You're not quite grasping the concept here James. The point I'm trying to make here is that we have untapped potential. Some of which can be used to do taht. Physics. Physics have nothing to do with it. The mind can exert power, obviously. Or maybe you've never meet people with forceful character.
That doesn't make any sense. Telekinetic power is an act of physics...it's an act of movement and physical manipulation.

Having a forceful character has absolutely nothing to do with the ability to project telekinetic force and manipulate an object. I still don't see how a person's brain can physically affect objects that surround it.

If you talk about untapped potential of the brain, I'd only say that it would relate to the ability to memorize things...or to perform very complex mathematics. But I can't see any way for a lump of flesh in your skull to magically maniuplate objects that sit on the other side of the room. lol

And why we can't accept what we "think" is impossible. Humans always fear the unknown, or dismiss it as pure fantasy. Which also explains a few wars and ethnic cleansings.

That still doesn't make sense. lol

Firstly, this whole 10% figure is a myth. I don't even know where it came from. You have to remember that your brain is divided into different areas for different functions. Part of your brain is responsible for conscious thought. Yes, not all of it is responsible for that. But that doesn't mean that the rest of your brain is doing nothing; the rest of your brain is responsible for motor functions, sensory, digestion and dozens of other things.

Nobody has yet explained any justification for this idea that a muscle inside your skull can cause objects to move. You can sit there and say "well, there's potential" or "you simply can't accept it because you think it's impossible"...but there's no justification or rationalization there.

I can use the same type of argument with those who believe in telekinesis. I can say that those people are disregarding physics simply because it is inconvient and clashes with their romantic thoughts about the supernatural.

Did you ever consider that what you're doing may go along with what she's saying? It seems like you're looking for an excuse, or rather "justification or rationalization" for something you believe is impossible.

Just a thought. :whoops:

Yes, I did consider that. lol

But I could use her point of view to tell you, with all seriousness, that pink elephants fly around in the clouds each day. Would you believe it? No, probably not.

We do live in a world based on certain natural rules/laws. It's very easy to shrug something off and say "Oh well, you just don't get it because you're thinking in a three dimensional way". It's easy because it requires no effort, no logic and no reason. And no evidence.

With that standard, I could create dozens of threads about all sorts of things that I could claim to be true, but which I most likely have zero evidence of. I could go on, but I'm sure you know what I mean here. ^_^

Ok, let me see if I can help Raiha out here... You have your brain, you have different planes, you have your seven levels of conciousness. To move something in the physical plane/realm (what we see, touch, etc.) is to move something in every other realm/alternate universe-type thing. I may sound like a loon when I say this, BUT, everything gives off energies that are attatched to it, with the power of the mind, you're not actually touching the object itself with the mind's force, but rather grabbing the energies that pull the object. It's kind of hard to explain... But do you follow so far?

Oh man...I really don't think I can go down this path. lol

Different planes? Alternate Universes?

I would sit here and discuss the theories of alternate Universes with you...but I fear that it might lead to discussions of people jumping through a vortex in their fridge and appearing outside Papa Smurf's house.

I had some small hope that you wouldn't point that out. :p

Bleh-heh. :D

Yeah, what can I say. Hehe.

This whole discussion reminds me of a TV show I was watching, which investigated psychics. They spoke to a woman who could see auras...and she explained how man used to have a third eye (ie: cyclops) and how it was linked to the ability to see auras and so on.

Very similar to what is being spouted here. You know, the whole "altenrate universes that you can't see and that nobody can explain but that exist regardless" trick. And yet, predictably enough, an optometrist could explain the optical illusions that make up an "aura". It was quite simple, and quite logical.

And, bear in mind that Harry Houdini disproved spirit mediums just after World War II ended. The only reason they rose to prominence again during WWII and later was because Houdini died. He wasn't there to push the case against tricksters who preyed on the grief of ignorant people.

I only got involved in this conversation for the entertainment value. lol

I wouldn't even waste my time to seriously debate over something like telekenesis. I wish I could remember the name of the show I was talking about earlier. It's something that everyone should watch if they get the chance. It's very interesting.

Lmao James... But you know, I think Raiha and I could debate this against [strike]everyone[/strike] almost everyone and come out on top either because they finally believe, got annoyed and quit, or just simply didn't want to debate. But back on topic...

Psychics, Telekinesis, Extra Sensory Preception, Spirit Mediums, etc... Sure they can seem like a waste of time and completely fake, but I believe them to exist. Two of the four have been proven. There are cameras that can actually take a picture of an Aura, detect energies flowing between things, etc... but I think those are really overrated. Well, that's me...

None of the above have been proven. And cameras that take pictures of aura are not actually taking a picture of your aura. lol

Once again, I point to the little documentary I was watching. I think it was a New Zealand-based TV show. Very interesting stuff. I don't even remember the name, so I can't really give you any recommendation to see it...but, it definitely explains quite a few things. And surprisingly, it attempts to look at both sides seriously. Of course, reason ends up coming out on top.

Rippley's Believe It Or Not. Plenty of stuff like that.

I never bothered rationalizing this whole telekenesis thing. It's very similar to religion. Does God exist? I can't see him, so he's not there.

But think about the counter argument: "You can see the effects of the wind but you can't see the wind." What then? You can see people manipulate objects with their mind but you can't see how.

Uh... yeah tattoi...

Well, on auras and stuff like that. You see, our bodies emit elecromagnetic waves, and minor... radiations of sorts. So when a camera is taking a picture of a person with an aura, they are actually taking a picture of that. That, and many pictures seem to show stuff that really isn't there.

Now, I've walked down the street, maybe going to a fast food resturant. Then another person headed the opposite way walks by me. This person has this evil eyes, this attitudinal walk. You can feel the evil presance in this person. You know that she is making plenty of peoples lives hell. She gets a demented entertainment from the suffering and torture of others.

How did you know that? Well, many peole belive that this 6th sense is actually what you pick up from other 5, or 3 senses that you don't realize. See how I mentioned the evil eyes, and that walk. Just from those things that you saw, you can tell that that was a bad person. What you wouldn't really notice is the shape of the face, and how she carries it. Her posture. Misclanious things such as cloths, and makeup.

You see, you think that you can actually feel the dark energy from this person. You aren't. You can just see those things. So your mind puts those things together, and makes an assumption.

Telekenisis is the power to manipulate objects mentally. Telepathy would allow me to know your password, Social Security number, IP address, real address, phone number, and passport files. And I looked in the spot with the fan with a flshlight, and not one bug or cobweb.:P But, I do believe that it's possible to "feel" this aura. A lot of people on another message board can see it.

Well, Mr. I exist in more than one dimension freak.

That existing in more than one dimension does have some basis, like some of my spirit/soul arguement. However, only humans exist in another dimension. Inanimate objects could not possibly have an energy. They could not exist in another dimension for they are nothing more than solid matter. A matter with no energy. Sure, some radioactive metals have some energy, but they are radioactive because they are losing their energy. That would mean that eventually they could not be lifted. Also, since you brain is composed of pretty much matter with electricity running through it, it could not exist in another dimension. Also, how could this "other dimension" allow you to move the objects. By focusing all your "energy" on an object, it does nothing. But you claim that if you do it in corrosponding dimensions focusing on the same object, it would still do nothing. For IF you were to physically exist in aother dimensions, so would that object. So in reality multiple forms of you are focusing "energy" on the same multiple object, meaning that nothing will still happen.

And you are not focusing your energy on an object. You are only focusing your attention to it.

However, this aura can be derived from the other senses, and nothing else. For instance, one psychologist took a whole bunch of people who claimed that they could see auras. He then said "If I were to step behind this wall, you would still be able to see my aura. Now, where am I standing behind this wall?" He then walked behind the wall, which was quite large mind you. None of the aura sensors could find him, simply because they couldn't feel his aura, simply because in order to feel the aura, or even see it, you must actually BE seeing, or feeling him directly. Mostly with sight.

EDIT: Now, with Uri Geller who claimed that he could bend spoons with his mind, and did so in front of live audiences. At the hieght of his fame, he appeared on the Johnny Carson show. As a joke, Johnny switched the spoon he normally used, with another one. Then when Geller tried to bend the spoon on the show, he couldn't!

Now, many of you are going to say that he could only focus on that specific spoon that he was using. But why not other spoons? They are all the exact same thing. They are all made of stainless steel metled together to form a utensil for scooping up food and putting it in your mouth. Simply put, he had rigged the spoon so he could Fake bending the spoon, by using a string, actually.
