eleanor
If you think about it, all or most of Disney's classics are solely based on fairy tales, legends, and other short stories that were created a long time ago. The only famous Disney movie [made a relatively long time ago] I can think of that wasn't based off of a story is The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Sleeping Beauty. I'm not sure about Sleeping Beauty, really. I forgot, Bambi as well. =_= Ok, so that's 4 movies. The characters in those four movies were liked by many children, so I'm guessing Disney ability to create good characters isn't as good as today. Walt Disney himself is one person I really admire, though. Um...I don't think there was a point to this post.
Semjaza
Sleeping Beauty and the Little Mermaid are both fairy tales. I believe Little Mermaid was written by Hans Christian Andersen, actually. It was quite a bit more violent and morbid than the Disney version. Bambi was also based on a book by an Australian writer. Most everything Disney has made has been based on an existing tale. The Lion King is arguably based on Kimba, which is an anime most people seem to have forgotten. There were whole debates over that a few years back. The Simpsons even made a jab at it. I don't think the Emperor's New Groove was really based on anything. Fantasia wasn't really either. They kind of just went where they wanted with the music. Lilo and Stitch was created by some guy already working at Disney, I believe, so that's "original". There are a few of them, but most animated films from any company are based on existing stories.
Queen Asuka
I have the original fairy tale version of Sleeping Beauty, but I want to read the one of the Little Mermaid. I love the morbidness of fairy tales. *Huggles her huge book of fairy tales that is older than she is*
James
Originally posted by Queen Asuka Although, I didn't like the style of Lilo and Stitch. I haven't seen it yet because the characters just aren't cute and attractive. Maybe it's just me and I'm insane like that...
Well, Lilo & Stitch is a beautiful looking movie in my opinion. The characters have a certain charm to them...and I remember watching a few scenes from the movie on DVD (I haven't seen the entire thing), and I noticed how natural and attractive many of the landscapes were. I'm guessing that heavy computer use was involved, but it worked. It looked very natural and serene. Everything was very colourful. I just remember being quite impressed by Lilo & Stitch's artwork. Rockstar Haruko
I totally miss the songs! I know all the songs from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Lion King, all of them! They probably would've has some good songs in these more recent movies if they had just made them! Don't get me wrong though, I loved Treasure Planet and Lilo&Stitch. I really loved the music in Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. It seems that Fantasia 2000 was the last of Musical Disney. Boohoo!!
