Luminaire
^____^ Thank you guys and gals for the advice! I'm gonna try to start it. Today at lunch I got 13 people to sign for the idea of the club. My mum said maybe if I can't find a teacher and I had the people, I could possibly ask the office to send a bulletine through the school to find someone willing. Asian Apprecitation and learning about other cultures and maybe some Japanese too, seems to be the best reasons for why the board would give permission. Sadly, Molleta, considering the number of kids in the school and how would join from just my lunch, I don't think meeting at someone's house would work. I thought about that too. I am moving to a smaller house in october, and the basement I currently have would be great for the club, but my mum would strangle me if I tried it. Basement in the new house is uber small. v_v A good thing though is that out of the 13 people that signed, only 2 people don't own any anime. And, students from all four grade levels were interested. I think this might actually work! ^_^ ~Lumi ^_^
Tix
Wow! In our school we have an Anime Club too. We meet 2 days per week and we can watch anime, read mangas and chat with other anime fans of the school. Pretty cool our first meeting of the year will be this Friday....I'm so excited!:D

The Battosai
The one flaw with our anime club, is that they only have meetings for 1 hour every OTHER week! That really sucks. At least its there at all. And some of the people there are...meh
Jeebs
I just went to the anime club at my school the other day. It's only on Thursdays and only about an hour long. We watched 2 episodes of an anime called Please Teacher. It's kind of annoying having to read sub-titles. (I'm a slow reader) Next week we're watching 2 episodes of X the TV series. future girl
I just recently started going to an anime club in FIU (Florida International University). The meeting are every Thursday from 7 to 11 pm or 8 to 12 pm. It's kinda hard to get there because I have to convince my mom. The name of the club is Anything Goes Anime (AGA) and it's pretty cool. It's a nice environment, friendly, you meet new ppl, very cool, plus they only watch anime that isn't available mainstream so I get to see some cool new stuff that I would otherwise not be able to get my hands on. I knew the girl that was gonna get the anime club in our high school started, she had all the stuff ready and the papers signed and them some kid lost 'em all.
Jim_Hawking
Actually, I'm going to see about starting an anime club at my high school. Once, I gather enough for the "core" group to decide the name and all that, we are going to approach our principal with our idea. Once we get everything set up, I'll post more about it, besides, we have a 5 member Radio club here at EPCHS (East Peoria Community High School) we're going to have more than that after 15 minutes. Wish me luck.
Ani_Freak
Man, I would give anything if there was an ANIME club in my school, or even at college. I don't know anyone here that likes anime so, I guess I feel a little alone in that sense. Anyway, I think it's great!!!
Luminaire
>sighs< I attempted going to the Social Studies advisor and talking, but he says he doesn't see the educational benefits the club may have. I have to arrange a meeting with him after school one day to show him some sites and explain where education comes in. Or, I can take it to the Art advisor and try that. Any one have any educational benefits of anime? I may show the advisor this thread, so it would be very helpful if someone could put something up. You can use shows as an example. Thank! ^_~ ~Lumi ^_^
Zephyr
How about telling your Soc. advisor about the cross-cultural values in anime. A lot of anime has info about the past of Japan. I think that Rurouni Kenshin is close to historically accurate in the background story of the Meiji Revolution. Others, like Grave Of the Fireflies, shows the darker side of WWII's effect on Japan (it is very drepressive, though). Then there are some like .Hack//Liminality (vol. 3) that have information on some of Japan's regional mythology. Just a start, but hope it can help. Stick Fairy
I'm techincally a secret anime fan, but there is an anime club in my school. Not a great one, but it's more than lots of people have. My only problem: ho do I go without people discovering my secret? My two new otaku friends at school suggest I wear a paper bag ovr my head, but I doubt it'll happen. I suppose I'll find an excuse to go IF they're gonna show anything I haven't seen that I want to. JazzLady22
:bawl: You are so lucky. We're still struggling to get one at my school, "Because people like it" just isn't enough of an excuse for them. Sigh. We're trying to convince them it's an Art form, since I go to and Arts school, but I don't think they bought that. We have a sponsor, why does it matter? *smacks After School Activities Director*
Syk3
Sorry to bring back a slightly old topic, heh, but I just wanted to share what's been happening with my anime club so far. Well, we finally got a sponsor, and it looks like he's going to stick with us for the rest of the year. He's not much of a fan of anime, in fact, he thinks it's all about cartoon porn or something, but at least we found someone, and he was literally the last on the list. This year, we'll finally be able to make it into an official club, yay! We had the teacher talk to the principal and everything was worked out, we made an official time and place for the club, we had the teacher work it out for the media center to let us pick up a TV on a cart every meeting, the president is making posters to put up around the school, and we came up with an amazing "mission statement" that may help a few of you out: Animé club allows students the opportunity to explore contemporary and traditional Japanese culture through the art form of modern Japanese animation. With it's unique artistic style and storytelling heavily influenced by Asian culture, animé is a form of entertainment encompassing all possible film genres and viewer demographics. Other than that, all we need to do is send letters home to the parents of people who go to the club, saying something about how the school does not pre-view these cartoons to check it for content, and they won't be monitering, so it will make sure the parents understand the possibilty of mature content. I'm not sure if we're writing that or the principle is, I'm just trying to do anything to make this club official, heh. We'll hopefully even have announcements. CharmedImmortal
I had a fieldtrip in some High School In Los Angeles, which was a very kool high school that I have been to. They have clubs, and they have an Anime Club in there too! It was kool and something tells me that I should go to that high school next year, because of that club. But then the school is too far away from my house. So, too bad for me, but hoping that there would be an Anime Club in which High school I'm going next year. ^_^

Xellos
The highschool here almost had an anime class (I'm guessing it would have been like an art class, but I'm not sure), but they decided in the end not that many people would sign up for the class. When my friend told me that I could have just sat down and cried. (well, not quite, but pretty close)
