Kare Kano: His and Her Circumstances

It's a production from director Hideaki Anno, the genius behind Neon Genesis Evangelion, and studio Gainax. No, it isn't another overtly complex and strange anime, but a series that focuses on comedy and teenage drama.

However, this series is slightly stronger than the generic Love Hina, and somewhat different in execution. The story follows the life of Yukino Miyazawa, a model student who loves her popularity. She is the "perfect" person in school, not only being the smartest, but also the prettiest, most athletic and charismatic student. Even so, her popularity and position as the #1 student seem to be taken away by a newcomer named Souichiro Arima, who seems to surpass her in every single field. The twist of the anime lies in that they both have different personalities when outside the school (well... Miyazawa more than Arima), and these two obviously clash as the story progresses.

You'll quickly notice that Gainax was behind this show. Inner monologues are common with the two main characters, and there are constant changes in animation and artwork, used for either comedic value, or heavy situations.

Even if you don't like the whole high-school drama genre, you shouldn't dismiss this one so soon. You'll see in the third episode that the series isn't all laughs and giggles, and that there are some interesting themes that Anno explores. Heck, Hideaki Anno made it. You shouldn't care what it's about, you should just check it out and be thankful that you're watching more of his work.

Oh yes! I love Kareshi Kanojo no jijou! XD I love it so very much. ^_^ This show is hilarious, but it's very in-depth and has a good fix on reality, actually. I have the first 2 DVDs, but I'm up to volume 9 in the manga. I actually read summaries of the show before I saw/read it, and I was hooked, then I read the manga, and I fell in love with the whole series. The characters are all loveable, and I love the innocent first romance. ^_^ I actually like the manga more than the anime, but the anime's good, too.

I dislike the way all the credit goes to Hideaki Anno for both Evangelion and this show... Y'know, Kare Kano was actually written by Masami Tsuda. She's the genius behind the story line. >.>

My favorite part in the anime would HAVE to be Hideki's sexy dance. Ah, that was so funny... lol. The way he feigns being gay and wanting Arima to himself. He's hilarious. ^_^;;

This show, like Cyke said, is a deffinite must-see. An instant classic! ^^ *Kare Kano Forever!* ::dances around:: Tokyopop licensed the manga now, too, so the first volume came out this month. ^^

I read part of the manga, and all I can say is the necks are too small and the heads are too big.. It's reslly hard to read because of that, I dunno, i can't stand it... Gaah!
I never noticed that, and I'm very picky about art. O.o Their faces look a bit flat when they're sideways, but I got over it... Never thought their heads were too big... >.> I'm insulted for Kare Kano. ;__;

I saw the 2nd DVD... I really like the story so far. How Yukino is developing with making friends and being with Arima.. In the begining I felt sorry for her.

Asaba is a freak, the whole thing in the 2nd dvd about him going to the pool with Yukino and his whole stripping thing was freaky...

Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
It's a great anime, pretty much it's a mature version of Love Hina without all the fan service. Many animes try to do the teenage high school essence but fail. However His and Her Circumstances improves where many animes directed at high school life fail at. Overall I'd certainly recommend it for a watch or rental.

I just watched episode 10. I laughed SO hard at the second half of it. Miyazawa finally draws the line and goes after the little brat like an awoken EVA.

The ending of the episode, on the other hand, was heartwarming and somewhat thoughtful in an educational-sort-of way. It shows that things usually end up ok if you're true to yourself and others.

*Gets all mushy*

I've seen 3 volumes and there is no doubt this is one of my top 5 anime. The second volume is so FUNNY! I was laughing so hard throughout all of most of the episodes and I still couldn't stop after it ended!

I just finished watching the first DVD of this series and I must say that I absolutely LOVED it! It was my kind of anime...High school kids, manipulating one another, falling in love...it was just SO addicting. So, I must ask, how many others have watched this series (or at least the first six episodes) and enjoyed it as much as me?

My favorite thing was the DOG! He was so cutesy. ^_^

I think there's already a thread about this, but oh well. ^o^ I watched the first episode, too, and I really liked it, even though I'm not exactly fond of animes always dealing with falling in love a lot.

I also have a soft spot for this genre of anime. I own the first 2 DVDs of Kare Kano, and I know for a fact that the 3rd volume has been out for a while (I can't find it at Best Buy, though.)

My favorite episode was the 10th in the 2nd DVD. I won't spoil it for you, but the second half of it made me fall off the couch in continuous laughter.

It's a pretty good show, and I like the GAINAX style of it that was so predominant in Evangelion.

Yes, there was another thread about this, but it died, so I decided to start a new one.

I really like Arima's character and personality. He seems so innocent and so focused and so beautiful...and everytime he smiles, my heart melts. I have no idea when I'll EVER get to see the second DVD because I only borrowed this one...but *sighs*

I wish I could be the graceful type like what's her face...(Why, oh WHY does her name leave me suddenly???)

Miyazawa? ^_^

Arima inspires me to study more. Kare Kano paints an attractive picture of how 'perfect' people should be like.

And how perfect people don't exist. Heh...

I was think another name...that comes from another anime series...that has totally left me at this moment.

I like Arima's friend, the one that is rivals with Miyazawa...he's VERY attractive. :toothy:
