Science at the beginning of the year but that was bcuz what we were studying was boring.I brought it up to an A but Algebra began to confuse me so that lowered to a B.I don't know how I got an A in English cuz I hated it and I sucked at Vocab.I guess that came up in the end as well.So I think I'm smarter it's just becoming more confusing. I think it's just harder for older people to remember things as fast as younger people. And then again, there always people who are quite the opposite.
