I might not have a HUGE grasp on the world, but I'm damn smart and know that this isn't real, nor will it be any time soon. And my parents have seen the warnings and everything.

I have to disagree with you a little bit Asuki. Fooly Cooly was aired late in the evening (I believe at eleven o'clock) and I don't know to many responsible parents that have children thirteen or younger that allow their children to stay up that late and watch television...especially when the programming is called AdultSwim. Too many parents leave parenting up to the school system and television these days...
The kids aren't necessarily staying up. They are setting their VCRs and recording it when their parents don't know. Then, they watch it when their parents aren't around. If their parents come in the room, they turn it off. Just look at the VanWagoners. They do it all the time. The youngest one of them is 10. So yes, there you have it.

You don't see ADULT swim stopping all of these kids. Which is my entire point.

I see your point, and i did that when i was around 9ish as well....starting taping the programs. The only thing is my parents realized what i was doing after a while, and just took the VCR away from me. So basically your right, there is absolutely no way Adult Swim can stop certain youngsters from watching there programs. One way or another, if a kid wants to see the shows that badly they'll find away around it. Its not the parents fault at all, like back in the day my parents would be in bed sleeping around 9 at night. So sometimes i would stay up and just sneak downstairs to watch T.V. when they would take the VCR away. Parents cant watch their children 24/7 so its basically whether or not a kid will be obedient towards their parents and not watch the programs. The only thing Adult Swim can basically do is have a warning for parental guidence which they already have anyway. That will save them from law suits such as these.

I still disagree. If a child is sneaking behind their parents back to watch a tv show, you can't blame the tv network or the parents, you can only blame the kid.

It is really no different then if two thirteen year olds are dropped off at a PG movie by their parents but sneak into an R-rated one instead. The movie did its job by giving the movie an R rating, much like Cartoon Network shows a disclaimer before adult swim starts. I guess it all falls back on the kids will be kids rule...when you are young you always think that you are mature enough to handle things that you really aren't...

And to whoever said kids think they're moore mature than they are, I know I'm not mature enough for some things, but I DO know that I'm mature enough to watch what is, when you bring it down to it's most basic concept, a mature cartoon.

MUST CONTROL RAGE!!!!

Fooly Cooly is a ******* animated program! IT'S NOT REAL!! If ADULT Swim gets removed because of her, you have my solemn promise that divine retrobution will be delivered.

If she doesn't want her kids watching things like that, WHY DOES SHE OWN A TV? Things like that are everywhere! There's more nudity in my high school locker room, but let's not get into that right now...

She's obviously one of those "if I don't like it, no one likes it, holier than thou" kinda people that should be slaughtered mercilessly...ooh..(Calm down, Jim)...

Anyway, I just don't see how people can get so bent outta shape over FAKE nudity. It's a smegging cartoon, people! You don't like it, CHANGE THE ******* CHANNEL!

I feel better now.

I'm confused. Is this lady complaining about FLCL being "wrongly" rated PG or not being rated R? Can someone hurry up and say this lawsuit is unconstitutional? That seems to be all the rage these days...

I once saw a story on the news about asenine lawsuits (it was not the only article/report/complaint/rant I've heard on the subject). Someone sued a subway company because she fell onto the tracks somehow. Another person sued McDonalds for making coffee too hot because she spilled the coffee on herself and got burned. Basically, if someone took a picture of you and you thought it made you look bad you could sue them for slander(sp?)!!
What angers me the most is the fact that some people will read this article or be informed about it and either think ALL anime is like FLCL, or even worse, say that the Japanese are bad people because they have "cartoons" like this circling about. The last thing I need is another person thinking I'm growing up wrong because I watch anime and read manga. In my opinion, anime is MOST CERTIANLY not the freaking devil!
I was watching FLCL (I think it was episode 3) one night and my dad was in the same room putting dishes away. He looked over at the TV and said it was "kinky" and that was all. I thought he didn't want me to watch it, so I changed the channel, but he said he didn't mean that I had to stop watching it.
And what about The Simpsons? I used to watch it, but now it seems to be all butt jokes. People run around butt-naked, cuss, are sometimes having sex (but they're under sheets and stuff like that), and get shot by mobsters (this isn't as bad as it probably sounds, but it's so easy to make it sound like an R movie). And this is on at 6:00 and 7:30 PM when the kids are obviously awake as opposed to 11 at night! Why don't they go sue that? Family Guy (which is also on Adult Swim, only earlier) isn't much different and is kind of worse in my opinion. Someone says how the teenage boy got caught with his hand down his pants and is told to keep it there for the rest of the week as punishment. The kid replies by saying "That was the best week of my life." And there's another episode whose plot (when made exteremely simple) is about the same kid having a "freakishly" big penis. Oh my god I said penis! How do I repent for my terrible act??? (sarcasm here...)

And scince when was sucking on a popsicle acting out oral sex?

EDIT: I fixed my horrible typos.

This lady is opinionated and moronic. She is showing only the depths of her own stupidity and ignorance when she rants on about a show never intended for kids in the first place.

We ghet that alot over here, only we don't get this "Fooly Cooly" We get only things like Yu Gi Oh, and Dragonball Z, so they attack those. Yu Gi Oh is excessively violent? fake illusions set by cards duelling each other is excessive? Watch Neon Genesis evangelion, then tell me that!

The way I see it, if it's on at 11 pm, it's on a show called Adult Swim, and has these warningsa on before the show, and you expect a show equivalent to screwby doo, then you're just plain making a fool out of yourselves. These so called moral crusaders should take note. -_-

Not all cartoons are for kids.
Adult Swim is, just that, A swimming pool for adults. :p
Check this out Here It's a follow up post to julie's. Read her getting chopped down for her blatantly ignorant rant. Most points already discussed here, but funny, non the less.

I'll also post a link to the letter i sent them if they publish it. I'm glad that someone wants to show her up for the hypocrite she is. :lecture:

That woman needs to get a life. She could be trying to end world hunger or cure AIDS, and instead..... she chooses to sue CN over a freaking cartoon?

There are many other causes she could have supported, all of them far more worthy than getting FLCL off the air, or whatever she's trying to accomplish in her lawsuit.

Frankly, a kid that's up at 12:30 could be watching much, much worse shows than FLCL. Just look at what's on HBO at that hour. I don't see what's so bad about my beloved FuriKuri.

That lady must be STUPID! Anyway, even though this really a compliment to FLCL, South Park isn't nearly as bad and it's rated TV-MA. Does anyone else find that dumb? I know these are 4th graders cussing their mouthes off, but that show still doesn't have as much bad content. Is that why it's not on anymore? Now, to get back on topic, I've seen much worse in movies like Spiderman, Blazing Saddles, and Spaceballs. Spiderman may not have any or much cussing, but the violence makes up for it. The other two just, sort of, have a little bit of suggestive content. Same with Josie and the Pussie Cats, which is rated PG.

uh...south park had little potty mouths!

anyway, i've been watch uncut dbz since i was four! ~sticks tongue out at person that watched it at eight~ it was in japanese, but the violence and nudity was there.
and in a lot of cartoons. espeically dexters lab^^
so why can some little boy show his but and not some alien chick?

there are many cartoons that would bring me to acts of violents, whil flcl...well, opposite acts, ya know, like love and hate~nosebleed~ -is that allowed? yeah, im fifteen, one year older than mentioned ~yays~

So? They bleep almost all of the cuss words out, and Kenny dies nearly every episode, but that's not my point. It could be rated TV-14 now that Kenny's gone for good. They also don't cuss as much anymore, but I don't think that they're animating anymore. *sob* *hugs South Park and Inuyasha plushies*

Yeah, and South Park is not aired on Cartoon Network. It is aired on Comedy Central, a TV station for ADULTS, not CHILDREN.
Oh come on, just get over that argument. Just because Cartoon Network had children in mind when it was created doesn't mean they don't have the right to show what they want. Not to mention the disclaimer and the late showing time. You are right...Cartoon Network can't stop kids from watching the shows, but neither can Comedy Central. It might be different if they were airing an uncut version of something on Toonami. The whole point of Adult Swim is to air shows that may be a little too much for children. In a Yu Yu Hakusho topic a long time ago, I seem to remember you talking about something similar. But you were talking about how the shows on AS were edited TOO much for the concept of Adult Swim.

...

In closing, parents can't stop kids from watching AS, but they can't keep them from doing much else either. If the parents really felt stongly about it, they should be responsible enough to keep it under control.

AH yes the old argument against too much violence on TV fear not young viewers when I was but a wee lad my parents did not want me to watch Hawaii 5 -0 and Barnaby Jones because people got shot and there was too much violence, but we did sit arouind the TV at dinner and watch reruns of Gunsmoke (The first american TV show to show some one being shot on TV) and I also have vague recollections of watching some Vietnam coverage on the evening news. Parents do what they think is right for their children, but manytimes the message is confusing. THis parent lets her children stay up late , in my judgement this is not a good thing, but she also monitors what her children watch ( this is a good thing) I see too many parents that don't pay attention to what their children do or even worse make excuses for or even support their bad behavior ( I one saw a mother attempting to show her child how to get "free toys from WALMART, - a little tip to a clerk stopped that escapade, but how many times is it not stopped). On channel one there was a report about an 18 year old who modified a computer virus and did severe damage to many people computers, Whan I posed the question about what should be done with him many students gave him almost heroic reverence instead of acknowledgement that what he did was a crime and may have cost people thousands or even millions of dollars..... before I go too far off topic This woman is trying to protect -in her eyes- her children. This is to be commended in this day and age, but.......she is also infringing on other peoples entertainment and pastimes to do it. What give here and for that matter people with children to supercede the rights of people not raising children. Just because she can't control what comes into her house buy setting a child lock on the TV or buy putting the little buggers to bed WHY should I have to pay the price of not being able to see my cartoons GIve me FLCL or give me death must we succum to the tyranny of the families with children ? Our society is so Victorian Prim and propper on the outside but full of deviaty and lust within. It is into this world that this woman is trying to raise her children. Shenhas everyright to bring the case to court, just as long as we don't have to pay for her moral cause.........I wonder if cable or direct TV rates will increase to pay for the defense against this lawsuit , but that is a topic for another rant
