Hey mods, admins, and members of OB, i have a question.

How did you get so many members? I mean, this board has been around for quite a while, but still. 5 thousand freagin' members. The most i've ever pulled on a board after 8 months was 12 people. I've put eerything i could evr want on it, stuff that i don't want but helps, stuff you have, stuff you don't have, etc. I got 12 people, and all of them i asked to join except the 12th one. I advertized on OB (in sig), asked friends, asked friends to ask freinds, then asked my friend's friends to join it. still, 12 people.

(self rant mode off)

how do i do it? What do you think helped ob do it?

-nate

(Ps: I wasn't sure if this would go under the Suggestions of OB lounge...*sigh*)

There is no surefire way of setting up a sucessful website. If there were... every site would be sucessful.

I rarely give a website more than a glance unless:

-It looks professional. Not some stupid EZ Board.

-It deals with a topic I am interested in. You shouldnt have to look far for this.

-It's easy to find. Try to get linked to as much as possible.

Other than that, I can't help you.

I can only add to that by saying that OtakuBoards is closely linked with theOtaku.com.

theOtaku.com's success is what originally drove OB's growth. And, to some extent, theOtaku.com's community has been sourced from OB. OtakuBoards' community really helped to push myOtaku, for example.

I think that mostly, you have to have good quality content. And you have to be able to push your site. OtakuBoards has never needed any advertising, because we've been directly affiliated/linked with theOtaku. And, theOtaku.com is a much bigger site than OtakuBoards. The regular visitor base for theOtaku.com is many times what we get here.

But yeah, as Boba said...there is no surefire way. You just have to work hard and develop your ideas.

One simple word: Advertising

Yes, a strange concept for the net, but still true. Never doubt the power of advertisements. First there is Google, upon which this site lists high up (IIRC). Then there is word of mouth. If not for someone else telling about this site I may not have found it. Even something as simple as a small, personal site having a link here could draw in many people.

The other half is the human factor. The Mods/Admins run this site well. They may anger some people by banning them for not listening, but such things have kept the site from total chaos. Also the people here keep each other in line. If someone gets out of hand, or makes a mistake, they let each other know. Most of the members here are very polite. Those things have made the board an enjoyable place for people of many age ranges.

That is just my take on it.
