Shinkoru
Heres the thing, Today I went swim suit shopping, yes I know its kinda late but still. By the time I was finished, I felt horrible, my self esteme had dropped to zero and my Ego is two inches tall and badly bruised. I was wondering, why does soceity put sooo much emphasis on how people look? I mean if people were nicer and looks didn't matter as much then slightly over weight people wouldn't be embarrsed to show themselves in public. I'm 16 and afraid to tell people my weight which I admit is a bit over, i weight 138, but still. I'm fairly attractive (sp?) and usually am told I'm pretty and look nice. But yett swim suit shopping destroys me. I would like your imout and opinions on this. Don't you agree less emphasis needs to be put on looks and more on the person? I mean sure my thighs may look eatroshous but, I'm still a great person to hang with, ya know? Please respond. Thank you.

Kahlan
i weigh 146 and people call me a model. When i tell people my weight my normal excuse is my muscles. i play 2 sports, and i need muscles in order to achieve my goals. so technically its more than just an excuse. Its the truth. I've learned not care what people think of me. It took a long time, but i'm now in a serene state of mind where only pleasant thoughts roam. Lol j/k. but seriously though, don't think about what others think. It gets confusing after a while :cross:
PiroMunkie
I always say the more there is to you, the more there is to love. (in which case I am screwed >.>) Of course less emphasis should be put on how people look, but there is not much we can do about it except keep not focusing on it and hope that when it is our turn to govern this country that things change even just a little bit. Focus on appearance is really an age old concept, though. It is not just now that it has become known.
wrist cutter
If you're not happy with your weight, then lose it. Especially if you're at 138. Just cut out all the snacks in your diet, and maybe watch what you eat a little more carefully. You'll drop a few pounds from doing this and be down to a more ideal weight. I was in your situation awhile ago. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look fit - I think everyone wants it. You get a sense of accomplishment once you have reached a better weight and will feel significantly better about yourself. The thing is, you should feel comfortable with yourself. If you don't, there's a problem. And personally I can't understand how anyone would be entirely comfortable with their weight if they were very overweight. Looks are important. However, it's not as subtle as many people think. Dropping from 138 pounds to, say, 120, will make very small noticable differences - but you will feel much better anyway. Baron Samedi
They don't matter. If they judge you by your weight, then they don't matter. Just think, that if they are so shallow, then they don't deserve to know you. Try cutting down on your weight, if it upsets you so greatly. You shouldnt have to, but if it makes you feel more comfortable.... go for it.
Raiha
Oh gee wristcutter, real way to get to a girls' heart there. I reccomend excercise, not lack of food, and ignore the swimsuit ****. I hate doing it, so I buy speedo one piece, black thingys. One piece is flattering, nothing hangs out and nothing gets shoved into awkward positions. Black always makes you look thinner, and it accentuates good curves. That last part does only two good things for me. Then again, I have very little to stress over, except my lack of chest. I'm 5'6", 116lbs., and slender. The people who do swimsuits generally aim at the people built like me, so your best bet is to tell people that look down on you are asses and have low self esteem; they make fun of you. So in conclusion: "Buy a one-piece and be flattered."
Valen
You [beep] wrist cutter... But, you are right. Dannimal, let me tell you something... most guys like girls your size better than they do all the "model figure" girls. It's just nasty. (No offense D--Raiha) You're beautiful the way you are. Just be yourself and don't worry about your weight...
Guest yalborap
You know what, maybe I'm just insane, or I haven't hit pubery yet(I'm 11.), but I don't give a **** about a girl being skinny. Ilike them everage. Everything nice and straight, with little curves. The kind of person who pays attention to their diet to keep it in control, but doesn't eat like one breadstick a month. I think about what they're like more than what they LOOK like. Of course, like I said, I could just be insane, or not have hit puberty or something. Epid3mic
Originally posted by Raiha I reccomend excercise, not lack of food"
Actually, scientifically speaking, if she truly wanted to lose weight, a good diet is better than exercise. When you exercise, you gain more muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Of course this doesn't go for everyone, but on average, it's more effective. Shinkoru, I agree, society does put alot of emphasis on how people should look, and not only on women. But, I mean, if people already tell you you look pretty, what do you have to worry about? Corey
Technically, I'm severely overweight. I am about 240lbs and 6'2". However, I bike long distances and swim laps. I have biked up to seventy miles in a day for three days straight. Usually I bike about five ot ten in a given day. I am very fit, dispite my weight. My suggestion to you, stop caring how you look. If someone goes after you simply because you look like a 'model', they're going after you for the wrong reasons. You look perfectly fine. Now stop thinking about society and concentrait on more important things... Like Phantom.
Guest Forbidden One
Well sorry to hear your confidence is broken however if your really insecure about your weight just lose a bit of it. As I learned in Anatomy Eat Less and Do more, and you'll be able to drop a couple of pounds. Though I have to agree I hate the fact society lables people on looks and appearances. Because of that that stereotyping though I was able to mold myself into a very decent built for my height.
Guest Magdalena
Why do girls care about their weight all the time? Swimsuit shopping shouldn't kill you... You obviously enjoyed the food you were eating when you consumed it, so don't stress about the consequences that come with it. You should enjoy your body... No matter the weight... I love mine, and I'm chubby. I still get to wear what I want(mind you I'm a conservative dresser.. hoodies, tshirts, jeans....) and still get to wear that bathing suit that looks great on me. Maybe finding a bikini that works with your curves will bring up your self esteem

Guest Magdalena
Well if they aren't going to acknowledge the consequences and konw what could happen, maybe they shouldnt do it then.
Delian
Honestly you should be comfortable the way you are...and there are many places you can get swimsuits that are not designed for stick figures... However, if you are overly self-conscious (sp?) about your body wieght then do something about it...eat healthy filling meals, reduce your starches and sugar intake and exercise for at least 40mins each day. What you should not do is get over-stressed about it, cause that definitely won't help your situation. Just be happy with yourself and don't feel guilty about enjoying your food :)
Guest Magdalena
I'm tired of seeing girls worry about being too fat... Girls, especially my age, have no self esteem.
Guest dayday
I've seen a couple of weight threads so I decided to do this. Are you overweight or underweight? I'm a little overweight myself. I'm only 11 (12 in 2 more days YAY!) and I weigh 131. Not really average. Everyone keeps saying it'll go away in a few years. -_- Yeah right.

Jubei Yagyou
well the thing is how tall are you? If your short and that weight, I would think about exersizing (sp?) but if your tall, hmmm, no big deal I guess
Heaven's Cloud
Well I am just over 6 feet tall and weigh just under 200 lbs. Shinmaru
Heh, I'm 5'9 and weigh about 175 lbs. I have a bit of a belly, but that'll go away once I start getting active again (which I will once it starts to freaking cool down). I'm actually pretty healthy, so I don't have to worry about my weight too much.
