[SIZE=1][COLOR=dodgerblue]I'm canadian. And I know that my american friends don't think any of those things. Not many people take those things seriously. But yeah, I'm canadian.And I rule. ^^;;

I don't know what your talking about with the peackeeping stuff, but anyone can be a peacekeeper, not just canadians(I think) and I'm not so sure many people actually think we live in igloos anymore. ~_^

Hmm...well, my thoughts on being Canadian...

We seem to be living on an island here. From what I hear, there are cases of Americans getting things mixed up about us. A girl in my high school wrote a speech based on a survey taken down in the states. It said things like most of Florida thinks Canada is a national park, and don't know what state it's in. I also watch Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans, which is basically the same thing. He goes down to the states and feeds people all kinds of lies to see how they react. However, some of those lies are actually based on stuff that happens here in Canada, after all, truth is stranger than fiction.

Let's see, I watch shows that make fun of both governments, I hear all kinds of peacekeeping talk from the news and the news satires. I watch a show about TV in Canada, which is unlike anything I've ever seen on TV before, and we try to express our individuality, in a way, by pretending to be what some Americans think us to be, people who live in a year round deep freeze and who wear funny hats for all occasions. Remember those weird Team Canada toques they had at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City? That's what I'm talking about.

The funny thing is, I happen to have a friend who is from the States, and he is one of the coolest, most knowledgeable (sp?) people I know. I never mean to insult the States by anything I say, but politics, specifically, political satire becomes commonplace in Canada. My American friend and I talk about stuff like this all the time, and poke fun at both countries. To quote my friend on what he thought of the States bombing Japan in WW2 and sending money later:

"That's what we do in the States, we bomb people and then say 'oops'."

I apologize if anyone is insulted, but that's the way my friends and I look at things.

I guess my view of Canada is..we all live in a screwed up world, and we take things in stride using comedy to appleal to the common Canadian citizen. Our government makes mistakes, and sometimes whe don't know what to think. I suppose a phrase to sum up Canada would be:

"Laughter is the best medicine."

I felt that I should also add this. It's true Canadians love to make jokes out of this. I remember a joke about first when a ship trys to enter the us they'd strip the ship down to try and find anything thats illigal but in canada the person that would search the ship would say. "attention approching vessel you are entering Canadian water..... Would you like a beer? Or my favorite one. "You know what would happen if canada suddenly decided to take over a country the other countries would say, Canada oh no they'd wouldn't do that. We could take over 5 countries before someone caught on." What's your favorite joke made towards canada?
