XC SpydeR
Who hates spiders? I hate em but i can put up with them. I mountain bike so i ride courses and sometimes pro courses. Well I rode one the other day and i hit about 15 bananna spiders!!!!! One of them hit me dead in the face, in fact it was the biggest bananna i have ever seen. Well anyway, it hit me in the face and I swiped at it, it then proceeded to fall to my neck. Yeah, talk about close call, I am so lucky that i didn't get bit!!! So who here has a spider story? :worried:
Charlie Levoy
I use to be terrified of spiders, but I learned to deal with it. Well one time when I was in Missouri visiting my grandmother I met face to.....umm....well I guess you can say face. Any way I came face to face with a wolf spider and this was when I was terrified of them. I was going to the to get my shoes and when I went out on to the patio there was a wolf spider standing in front of the door. I was so scared that I didn't want to move, but it was so cold that I forced my self to move. I jumped over the spider and went to the car. After getting my shoes I went back onto the patio. The spider was still there, but it had turned around and once again I was face to face with it. After a minute of neither me nor the spider moveing it rushed forward to attack me. I was so frightened that out of instinct I dropped to my knees and started smashing it with one of my shoes. It died after the 15th hit and it wasn't until then that I calmed down and started breathing normally.;)
Guest Crimson Spider
Be afraid! Mwha ha ha ha ha! Well, I've never had a fear of spiders. I don't see how. You see, in the desert, there aren't really any poisonous spiders. Well, the black widow, but even though it's poison is 100 times stronger than any rattlesnakes, it injects so little that it can't really harm a teen/adult. The Brown Recluse isn't truly a poison, but more of an acid which rots the skin in the area it bit. But I'm using the term incorrectly. "Poisonous" means that you have to injest it for it to be harmful. "Venomous" means that it is injected into you through other means, and is harmful that way. You dodged a bullet with those bananna spiders. Those things are actually more venomous than a black widow, but same neurotoxin. The main spiders to beware are the ones from the widow species, which include various widows, brown recluse, and bananna spider. But you don't really have to be that scared. These spiders are very mellow. They only bite when they think they "have" to. Basically, if a black widow were to land on your arm, it would run around and eventually fall off. But if it were to be stuck in your clothes, it would panic, realize that it is trapped, and bite the nearest organic thing. They also don't tend to wander too much. They like to stick close to their home. Even deadlier is the Wandering spiders. Their poison is very strong to even a full adult. Wandering spiders are so agressive it is rediculess. They can grow to be about the size of a small turantula. They are on-foot hunters. In fact, the deadliest spider on earth is the Brazilian Wandering Spider. Only in Brazile. Known to attack humans without fear. Most powerful venom in arguably the world. Large, and on-foot hunter. The second to most deadly spider is the Sydny Funnel web. Quite agressive, though not as much as the wanderer, second to most powerful poison, and fangs that can pierce bone. Remember, even though a turantula's bite is very painful, it is harmless. You could sit half asleep in a chair with the only movements are your breath, and heart beat, and a wanderer would just run up and bite you! They don't discriminate. Fly or foot, it's all the same to them.
Baron Samedi
I think spiders are just freaky. I have not had any bad experiences with them, but do you know daddy long-legs spiders? well they are highly toxic. A kid of one og my mums work colleagues got bitten by one, and had to have his leg amputated. the reason that you dont hear much about these, is because of the positioning of the mouth. it is situated in such a place that it is very difficult to get it to a place because the legs are in front, and so can only bite you on your ear, or between your toes or fingers.. Which is lucky.

Kevin
I used to be afraid of spiders, they scared the living bajesus out of me. Now, I think they are really dang cool. I like to find a random insect and throw it in to a spider web and watch how the spider subdues its prey. They are very cool and very cunning creatures. I have a little story about spiders, nothing to interesting really. So today I was at my friends house and we were outside jumping on his trampoline. Well, we got done jumping and decided to sit down. It is at that time that I noticed there was a spider web cleverly put on the table near the outside light. I got to thinking and started looking around for an easy insect to toss it in to the spider web. I put on a work glove and started scowering about when I came across a Daddy Long Legs. Even though it isn't a spider, it looks very much like one and I thought it would be pretty cool to see the spider duke it out with the DLL. So I grabbed it and tossed it in to the web. Sadly, the smaller spider seemed frightened of it and did not come out of it's little web cavern. I guess I will have to try again some other time. Semjaza
I'm not scared of them. I don't know why anyone would be. There are ants with more dangerous bites than spiders. I always wanted a pet tarantula. Now that my scorpion, Pinchy, is gone... I guess I can get one.

Meteora
I hate spiders. They give the chills. I used to be, so afraid of them that if I saw one I would run. Lately I have been able to walk up to them, and kill them. I'm happy. The one thing that grossed me out was the fact that one of my friends can play with Black Widows, and not be afraid. He has never gotten bit either.*knocks on wood*

Queen Asuka
Okay well...I like to look at them SOMETIMES. But as many bad experiences as I've had with them...*Shudders* I had a HUGE one land on top of my head when I was in the shower not too long ago during the summer. Talk about a heart attack. And I also killed one in my shower one of the first days I was here in Athens. But they are cute to look at if they are no where near me. I seriously have always wanted a pet tarantula, though. I got to hold one once and they are so soft and PRETTY. That's the only exception.

Zephyr
I used to be afraid of spiders, but the fear passed a few years ago. I guess nature got tired of using me as a joke and finally got rid of my phobia. I still jump a bit when I see them crawling on a wall, but that is just because it is usually dark, and they appear from nowhere. Being as I live in an unicoperated area of town there is a lot of woodlands, and thus a lot of spiders. During the winter they tend to get inside my room, which ticks me off. There is one simple rule that my father thought up about spiders/bugs in the house. "If they are outside they are fine. If they are inside and we see them, they're dead." :D
Fyxe
I don't really mind spiders that much. The only thing that bothers me is when they're on me. I don't like their bits either... they really itch. Our house always has a ton of spiders, but the useful thing about them is that they rid of all the other bugs in our house. If the spiders bother our cats, or the cats see the spiders, then our cats chase them, then kill 'em, and then eats 'em. We call our cats the big spiders that eat spiders... I made it up when I was little. But otherwise, spiders don't freak me out or scare me and I don't hate them.
Guest Milly Star
I've been bitten by spiders before. I think I was bitten by a Wolf Spider, I had this huge bite on my foot with two puncture wounds about a half inch apart. I'm not really afraid of spiders any more. When I was little I was terrified of spiders but I got over that after a while. Now scorpions are another story...
Matto Tradagen
I'm really not bothered by spiders. We get many of them in the summer months, hanging in webs strung pretty well all over the outside walls of my house. The reason I don't fear them, is because where I am, there is no poisonous or relatively harmful spiders. My father got bitten a while ago, and the worst of it was itching and swelling. We have a serious lack of anything dangerous out here.. The only thing I really don't like it walking through a web. They're sticky, a pain to get out of your hair, especially if it's long like mine, and they're often full of dead flies. Really not very pleasent. ~Matto

If i'm wrong, i'd love to learn something new. I guess I could dig up some references too if need be.
Let me rephrase it. The second to most Venomous spider is the syndy funnel web. Otherwise the Discovery channel is mostly right. Then again, they change their views many times. I've heard different shows say completely different things. One show said that dopamene (sp?) was used as a pleasure center in the brain, and nothing else. And yet another said that it was a lubricant for the brains operations. The second one actually had proof to back it up. Most people don't even know that the Brazilian Wandering Spider even exists! O.K. The reason why they say the Funnel web is the deadliest is because it is large, tough, and aggresive. You see, a funnel web, although not as aggresive as the wanderers, does not run from humans. They will not just run up and bite, but they will defend themselves if they feel threatened. Along with fangs that can pierce through bone, the very powerful poison infects the lungs first, meaning that unless you recognize the spider pratically the instant that it bites you, you'll drown in your own fluids in about an 2 hours. Within the hour if a child, or elderly. Also, the sydny funnel web is a lot more common than the wanderer. Meaning that it can bite more, because there IS more. Now, I got the information that the wanderer has the most powerful poison and is very aggressive from a couple of books. Not off of internet and TV, which are a lot less reliable. I also read these books years ago, and have not seen them in quite a while. That being said, I Think that the Wanderer of Brazile actually has a different type of poison. The funnel web has a bit of a muscle lock-up, which causes your lungs to overflow and quit working because your diaphram stops. Now, the most common type of poison for any wandering spider is the ever-deadly neurotoxin, which infects the brain itself. While not as fast-acting as a muscle poison, it is more deadly because it results in permanent damage due to he fact that it injects so much poison in each bite. Now, if you were to be bitten by the Brazilian Wandering Spider, and went without treatment, the posion would go strait to your brain in about the same time that the funnel webs poison would affect your lungs and heart. Now it begins to inflict damage upon the occipital lobe first. So your vision begins to burn, blur, and eventually you pass out. Then the poison effects the rest of your brain, eating away at it. You then are probably dead by now. Your body will begin to spasm because the neurons in your brain go hyperactive because of the poison and cause you to shake while in a coma, or dead. The signals from your brain stem will cease, causing your heart and lungs to stop simultaniously. Now, if you were to recieve treatment, you would be damaged depedning on how far the poison goes. You could recieve something so like as a weakened immune system, or permanent severe brain damage. But no matter how soon after you get treatment, you will suffer some damage. While with a muscle-poison. Not nerve, mind you, but muscle poisons are temporary. If they don't work, they wear off, and your body disposes of them as it would anything else. Even though the Wanderer is more aggresive than the funnel web, it simply cannot bite you as easily. It's fangs are not as strong. It also takes a little while longer for it to get a bite in. And since it isn't a stick to home, or crawl in dark spider, most people can see it and just smash it with a shoe. It's carapace isn't as strong, so it is easier for it to get hurt and die. So the most deadly is funnel web, but the Brazilian Wanderer gets the prize for most powerful poison. EDIT: That eight spiders thing actually means a collective amount of particles from spiders. Not the spiders themselves.

Noirrac
I'm a little afraid of spiders... We have lots of those daddy long legs things in our house and I love to pick them up and have them crawl all over me (it tickles!). When I was like 4 years old I would go outside and look at these little brown and black ones that moved so fast it was like they teleported! But recently I had a strange experience with a spider. Dad was away in Europe and I had to water his plants. I filled the watering can and tried to pour it on the plants but... only the smallest little drops came out. I stuck my finger in the spout, sloshe water around in it, and finally banged it against the sink over and over and over. Still, it didn't work. I held the watering can by its spout and looked inside. Suddenly, a fat, yellow spider crawled out and onto my hand. I had never seen a spider like that before and I was surprised that something ALIVE was in the can, so I dropped it and screamed... I felt really bad after that because I felt like a wuss and I think I hurt the spider. I actually pride myself on not being "sissy" and "girly." Once all the kids in my class were freaking out because there was a dead roach on the floor. I just picked it up and put it on some girl's desk. She shot our of her seat and screamed "AIEEEEEEEEE! EWW EWW EWW!" Ha ha ha! Wuss!
